    Acer Aspire 3810 modded BIOS:
MOD1: (new fan table, advanced and power, full access, slic, intel/ati/both options): BIOS_Acer_3810_1.28_patch.rar

MOD2: (new fan table, advanced and power menu, access level option, no slic, discrete/integrated in SG, logo, min brightness on intel is 3% instead of 10%): jm31_128_logo_t3.fd

I have re-uploaded the modded BIOS and in exchange I ask you to give me RWEverything ACPI dump file. I want to use those files to modify BIOS on 3820TG.

UPDATE: ACPI dump is no longer needed.

    1. Download RWEverything
    2. Unpack/Install.
    3. Run RWEverything on original BIOS. Save ACPI dump. (Press 1 then 2)
    4. Flash to modified BIOS and do Step 3 again.
    5. Upload two files and share link.

    Thanks.

    Hi all,

first of all, thank you very much for the quick reply and the upload, prikolchik.

To be on the save side, i have to ask you some things - your first link, though named "...BIOS_Acer_3810_1.28_patch.rar", leads to a download of a file named "Acer_1.28_Bios_Modded_8371.zip".
Is this really the equivalent file that i need for my 3810 T (I should have mentioned that in the first post, of course) model, or is it probably a mixup of any kind? Please understand, i am afraid of bricking my machine here...
Is this whole modded bios thing probably just valid for the 3810 TG models (restricted to those with the additional ATI gfx accelerator) or does it make no difference at all?
And what is this slic thing exactly, do i need it regularly?

And to your request concerning the ACPI dump - i assume, that the above mentioned application needs a running Windows installation, right? Unless i am wrong, i fear i cannot help you (and somehow compensate for your efforts), because i got rid of it as soon as possible and replaced it with Linux. Sorry, man. If there is a Linux equivalent, just let me know.

    Cheers and thanks again,
    Nix

    Hi Nixblicker,

Please check files again. They must be accessible now

    Thank you
    --------------------
    prikolchik,

ACPI tables don't contain any major changes. I just changed min brightness for intel gpu mode

I have compared BIOSes for 3810TG/T/TZ from Acer site and they are identical. You can flash this BIOS on your 3810T.
Short answer: A special table in the BIOS that is used for OEM Windows activation. Don't worry about it. Long answer: You can find some information here and try google.
Yes, it is a Windows-only program and I don't use Windows myself either. Ubuntu FTW.

The reason I asked for ACPI dump (DSDT, SSDT, RSDT and other tables saved to text file) is because I wanted to compare original-DSDT with modded-DSDT to see the changes. I would then (possibly) port those mods to 3820TG. However, since advan20092 mentioned that there were no major changes done to DSDT table, I no longer need ACPI dump.

Just for your information, you can extract DSDT table on Linux via " sudo cat /proc/acpi/dsdt > somefile.aml". Then you can decompile this ASL binary file into DSL code with " iasl -d somefile.aml" which will give you a file somefile.dsl.

Good luck with flashing modded BIOS!
OK. Thanks for letting me know! This saves me lots of time...

On a side note, could you make a small guide for modding 3810 BIOS? It would be interesting to see what you changed in the BIOS.

    All,
Don't flash 8371 BIOS on 3810T/TG/TGZ or you completely brick the Laptop

prikolchik, the thing is that 3820 has Phoenix Bios and 3810 has Insyde one. You can find a lot of info about modding in my posts on forum.ixbt.com

I know it is a different type of BIOS  I have other laptops that have Insyde BIOS.

Links to actual threads where you describe how the mod was done would be nice. I have looked and didn't find it on forum.ixbt.com

Have you tried modding 3820 BIOS? (I know about 0x1h menu). I have gven it a try and managed to mod the brightness levels on 3820. Before: 10-100. Modded: 1,2,4,6,8,10-100 both on Intel and ATI.

    Hi Advan20092,

Do you think its possible to provide a Version like this:
file2 - version I'm currently using (new fan table, advanced and power menu, access level option, no slic, discrete/integrated in SG, logo, min brightness on intel is 3% instead of 10%): ftp://ad1ced.ru/shared/jm31_128_logo_t3.fd and checksum: ftp://ad1ced.ru/shared/jm31_128_logo_t3.md5

Without any boot logo and with switchable graphics??

    That would be great!

    Thanks

I have flashed my 3810TZ with the modded BIOS (BIOS_Acer_3810_1.28_patch.rar) but the fan is running always anyway. I checked the BIOS and the settings is 65C for fan to start but it's always on while temperature is only around 40C. Is there something else I must change in the BIOS?

Hello, I have a similar problem after flashing of my 3410T. BIOS is enhanced now, but fan is furious as before :)
I see comment here ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/391646-acer-aspire-timeline-owners-lounge-202.html#post6955205) from advan and he wrote that "Yes, fan table is hardcoded - it is fixed array of numbers, so it can't be changed in power menu."
I also think that morning will be better after flashing.
But anyway - thanks a lot for good work of authors of flash.
    Good luck.

Hi I have the same issue.
I flashed the same BIOS on my 3810T and the fan is always on.
Does anyone have a solution for this.
I read some posts before, that their laptops are silent now.
Please tell me, if there are any options in the BIOS menu that can change this.

    by the way:
is it possible to save a bios file with insydeflash, before updating it?
if the fan issue can't be fixed, i would like to go back to v1.07. which is currently running on a friends 3810tg.
Or does anyone have a file from v1.07? it is not on the acer website.

I soldered the keyboard led-power cable to USB pins on the motherboard and it works great.
I do NOT advise any motherboard solder mod unless you know someone who know what he's doing and have decent solder skills, because it isn't that hard to fry the board x)

I used copper wires to bridge the USB-cable connection btw

For those of you with a black screen of death on a 3810T or similar laptop, I highly recommend the replacement bios from biosdepot on eBay. It works!

Several months back, my 3810T decided it did not want to post anymore. Tried the Acer Aspire One USB recovery trick many, many times on different USB ports using different USB sticks and it does not work, so I assume it does not work on the Timeline. Screen LED would sometimes light up, but no output via the VGA port, so I figured the BIOS or board was toast. Since boards don't generally just die, it was probably a corrupted BIOS. Tried replacing the screen anyway, because my screen was previously starting to go out, but did not fix the issue.

    Steps to replace:
    1. Buy replacement BIOS from biosdepot on eBay or another source
    2. Dismantle laptop using this guideline.
    3. Bios chip is on the underside of the motherboard under a piece of black tape. On page 53 of the .pdf, you can see the CMOS battery in blue at the bottom. BIOS chip is just outside of the picture at the bottom right.
    4. Remove tape and note the orientation of the BIOS chip. Write this down or take a picture. There is an indentation at one corner.
    5. Gently pry underneath BIOS chip and off board with a screwdriver
    6. Solder new bios chip back in place in the same orientation. I used a 40w soldering iron with a fine tip and held each pin in place until the existing solder reflowed over each pin.
    7. Reassemble board and cross your fingers!

As an alternative, you can try pulling the wire that connects the CMOS battery to the board and leaving it unplugged overnight to clear the BIOS. This may or may not work.

There were also two buttons on the board that may have been CMOS reset buttons. However, I believe one was for power and the other was on the VGA port, so I am unsure of the function.

Also, on another Acer laptop, someone said bridging the G1 - G2 contact points would also clear the CMOS. I found two contact points near the BIOS that might function this way.

Since I already bought the BIOS chip, I did not bother with any of these alternatives.

OK, 3810TGZ with a rather odd problem.

I've updated the modded 1.28 bios - it works fine. except...

when I turn on the laptop, or resume from sleep it gets to the "press f2 to enter bios" screen and then no further. If I control-alt-del it gets stuck at the same place a few times, then the next time books to windows fine.

Some times it gets stuck on the "press f2 to enter bios", sometimes it just gives me a cursor at the top of a black screen. It always eventually boots - after three or four "cont/alt/dels".

I've restored the official bios, and it works perfectly again. I donloaded the modded bios again, and reinstalled it - and once again it won't boot windows the first few times.

Its more of an annoyance than a total disaster - but does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it?

I've not made any changes to the bios btw.

    Thanks!

Profet, this may not help with your problem but wanted to post this for everyone else that owns an Acer Aspire 3810 / 4810 with random freeze. I have an Acer Aspire 4810TZ and was getting random freezes for no apparent reason. I clean installed the OS, updated all drivers, and didn't install any other software and it would still freeze. Friend of mine told me to take out the additional stick of memory and that seems to have fixed the problem for good. Now makes me think it is a problem with the motherboard. Hope someone finds this post helpful.

I had a microSD to SD adaptor with ~no microSD card in it - but taking that out has fixed the problem - weird!

    Anyhow, thanks for the tip!

OK, since we are on a roll, another problem...

When my 3810tgz wakes from sleep the USB ports don't work - device manager says the controllers cannot start. If I disable and re-enable them again they work. Any ideas?

If you happen to encounter a bad BIOS/EFI flash do the following:

    Put flas(no space)hit.exe (DOS) on a Thumbdrive
Rename the BIOS/EFI Image file to JM31X64.fd this is for 3810t: replace with your unit's bios .fd file) and put it in the thumbdrive as well
Plug in the thumbdrive to the powered down machine
Press and hold 3 buttons Fn + Esc + Power Button (With AC Adapter + Battery plugged in)
Release when it reads the thumbdrive.
After a while you should hear fan spinning furiously after it is done it should boot fine
All the above will work provided you didn't screw up the bootblock.

gollum if any trouble just write me and send me your email address; i can send you the whole bios recovery fileset. mine is for 3810t timeline. you should just need to change the bios file by extracting the .fd file from your unit's latest bios update.

I have the acer 3810TZ and having the same problem.

Installed the modded Bios, but still the fan is very noisy and doesn't calm down at low temperatures.

Is there anything else I can do? I can see the settings in the bios, and set the temperature to 70, but nothing happens.

Do I have to change some other settings, or is there any other solution?

    thnx, for your help!

i just installed a travelmate 8371 matte keyboard from ebay ($10+$10 shipping) on my 3810tg

it fits perfectly, the keys are larger and they don't catch fingerprints like the old glossy 3810 one

i've looked around, and found out that the palmrest/top cover from 8371 can also be fitted to the 3810 (possibly the bottom one, too)

and i saw a post about installing the matte screen from the travelmate - it is indeed possible. the two laptops are practically the same, but with a different shell

Could someone tell me please if these modded BIOSs will function on a 5810TG?

Also Acer support downloads has a BIOS patch (v1.35) and a Special edition (v2.35). Is there anything useful in these?

The thread isnt hot anymore but the laptop still pleases me very much. Only thing i dislike is teh 4500mhd, i need something faster.
I am thinking of replacing the mainboard of my 3810T with the 3810TG board so i can use the HD4330 gpu. This GPU will be enough for me but i dont know if it will fit properly.

So is there someone here who likes to open these laptops, and knows if the new board will fit? Or any ideas about it.

Does anyone know / made a BIOS MOD for the 5810TG, that supports the selection between: INTEL and ATI graphic card?

The original BIOS only supports ATI or BOTH :-\

I really need to upgrade to Windows 8, and don't want to be stuck to old drivers with switchable support. Just want to decide when to use one or the other, and don't mind to select that in the BIOS.

I have a MOD that gives all the hidden features (INTEL menu), but this mod does not change the graphic card selection menu.

I am trying to keep power to usb when on sleep mode. Currently I can not wake up the laptop from sleep mode from an external keyboard or mouse. Only works using the laptop's keyboard and mouse. I have tried every conceivable suggestion.
I loaded the modded BIOS for acer 3810TZ however I dont see anything that resembles enabling this (USB not called out anywhere)
Is there another BIOS that may allow this?
    Thanks
