It is now. Features of customized 1.28 BIOS:
    1. New fan table - laptop becomes very silent.
    2. Unlocked 'Advanced' and 'Power' BIOS menus.
    3. Unlocked 'Access level' in 'Security' menu. Select 'Full' to view all hidden settings.
    4. Discrete/Integrated switchable graphics options

Excellent! Actually, are the new settings relevant for "standard use" as I don't quite understand which options are on top of the standard ones available.
Also, is the fan speed not adjustable in the BIOS or is it fixed??
The SSD extension sounds really great but I am a bit worried I might ruin my NB so will wait for a more detailed instruction if someone succeeds in doing so.

    great work!

I'm close to giving up..... My 3rd battery just died on me today. That's 3x in 1 1/2 yrs. At 1st I thought it was my Win7 install, 2nd I thought it was due to the BIOS I did since it died right after I updated to 1.27.... Earlier today, when I was editing something in photoshop, again it suddenly dies for no reason. About 40+% battery left. Now it won't turn on if unplugged. And if plugged in a not charging message is displayed. I'm at wits end, I love this thing but this is ridiculous. Ordered another battery on ebay, and I'll probably sell this really cheap.

    Hi,

I've been thinking about buying the acer aspire timeline 4810TZG for some time and i just want to ask a few questions.

I read a review saying that the sims 3 runs on this laptop, but i notice that the requirements for the game say that you need 2.4GHz processor speed, the 4810TZG only has 1.3 GHz, although it is dual core. Will the game run?

Also, on this thread, people are mentioning "switchable graphics", does this mean that i can replace the graphics card on this laptop?

    Thanks. :)

It mean the notebook has two GPU, integrated and dedicated, you can toggle to switch between those two...

The 4810TZG has the built-in Intel and the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 to switch between.

The new BIOS for the 3810 is GREAT!!! Now it is absolutely silent!! Amazing!
However, if I switch to INTEL ONLY, my Windows keeps asking me that my Activation is not valid any more so switched back to SWITCHABLE cause I don't want to call the guys from M$ and maybe lose my license for the SWITCHABLE Mode, but this kinda sucks (I know its Microsoft), but would be interesting to know what to do about it. Any thoughts?

I've found just a day before advan's post the 1.28 modded version on "The Russian Forum" ans supposed it was his as they coindiced for the date. I don't find the link right now but it is on the Aspire FAQ Thread at the very end.
Sorry for not giving any credits here but my russian is too bad so dunno who patched it in the end.

I have the same problem with the battery too. I got someone to fix it for me. It is not the battery, there is something wrong with the bios. My guy just updated the bios and it start charging the battery again. He told me this is a very common problem with Acer Aspire Timeline.

    Here are links for download:
file1 (new fan table, advanced and power, full access, slic, intel/ati/both options): BIOS_Acer_3810_1.28_patch.rar ? RGhost ? file sharing.

file2 - version I'm currently using (new fan table, advanced and power menu, access level option, no slic, discrete/integrated in SG, logo, min brightness on intel is 3% instead of 10%): ftp://ad1ced.ru/shared/jm31_128_logo_t3.fd and checksum: ftp://ad1ced.ru/shared/jm31_128_logo_t3.md5

These files were published on forum.ixbt.com by mask89 and advan (It's my nickname there).

    UPD:
SU9400 users will be able to overclock CPU by approx 13%. Just disable P-States in Power menu and use Throttlestop to set CPU multiplier at x8 as described here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...ida-both-cores-core-2-duo-15.html#post6646598

Hi Avansys, you rock!! Great job!
I like the 3% Brightness Option for VGA Mode, never thought this would be possible! Any chance it works also in the VGA mode or in the other version, cause I like the INTEL ONLY Setting?

And just one question, there is this option with two threshold temperatures at 70 and 85 degrees. But apparently, at least at my 3810, it does not change anything of the fan behaviour, so the fan table is "hard-wirde" in the bios I suppose??
Great Bios for noise-damaged 3810 owners!!!

    joemmi,
I renamed 'intel only' to 'integrated' in last version. What do you mean 'VGA mode'? It is possible to decrease min brightness for ATI card also but I don't see any reason for this mod.

Yes, fan table is hardcoded - it is fixed array of numbers, so it can't be changed in power menu.

    Hi,

Ah, I though Integrated was the "original" Switchable Mode. So basically in your version, you can select either the ATI or Intel in Bios and NOT have the switchable mode?
(IIRC in the other version the options are VGA only (this is what I meant, maybe it is INTEL ONLY??), ATI only and SWITCHABLE). Sorry for the confusion.
Will have to find out if I can get around the new activation of my Windows each time I switch in the BIOS, this M$ is really annoying...

Correct. This is version I'm using myself. I prefer to make minimal changes in original bios modules. As I don't use 'switchable' mode I just replaced it with 'integrated' one (Intel Only)

Regarding activation. When you switch graphics first time the system re-enumerates all devices. This cause reinstalling drivers, and in some cases activation problem. After you resolve this there will be no further problem with switchable graphics.

Not really using the original Bios network boot was possible.
But the modified BIOS seems to yield better performance (or it is just me) the only issue was that network boot disappeared.

Hi, great work this modded BIOS!!!

It runs fine on my 3810TG. I use the version with switchable graphics option and this works well too.

The fan is almost not noticable and it even keeps running on low mode if one CPU core is permanently used at 100%. However, the bottom of the lap can get quite warm, especially if ATI GPU is used additionally. For the hardware it is not so much of a problem I think as it doesn't go much higher than 70°C but for me it can get a bit too hot :)

    Nevertheless, I prefer silence!

    Hey Guys!
I have Flashed the modded Bios of the Acer timeline 3810 already and it works perfectly. But another guy have the acer version without the ATI 4330. He flashed it and it worked fine for him too. But after a reboot the screen was black and nothing happend.

How can we solved this problem? And what is the cause of the trouble?

Just wanna say thanks again advan! It's been so long since I've checked these forums and whaddaya know - a new BIOS! And just in time too - I was using 1.27 and my battery suddenly stopped working.

The Acer service center just updated the BIOS to 1.28 and it worked again. And with your modded BIOS I've got back the Intel-only graphics option.

    Hello,

I have flashed my acer 3810TG with this mod bios (V1.28) and after i made some changes in BIOS and saved them, the laptop wont boot. (No video, only the power button light up and if you want to power it off you have to disconnect the battery).

    Please help!

IT WORK'S NOW! Emergency BIOS recovery helped me!!!

Now to ask the real question (this was the primary motive that i flashed my BIOS):

The laptop does not sleep. (It sleeps for 2-4 sec and it wakes up.)
    Tried everything:
    - disable all devices - no success
    - update windows - no success
    - change power management - no success
    - disabled all wakeup triggers - no success
    - updated bios - no success
    - tried another HDD - no success

If anybody can help me I will appreciate it!

    Thanks

Maybe you should trace your system in some way. You can try Windows Performance Toolkit - it shows software and hardware events occurred during boot.

Free slot is for 3G modem so you do not have it installed

    Hi dear all,

I have a bricked 5810TG / SU3500. I know bios recovery doesn't help:recovery procedure shuts down the computer after a couple of seconds, then it automatically restarts.
I think I need to wire to the bios chip. I expect chip to be the same as 5810T/4810T/4810TG and maybe 3810, but I could be wrong though...

So before I attempt to open the laptop, I'd like to know if anyone knows which bios chip should be inside. I've googled quite a bit but could find the answer. Maybe somebody here knows... It would be very helpful to forecast if i could do something about it or not. Seems doable if it's SPI, more complicated if parallel or FWH.

    Thanks for your attention.

I purchased an Acer Travelmate 8371 in November but I've been having a few black screen issues.
Now I know that when switching between Ati & Intel GPU it goes black for a few seconds which is fine, but occasionally it goes black when booting up, I'm not sure if its linked to me plugging in a USB device (Three USB Modem or Flash Drive) as it seems to happen more when I do that, the problem is it goes black and nothing but a restart will sort it.

Its a bit annoying and I just hope its not broken. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues.

    Hy Advan,

I have following problem, maybe you can help me.

I have an Acer Travelmate 8571 with InsydeH20 Bios and nearly all options are disabled by default. Particulary the boot priority menu is totaly disabled. Is there a way to enable all disabled options?

    The options are:

Main: Only System Time and Date are changable.

Security: Only User Passord and HDD Password are changable.

    Boot: Nothing is changable

Exit: "Load Setup defaults" and "Discard changes" are NOT changable.

    The Bios version is 1.27

    InsydeH20 Rev. 3.5

    OS = Windows 7

Is there a way to enable all the other options? Escpecially the boot sector, because I am not able to load a Boot CD, because the HDD ist 1st boot priority.

    Thanks in advance and greetings.

There's on Acer support two new Bios for Acer Travelmate 8571:

-BIOS Acer 1. Fixes system delay problem as user key in password. (plus...) v1.33 4.7 MB 2010/03/03.

    and

-BIOS Acer Supports 2 new Bluetooth devices: Atheros AR3011 and Broadcom BCM 92070 for Bluetooth 3.0. v1.36 4.7 MB 2010/04/22.

You might want to try those, first v1.33 & then the v1.36. They might fix the prob because normally you should be able to boot on CD, key F12 and enable it in bios.

PS: There's no v1.27 bios version...only start at v1.24. May have you flashing the wrong bios?

    Thank you for your answer.

I didn't flash any bios on my system. It is still the original version as bought. And it really is 1.24.

Unfortunately my system is not able to boot up any more. I am able to reach insyde bios but the system freezes during booting before I am able to reach the boot manager with F12. because the system refuses to boot i am not able to update the bios.

I tried to set an HDD Password and then ignored it while booting, so I was able to bypass the boot priority and start from CD. But by bypassing the password the HDD is closed by the system so I am not able to do any repairs from cd.

Do you see any other possibility to enable the boot secotion on insyde bios so that i can change the boot priority? or it it able to reach the dvd volume on any other way?

    the priority is 1: HDD 2: DVD-volume 3: USB-volumes

thank you in advance for your time.

    greeting,
    jb.

UPDATE: I just saw that the F12 Bootmanager is disabled by default in the insyde bios and it is not possible to change that option, either.

If possible, remove all passwords from HDD, BIOS, etc, then prepare a recovery USB stick and update to the lastest BIOS via Fn+ESC method (google for it).

One of the reasons your BIOS version might not be available on Acer's website is because they remove buggy BIOSes from their site.

    Cheers!

Don't post instructions on how to remove password(s).
It's bypassing security measures which is against forum rules.
    Thanks.

    Replying to myself:

5810TG (SU 3500 CPU) has a Macronix 1605D-M chip as flash bios serial memory.
Chip is visible once the backside RAM and HD protection is removed.
So there's no need to dissassemble the hole laptop to search for this reference.
Chip had a sticker on the top with some reference regarding the bios version ("JM51D 18" or "JM51D 10", hard to read even with the magnifier). This ref is also linked to the bios file name expected for the bios recovery procedure.
Sticker had to be removed to access IC reference, which (of course) have been partially rubbed out by the glue.
Properly oriented strong light revealed the IC references though.
Sticker remains sticky enough to be put back in place.

As expected ftom a laptop no serial programming header available.

Possibly the same on later SU9400 models

Wishing nobody requires this info as much as I do ;)

I now have to think best way to reflash bios chip ( on board, off board ). Each way has its pro and cons.

    Thanks for your attention
