the core i5 in this model is one of weaker core i processors :/ but still faster than the ulv processors...

    the lid options look funky...

Really hope there are models with the Core i7's, specifically the Core i7-660um.

    core i7 in a 11.6" form... hmmz

well the lenovo x201 has core i7s in theirs... so i guess it is a possibility.

Notice it I wrote "Core i7-660um", "UM" meaning ultra low voltage processor with the same 18W TDP as the Core i5-520UM. These are all the processors that could work in the 1830 series:

    Core i5 520UM
    Core i5-540UM
    Core i7-620UM
    Core i7-640UM
    Core i7-660UM

The Core i5-540UM and Core i7-660UM will replace the 520UM and 640UM in Q3 when the Arrandale platform refreshes.

I really like the size of my 1410 and would love a travel laptop with an I5. Is the 1810's keyboard better than the 1410's? I7 would be nice but even without it, this is a monster of a "netbook". Some basic graphics capability would be nice. What a great device for an XGP port and basic ATI graphics like the Ferrari One. I don't expect to see one anytime soon, if ever.

I wouldn't consider the m11x a netbook... or is it? lol

I would not classify it as a netbook due to the powerful components it has inside. Would you call the Sony Vaio TT a netbook? It is even smaller with its 11.1" screen.

Anybody know if the Core i ulv's are soldiered on?

    Although it doesn't have a Core i620um/640um...

I still feel the Core i520um will blow away the su7300 into darkness of Obseletion....!!!

Most probably Acer will launch future updates with 620um/640um but even then I believe that the i520um will be a great improvement over su7300 and more than enough for most of us...!!! ;-)

    1. So when do you guys think it will start shipping..???

    2. What do you all think will be the Debut Price...???

How thirsty is the i520um going to be compared to the current 1410/1810 processors? Will it increase or decrease battery life?

i believe the core i5um processors are only 15-20% peformance gain from the su7300/9400 culv processors.

The i520um consumes 18watt.The dual core CULVS 10watt.

From this original 1830T leak at Macles....
How can the cpu speed be increased 1.06 to 1.86GHz?

"Acer upgraded the processor to an Intel Core i5-520UM with a base clock speed of 1.06GHz, which is dynamically increased up to 1.86GHz depending on a few parameters such as temperature, utilization and active cores. Intel calls this Turbo Boost. The processor has two physical cores and supports hyper threading which results in a total of four threads or virtual cores. All of this combined with architectural improvements make it faster than previously used processors, despite the lower base frequency. Compared to an Intel Atom it is in a different league.
The graphics core, with a dynamic clockspeed between 166MHz and 500MHz, shares a package with the CPU now, and is like all Intel Graphics Media Accelerators too slow for current games. What is useful is decoding acceleration of the most important video codecs. The other chip is the Mobile Intel HM55 chipset."

Just noticed the scroll bar on the touchpad, BTW

Not digging that tidbit. 20% more performance at the cost of a 40% hit on efficiency. I might stick with the 1410/1819/AO752 models.

Keep in mind that 18watts includes the processor AND the chipset and integrated graphics since they are all integrated together.

I dunno how much the current GS45 chipset and X4500 integrated graphics adds onto the 10watts of the current CULV chips.

    So, its not that bad.

I'm curious how the pricing of these new models will compare. Hopefully, there will be a $400 model like the Celeron 743 and SU2300 models. I'm guessing not since there are no "budget" Core i processors and no Celeron equilvalent.

I'm excited about a Core i subnotebook, especially when Acer can make it affordable. :)

Too bad these don't have USB 3.0 yet, I always like to get the latest technology to be the most "future-proof", which is almost an impossibility in this industry. Just like I'm salivating over the hex-core desktop processors making my Core i7 920 look like a dinosaur.

I'll bet even the current "outdated" CULV models are good enough for me. :D

surely the HD graphics will be better than the 4500 in the previous model?

    good for 1200-1500 3dmark06?

    or am i missing something.

Twice the performance. Maybe. The ulv Core i's do have slow gpu clockspeeds, from 166MHz to 500MHz. Notebookcheck tests.

    yep thats what i thought.

to me this is AWESOME. exactly what i need. i dont play todays games, i play mostly stratgey games. so the m11x was overkill for me and too pricey. i need better CPU if anything, my 1000he netbook is getting tiresome.

so whats likely cost of the base 1830t? if it gets anywhere near the x201 then for me i would go another brand. acer for me is about good value.

Traditionally, LV and ULV have been soldered onto the boards. There was a motion calling for Intel to sell a socketed LV processor at one point, but I don't think anything ever came of that.

As a 1410 owner, I'd never end up buying this (way too soon to upgrade), but it looks like a really nice package. Though based on current pricing, I'd guess this'd come in around at least $700, which is a tad on the higher side.

I think Acer's site is confusing. They state it will use the I5 processor on product page, but Core 2 Solo on the specifications page.

Acer has copied some stuff from the 1410/1810 pages. I am sure once officially revealed the page will say the 1830 does have a Core i5 and not a Core 2 processor. And maybe start shipping next week? Wow, I need to get my money ready!

And the funny thing is, Brad Linder (liliputing) doesn't even know there's something wrong with that.  Obviously, Intel HD graphics = core i, that's a dead giveaway.

I read an interesting response to a post made on Netbook Choice regarding the 1830T.

"Nvidia said “watch this space” when I recently asked them about a ION+CULV combo."

While NVIDIA may not have been talking about the 1830T, the prospect of small (11.1"-11.6") notebooks with CULV or UL I5/I7 processors and an Ion 2 (310M) is extremely interesting. It would be the equilivent of a UL30JT in a 11.6" form.

My 1410 serves my travel needs for now. For the time being, I'm going to wait and watch while I replace my old Dell Vostro 1500 with an Acer 3820TG. I think there will be a lot of interesting developments this year with Optimus and small factor computing. An 11.6"/I5UL/Ion/SSD w/ Optimus is the perfect travel companion. I am so there as soon as somebody decides to release it.

As soon as NEXT WEEK? I was about to pull the trigger on a 1810 this week.... so glad Tigerdirect's bing went down so that I didn't!

Prices are falling for the 1410 and 1810 all over the place. Maybe retailers are already starting to get these newer lines shipped in. That's a shock, first they say announcements will be made at the end of the month and now they say people might have them by the end of the month! Regardless, all very exciting stuff..
