Yea.. exactly my point about Acer's variable availability.
The 1820pt is still not sold in the US. And in Taiwan,
you can find a very few 1420p tablets, but no 1820p.

So it would be a miracle if by June 1st, the 1830T
    was generally available worldwide.

BTW... I'm predicting the 1830T initially will have only the i3m processor.
Then by mid-Summer, an i5um (slower but cooler than the i5m)

I too am anxious to buy an i5, but we need to be realistic here.

The 1830T will not have an i3 as there are no ultra low voltage i3's. i5 or i7 only.

You are absolutely right about Acer's distribution policies. But this time I get the feeling that has very little to do with Acer.I think the problem is with Intel. We keep hearing about the ulv i proccesors but we haven't seen them yet.I think Intel is not ready to produce the numbers needed by the notebook companies. So it will probably be a long wait.

Aside from the i5 UM core upgrade and new build, what else are we looking at in terms of upgrade from an 1810TZ?

The trickling announcements isn't convincing me enough to wait... I might just spend about $500 for a 1810. SSD are dropping in price as well so I should have a beast of a machine for under $700.

I would say is the integrated graphic that can be considered as major upgrade, other like processor, doesn't upgrade much...

DDR3 ram, better graphics performance, and a slimmer chasis are it. Good enough for me!

I don't know too many details on ram - as far as I know, DDR2 caps at 1066hz, so the only difference can be noticed is when you have a DDR3 at 1333hz or greater right?

Is it safe to assume the 1830t (or ddr3 laptops in general) come packaged with DDR3 1333hz or greater or are you guys just happy that the board supports DDR3? I don't really want to spend more money upgrading internal parts aside from the HDD to SSD.

The ulv Core i5/i7's will use DDR3-1066 ram but it will run at 800MHz. Most DDR3 laptops out now can only use it at up to 1066MHz, so they come with that. I beleive only quad core i7 notebooks use higher like 1333MHz ram for now.

I am really looking forward to these laptops. The integrated GPU will be a nice step up, Core I5 chips, and I am hoping a better build quality.

I made HDMI and Bluetooth a requirement before buying my 1810tz.
But after 4 months, I haven't even tried out either one of them.

Maybe I'll skip this and just save up money for the Sandy Bridge version. That one will probably have USB 3.0 and with the gpu integrated onto the 32nm cpu, battery life, heat control, and performance will blow away the SU9400 I have. Even just thinking about that 1840t (?) has me more excited. :D

Sandy Bridge for notebooks is due Q1 2011, so likely CES 2011 (which means January). But just like with Arrandale, processor details will start leaking in a few months. And with the 13.3" and up TimelineX's not due until May, this won't be out till June maybe, and I can wait 6 months past then. ;)

I dealt with a Pentium 4 powered Dell Inspiron 9100 for almost 5 years (and an EEE for 1yr), waiting for the now cancelled Intel Aurburndale processors, so this little wait until Q1 2011 won't be bad. It will just make the switch from Core 2 to (Sand Bridge) Core i5/i7 even sweeter. ;)

The Aspire One 752 has been available from Amazon in Germany for a few days. Not too surprising since it's a re-badged AS1410.

Probably not the processor. My SU9400 gets a 4.2 for processor power. I think it is the graphics, the UM Core i's have the slowest graphics (base of 166mhz, clocks up to 500mhz) of all Core i processors. And the GMA 4500 in my 3810t gets a 3.2. If I were to get this, the slowest processo I would accept in this is a Core i5-540UM.

    My 2 cents...

The fact that it might not even get a Core i5 processor coupled with the fact that even if it does get the i5 it might not perform a lot better than the current 1810 offerings leads me to believe the 1830 will simply replace the 1810.

It's pretty obvious that Acer wants to downgrade the 1410 to their "netbook" (Aspire One 752) so they can hold the price down on that hot selling unit. My guess is that the 1830 will replace the 1810 so that Acer can market it as a "notebook" at a higher price. I think that when Acer offered the SU2300 equipped at $399 they probably hurt their 1810 sales a little. The 1830 will be different enough from the Aspire One 752 that Acer will be able to market them differently.

Why would Acer only give a Core i5 520UM in a "Sample Model" and then not give it in a "Real production model"....???

There's no need to do that. Some websites even claim that 1830T will have a Core 2 Solo...!!! Why would Acer have Core 2 Duo in 1810T & then go back to Core 2 Solo in 1830T....??

Well, I pretty much never use HDMI out when at home but frequently use it at work, when traveling or visiting friends/family. Bluetooth is used anytime I am using my 1810 at a desk with my Logitech BT mouse and very occasionally to connect to my smartphone.

I just picked up a 7200rpm 500GB Hitachi HDD for my 1810T, figuring that'll be a nice peformance & capacity boost. From the looks of things, there won't be enough tangible benefits from dumping my machine and migrating to an 1830, though improved build quality and better GPU performance would be nice to have...

Hi, do you have any idea when is this machine supposed to come out and go on sale? I am just about to buy 1810TZ, but if 1830T comes out soon I will wait. I read here somewhere it was supposed to come out by the end of March, it is April now and no sign of it..... I dont really know, shall I wait and buy 1830T or buy 1810TZ now?

If I understand what I have been reading, it looks like the CULV I5/I7s are bing delayed until Q3. It could be late summer before we see the 1830T. If the demand on the high powered Icores continues, it could be longer.

If you need a computer in the near future, I would not wait.

Yea.. the 1830t seemed to be mentioned as an after-thought at the model introductions.
I suspect the standard i5m and i7m are just too hot for the smaller 11.6" body.

When and if the i5ulm or i7ulm are released, perhaps September,
then Acer could be ready to go with the 1830t. But Intel's ULMs may never
be released because of performance issues (too slow) as mentioned
    in the recent announcements.

An interim marketing option for Acer is to package the new 1830 chassis
design with the SU9400 or the SU9600 and hold onto the 1830T name.
    Better than nothing?

    1. The Lenovo X201 uses M series Core i5/i7's, it is a 12.1".

    2. The 1810 already has the olympic version with the SU9400. The SU9400 is around 2 YEARS OLD! So putting out the 1830 with Core 2's is not a good idea.

The next best thing would be for Acer to put the LM's in the 1830t, or wait for Sandy Bridge ulv's in Q1 2011, which is not to far away from summer if the ulv Arrandale's don't get released.

Can't quote my source unfortunatly. But if you take a look at the history of the past 4 years of ULV CPU's, the majority is always released late Q2-early Q3 from major laptop OEM's.

I think we just better wait and see what happens. I don't think Acer will do a step backwards, since other brands won't. You can't compete in a market in which everybody has new technology and you don't. So, I'll guess we have to wait, since specutilating we won't go anywhere.

    sounds reasonable.

but if you had to make a recommendation would you advise to wait for the new model (when will it be out SOONEST?) or just buy the 1810t now and be content with it (I don't know if the 1830t will have the same price and it doesn't seem to be coming out together with the slightly larger screen models in may).

that's of course a very personal decission.. do you need a laptop NOW or can you wait 2 months?

Thats pretty much it. In my case, I felt I wanted to sell my Fujitsu 12" laptop and, once I found a buyer, it was gone. So, I was in need for a laptop and I got the 1810TZ the same day Windows 7 was release and, thus, the machine. I'm pretty sure I was one the first in Spain to get that laptop.

I could have waited, and then I'd probably have gotten the Hp Dm1 or Dm3 or even the same Asus a friend got (ux30). But I wanted a laptop as soon as possible and I liked the 1810TZ and just got it.. and I'm happy, suits my needs and was quite cheap too.

well, I'm weighing the options. I would prefer to get it now and the price does also count for me. so these are basically the two factors. if I had to wait till like... september for the 1830t to be released it would definitely be too late. and if it costs more than the 1810t costs NOW I'd also rather get the older model.

for me it should more or less be a more powerful replacement of a netbook with which I can do more things (even play some little / older games).

i'm not familiar with the hp dm1, dm3 or the asus ux30 - if you say those are preferable to the 1810t for my needs i'd consider those.

so yea that's it. it's just that i want to make this decision within the next week and i'm just unsure what's the best perspective at the moment.

    Here is another option.
    Pick up a less-expensive AS1410 with the SU2300.
Sell it for about $75 less on eBay in October or November,
after we know what models are available, and after the first few thousand
units have been field-tested and preliminary drivers have been updated.

I'm currently living in Europe and will have family visits from Canada in June.. I was planing on ordering the 1810T Olympic edition so that they could bring it to me, but now, seeing that the 1830T is *almost* there, I'm torn between the two. This is like a one time opportunity for me to get a netbook with these kind of specs, minus the huge price in euros that they are asking over here. Also : the qwerty is a blessing! I can't get used to those AZERTY keyboards...
Anyone think the 1830T may be released before june??

Highly doubt the 1830T will released in Canada before June.

"Digitimes estimates ultrathin prices will be reduced anywhere from $32 to $95,
so bargain hunters should be on the lookout for dirt cheap CULVs."

Plenty of Old CULVs to go Around at Fudzilla.

instantcoffe, don't waste your money on a marginally better 1810t su7300 or su9400.
Pick up an 1810tz or 1410 with su2300 cpu as a one-year machine
until the dust settles on these 1830s.
