I asked about this but no one answered. are you certain the 11.6" will be included in tomorrow's release?

No I'm not. -
There isn't even any pricing info on the 1830Ts yet but the other timelines are already priced.
-
I understand that the 1830T does not come with USB 3.0 but is it USB 3.0 ready?
The way many USB 1.1 laptops had capability of adding USB 2.0?
If not, any chance of a mod? -
I don't understand how a laptop could have the ability to upgrade from 1.1 to 2.0, and 2.0 to 3.0?
-
My 1st Laptop was an Inspiron 8200 Dell that only came with USB 1.1
6 to 9 months after purchase, USB2.0 became the standard in laptops and USB1.1 was equated to FAIL.
So I added a PCMCIA USB2.0 adapter card to the i8200 and was able to get 4 USB2.0 ports.
My concern here, is that the same thing if not worse will happen if I get this very tempting 1830T. I say worse since from the looks of it, theres no physical way of adding usb3.0 then it goes from bad to worse.
And, I'm aware of the argument that there will always be something better coming out in the next quarter or two.
However, some releases are paramount compared to others. USB3.0 will squash and make usb2.0 seem silly, just the way we can laugh at usb 1.1 speeds now. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Intel is implementing USB 3.0 into laptops in 2011 with the Huron River platform on the Sandy Bridge architecture. This platform and processors should debut at CES 2011. So the next gen Acer 11.6 (not including a refresh Acer will likely do before the year is over) will have it. -
I C. I guess it won't me much of a loss though if it is ~$600.
That i8200 was ~$3,000 so it was a tough blow to know that I had missed the usb 2.0 by several months. And since I was able to add usb2.0 I kept it. Lol, I actually still have it and it boots up and runs faster than other peeps pcs that I know and for sure faster than my schools pcs. I don't use it any longer and don't try to sell for the $200 that it's probably worth now.
I guess I treat it like an emergency pc during those rare moments that my desktop goes down. -
oh the i5 HAS now been confirmed by acer? sorry i have gone back through the thread and cant find the linkage. please post. thanks.
-
IKilledYourHamster Notebook Evangelist
still so many questions at the moment, tinkeringmc. i will wait until tomorrow for more news because the larger TimelineX models will launch then. hopefully, the 11.6" will follow.
-
ah ok cool. just thought maybe some peeps new something definite by the chat that was going on.
thanks. -
This thread is starting to remind me of the Asus UL20a thread! I sure hope Acer doesn't disappoint.
-
Don't have high expectations if you don't want to be dissapointed.
-
That's my point. I'm thinking the 1830 might not get the i5 or the price will be jacked up. Just a hunch based on the misinformation we've seen so far.
-

Good news is it appears on the Acer product page and ads! I think Acer will finish updating the website by the end of the day. For now, all pages are blank.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Today is the day. I can feel it! When I wake up, release dates and prices will be known.
-

Here are some interesting photos I found from netbooknews.
The photos Macles posted are better, I think. There was no "Aspire" logo, the palm rest was a nice brown color that imitates wood texture, and nothing looked glossy except the screen. -
These are some fugly colors.
-
IKilledYourHamster Notebook Evangelist
yes, I will avoid the red color and go for brown or black.
-
I'll almost certainly be grabbing one of these as long as the price isn't too far over $600. Waiting for the announcement is killing me, though.
-
Hah, the announcement is just the first part! Then you have to wait for pre-orders to start... and then for the pre-orders to ship, and if you don't get in on that for the suppliers to restock...
The waiting really begins AFTER the annoucement
-
Well I'm mainly anxious about the price at the moment. If it's $700 then I'll definitely be passing so none of that will concern me.
-
You're right, price point is definitely important. I'm not trying to pick on you specifically but everyone is going crazy over the "announcement" part that they seem to forget most of us are weeks away from even getting our hands on one of these.
The 3820 series pre-orders came up in signapore but they won't be shipping out till the week of April 12th, says the Acer site. I doubt the 1830 will be anytime before that seeing as they haven't made any official announcements yet. Just a heads up for those of you who didn't catch that and wanted some info on release timeframe. -

Any anouncment on the 1830 yet?
-
i dont think there will be for a while?????????? and then for release. well its all too late for me, im looking into alternatives.
-
1810t SU7300 go for about $680 right now. A step up to an i5 being around $700 doesn't seem surprising to me... but it will definitely be quite a deal breaker if the price gets any higher then that.
I'm going to be throwing in an SSD for sure, so that's about another $150-$200. Spending $850+ on a travel notebook seems harsh at this point. Let's hope Acer doesn't disappoint! -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
The 1810t with a SU7300 was originally $599, Acer raised the price once they relized it was selling well and they have no competition (the UL20 doesn't even come close). So I am hoping the 1830t is at most $700 since I'm not sure I will be able to sell my 8 month old 3810t for more than that. -
How does the UL20 not come close? It has less battery life but costs a little bit less. It's also got a nice (imo better) keyboard/aluminum lid.
-
IKilledYourHamster Notebook Evangelist
i had the UL20. keyboard was decent but too much flex for me. also, the keyboard cover would rattle so i had to get that fixed. it was a common problem among all ASUS UL-notebooks though.
the cover was nice! -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Well when the 1810t was at $599 I liked it better than the UL20 due to:
- Slightly smaller size
- Weighs more than a pound less than the UL20
- Comes with a larger hdd
- Has bluetooth
- Has an HDMI port
- Comes with 4GB ram vs 2GB on the UL20
-
Hmm didn't realize it was so heavy. Can't believe it weighs more than the UL30A. I also completely forgot it suffers from a random HDMI-less defect. Good call.
Edit: both netbooked and liliputing report 3.5lb weight in their user reviews, but all the retailers say it's 4.18, odd. -
so should I wait for 1830t or get 1810t olympic version right now?
is the price tag for 1830t out yet? -
I closely followed the introduction & evolution of the Acer 1410 and 1810 series. I might even have coined the term "netbook killer" in an early SU3500 posting at Slickdeals.net. I've also closely watched the progress of Acer's 1420p/1820p tablet, still pretty much not available 8 months after showing on Acer's website.
Acer releases new products slowly as they become available.
Its not just a marketing decision, its a productivity decision.
Often smaller markets like Italy get them first.
And the reviewers will get the 1830T soon, as they trickle in.
I could be wrong, but don't expect the 1830T to be generally available
in the US for 8 to 12 weeks. You may see a batch of 50 or 100 show up
at Amazon or J&R before that time. I hope so.
About our enthusiasm here.. anticipation is half the fun.
Like looking for a new car, checking the specs, negotiating.
After a few months of ownership, I hardly remember why I cared so much. -
That was the thread that got me hooked on my 1410. Still love it, SU3500 and all.
-
I agree completely.I have the SU3500 and the SU4100(TZ).Nothing compares with the anticipation and the happiness when I got the SU3500.And even though the tz is supposedly better, most of the times I find myself using the Su3500.

According to Tom's Hardware Italy
http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=it&ie=UTF-8&sl=it&tl=en&u=http://www.tomshw.it/cont/news/acer-aspire-one-752-il-nuovo-netbook-top-di-gamma/24363/1.html&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.it&usg=ALkJrhhAtBXMuxmyVOLRAOLLM29q8VGgdw
the Aspire one 752 will start at €449. So the 1830t should start at €500
-
Why the sad face? The 1810T with a SU7300 goes for $680 right now in the US. Granted, it did start at $599 but got upped to $680 as said above, the upgrade to an arrandale and all the other upgrades at that price would be EXCELLENT. It's like paying the same price for an upgrade, but just having to wait a few weeks. I would be very happy with this price.. but if they push it any farther it will likely make people consider a larger, faster notebook at the same price.
-
So what happened to the Acer Press Conference announcing the 1830T...??? Did it happen yet or not...???
Also the German Timeline Website does not list 1830T however it does list the 3820T, 4820T & 5820T... Same with the Italian Timeline website...!!! And whats with the websites saying that the Timeline X starts from 1.8 kgs to 2.4 kgs....???? Isn't the 1830T supposed to be the same weight of the 1810T which is 1.4 kgs...?? What's all this confusion with the weight...??
Whats happening here...?? How come some countries have the Timeline X on their website and some countries dont...??? What's happening man...???
Where is my Timeline X 1830T.....??
If i get Angry... Then i will buy a 1810T...!!!
Nope i wont do it....
I'll still wait for a 1830T....!!! This is driving me nuts.... I need to get a 11.6 ASAP...!!! Does anyone feel the same way...??? -
Actually you're right, but seeing as the 3820/4820/5820 all start at 699, is far more likely that the 1830 will go for 599. And thats not a bad price if you consider it as an upgrade, but it is higher than what the 1810 originally went for.
-
You're gonna have to wait 1-2 months before getting your hands on the 1830T.
-
I hope your right. 1-2 months is nothing, it's not like a 1-2years.
-
1-2 months tech time is like 1-2 years real time.
-
I would agree with you for those that have nothing and this would be their only and primary PC, then 1-2 Weeks would seem like forever. Hell, I can't even go 1 day without my pc.
My bad, I assumed most on here have something else and this will either be an upgrade or a supplement to what we already have. -
Can't wait two months for the 1830t?
An eBay company has ten new AS1810t-6188 notebooks #LX.PM402.003
with Win7HP, 4GB, 400GB HD and the fast SU9400 processor.
The keyboard is slightly different because this CPU is available only in Canada.
$748 USD minus 8% Bing cash back = $688 USD
minus $15 in eBayBucks (if you want to count that)
Plus $20 shipping to the US.
Link here, or search for "LX.PM402.003" at eBay. -

What is this two months?!! can we just say 3 weeks at most? :<
-
Is this with the olympic silver lid?
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Yes it is. -
