Thats a bug with the crucial m4.

Plug it back in and turn it on and leave it, if it doesn't boot after a min or 2 try again.

Best way is to plug it into a USB case and keep it powered till drive shows on windows.

Had same issue new firmware fixed it.

They released a firmware update that fixes this issue last month so update the ssdbto latest firmware you won't lose any data.

Memory for the Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830T question: I have the Core i3 model (1830T-3505, does its job I think), bought back in 2011...
Now I'm looking to add as much RAM as I can as I have a memory-intensive software to run. Has anyone tried 2x 8GB sticks for a total of 16GB? Which ones did you use? Crucial recommends 8GB Kit (4GBx2) 204-pin SODIMM DDR3 PC3-10600 but I was hoping to go a bit higher.

I have the 1830T-3721 and it is not booting up. When it powers up, the blue light comes on but nothing comes on the display. The fan will run and get hot but nothing is happening. The HD light doesn't go on, so not sure what is running to make the cpu hot. Any ideas?

Have you tried reseating the memory? Without seeing it in person, the best I could say is either improperly seated or bad memory, or a problem on the motherboard.

It sounds like it is not posting. Do you get any beeps or blinking of the blue light? Are you getting anything on your display at all? Boot menu?

    Hi everyone,

I just took over my mom's Acer 1830T, and did a few upgrades to it (SSD, 802.11ac card, etc). Like all Canadian market Acers, hers came with the dreadful bilingual keyboard, so I set out to replace it with a proper US English keyboard.

The first keyboard I got (from an Asian seller on eBay) didn't have the right labels on the F1-F3 keys (I think it was for an 1430), though it did work. But the spacebar felt really awful.

So, I got a second keyboard from another seller. This one has the right F1-F3 labels, and when I played with it before installing it, the spacebar seemed solid. Then I put it in... and the spacebar still feels weird. Not as bad as with the first keyboard, but still a little odd.

Is this normal on these machines?

Two years on and my core i7-680UM model is still going strong. I have replaced the HDD with a Crucial 120GB M500, upgraded the RAM with two 4GB sticks and replaced the Broadcom wireless with an Intel Centrino 6235 (with BT). I did a strip down yesterday. It had collected a lot of dust and I was bored. Sadly I didn't record it but it was a breeze and I have now replaced the stock thermal paste with some Arctic Silver and given the fan a good clean. Taking this thing to bits was pretty easy given its diminutive size (providing you've done this type of thing before). It's just a case of removing all screws inc. a slightly obscure one under the wireless antenna cables. Idle and the CPU cores run at around 36-45 Celsius. Under 100% load it goes up to about 65.

    Upgrading/converting Acer AO721 to 1830T:

First time poster, so if I'm doing something wrong, please let me know.

I've owned my Acer AO721 for a couple of years now, and I've been gradually upgrading it for better performance: 8GB RAM from Crucial, then swapped in an Acer AO1551 motherboard with AMD K625 dual core processor, then swapped in a Samsung 840 250 GB SSD, all with no big surprises or problems. Now I've decided to swap in a new Acer 1830T motherboard since it appeared to have the same footprint (it does) and I figured I could get a significant performance boost from the i7-680UM processor. So I chased down the matching fan and swapped everything in.

It runs, but not very well. None of the USB ports work, the max screen resolution is 1024 x 768, and the whole thing is just plain doggy. I figured it needed different drivers, but I suspect there's more to these problems than just drivers. My questions are (1) do I need a different BIOS (I'm guessing I do); and (2) how do I preserve/backup the existing BIOS in case the 1830T Intel motherboard just plain doesn't work and I have to revert to the 1551 AMD motherboard?

In case it matters, I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).

Anyone out there been down this path before me? Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Unless these Acers are obscenely weird, the BIOS is stored on the motherboard, so your 1830T board will have 1830T BIOS on it, that's not going to be a problem...

I have a 3730 and while streaming videos online, after a few minutes the computer shuts down because of overheating. I'd like to know from other users whether their computer do the same or if mine has a flaw. Apart from that it works fine. But nonetheless I'm very disappointed of this laptop. Anyone can give me advice?

    Thanx

Are you sure it's the CPU temp that's causing it to shutdown? You can check this with something like speedfan to monitor the temp. If it is the temp, have you tried removing dust from the fan vent and using it on cooling stand or surface that'll ensure good airflow. You should hear the fan speed increase as it gets hotter. If this isn't happening there may be a problem with your fan and/or settings.
