Been watching the Acer Tablets for a while now.
I think Acer silently decided not to market them.
Although I did see an 1420P at a shop in Taipei last month. And I think
there are still a few 1820PT tablets in the European market.
Probably a marketing decision.
My personal theory and experience is the CULV processors were
just too slow for a quality tablet experience.
Perhaps we will see an 11.6" i5 or i7 Acer tablet in 2011.
The Acer Tablet Thread here has pretty much died out, BTW

Is it just me or it's plain stupid to put a glossy screen on a touchscreen(something that you will constantly be touching with your fingers.)??? -
I hope the trend to put glossy screens on everything ends soon and forever...
-
I called them and they just don't know when they will have it.. -
Speaking of Acer Tablet, yesterday saw 1825PTZ with SU4100 at MYR2299 or ~US$716 being displayed and sold on IT Fair in Malaysia...
-
-
There's a guy on Blogeee that used sandpaper to remove the glossy parts from his laptop. Link is in french but the pictures talk for themselves :
http://www.blogeee.net/2010/04/guide-comment-poncer-son-netbook-pour-le-deglossyfier/
this is for the chassis, not the screen!! ; ) -
I have also heard of people sand-blasting the outer frame of their laptop to remove the gloss effect. Doing so requires, of course, access to a machine shop...
-
Man you give us hope....
Any more update on when we can expect this.... -
not yet, sadly... but each one of us seems to be on the lookout, so don't worry : if something shows up, you'll know about it soon enough...

There had been released a couple of artikels about the TimelineX series in Germany yesterday. They all name the 1830t to be released in May with i3-i5 core. I've found one release that claimed that the 1830t starts at 550€.
But i found an even more interessting fact which was quoted in just one article: (i'm unfortunately not allowed to submit links)
It says (with the last sentence) that there are comming up a range of timelineX travelmate devices with mate display starting from 11,6" ... -
care to post some links?
I'd love to see matte screens coming to the TimelineX series. But a travelmate? Hopefully they'll be redesigned. Anything in the 11,6' is welcome though!
edit : from a german "artikel" I found (translated by Google) :
<Compared to the first timeline-generation form factors, Acer in the new model series, the slim design and maintain. Available models are the customs Aspire 1830T (11.6), Aspire 3820T (13.3 inches), Aspire 4820T (14.0 inch) and Aspire 5820T (15.6 inches). Instead of Intel's low power CPUs CULV (Consumer Ultra Low Voltage) but are now more powerful Core-i processors. The only exception is the 11.6-inch model based on a ULV processor continues.> -
as i wrote: as a newbie i am not allowed to post links..
-
the future sure seems bleak for the 1830T :

I am seeing a travelmate 8172 at notebook.de
Is this the travelmate version of the 1830?
If that is the 1830 with a matte display then this is what i was waiting for.
It says in a week.
But what is a Core i3-30UMB ? -
does the 1830t at least have new intel graphics?? or is it same old same old??
-
Intel® HD Graphics 128 MB dedicated System Memory, supports Microsoft® DirectX® 10
is it the old one? -
Does it say that the 11.6" travelmate will get GT310M graphics?

Will you be able to tell us where & on which website Acer 1830T is available for sale....??
If you cant paste a link then could you please write it down for us....?!?
Thanks. -
Maverick took the specs from the acer.de website... so these aren't new specs... they've been up on the site for a while ; one page still says the 1830T will have a core i5... oh well, back to the waiting game...AGAIN...
edit : and for Bronsky : all I could find about the TravelMate 8172.. no indication about the graphics though..
http://prodesign.co.at/product_info...11-6--Notebook---Core-I3-29-5-cm-Display.html -
instantcoffe is right, I got it from acer.de website and translated it....but this hasn't been on the website for very long - I check the website regularly and I am sure 1830T specs aren't there for more than a week. I suppose if there are specs on official website, the item will go on sale very shortly.
Graphics, from what I understand from that confusing description, looks to be the same as 1810T...
Biggest confusion is the processor as in general description they say it is equiped with core i5 and then in detailed tech. specs. they state Core 2 Solo....
rana_kirti: the sentence "goes on sale" I meant as "will be available soon", otherwise I would have written "is on sale".... -
the 1830T page on Acer's website has been up for at least a month in France (acer.fr), Denmark (acer.dk), Finland (acer.fi) and probably in some other countries too (I checked them once while having nothing to do at work). And yet it hasn't popped for sale anywhere yet. Also, they don't list the same specs if you click on "technical specifications" and "benefits" on the products page. They do list ddr3 RAM and the following colors : Black, Brown, Red and Silver. They still don't know what HDD they will put in, so I don't think they're quite ready to release them yet.
-
ok, I never checked these other countries I just know last time I checked acer.de the 1830T wasn't there and that was about a week ago. Maybe they don't list HDD because it will vary depending on countries. i.e. here in the Czech republic they sell 1810T with SU4100, 320gb HDD, bluetooth and 2 years warranty....compared to i.e. UK where it has 250gb HDD, no bluetooth, 1 year warranty and is even 100 euros more expensive....

search for 1830TZ in notebook.de now
first appearence in a shop I believe.
550 Euro
Intel HD graphics
CPU is U5400 1.2Ghz
I can't find info for that cpu though -
http://www.notebook.de/acer-aspire-timeline-x-1830-g-1320
(I'm so glad to be able to post links now)
what they have listed so far : 2gb DDR3 RAM, 320gb 5400 HDD, Intel HD Graphic (whatever that is supposed to be) and a strange Intel Pentium Processor U5400 (3MB L2 cache, 1.20GHz).
Available in brown, red, black and silver. "Availability: in about 2-3 weeks available-preorder possible" 549 Euros
Edit : it should be noted that this model is the 1830- TZ, so it looks like Acer retained its old naming scheme and branded this one as a lower end model... -
If 11.6" subnotebooks are staying wtih CULV processors, somebody needs to put the new NVIDIA 320M integrated chip in one of them.
Nice to see a single 2GB ram unit. Easy upgrade to 4GB.
U5400??
Not enough here to make me want to trade in my 1410T (although my daughter told me that she "needs" my little 1410T when I get a 3820TG).

maybe it's this one?
http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/17668/1/
"If this is not enough for you, you better wait for Q3 2010 when Intel plans to launch a faster Core i5 called 540UM. This CPU will rock at 1.2GHz will stay at 18W TDP and with overclocking it will reach 2.0GHz."
edit : Thanks thundernet! It seems it's another CULV then...
from slashgear : "However, the U3400 won’t support Turbo Boost – something Intel doesn’t allow its Celeron range chips to offer – but it will get integrated 45nm graphics which can overclock from the standard 166MHz to 500MHz. There’s also 2MB of cache and DDR3 800 memory support." -

799 Euros (ouch!) -
There is even one version with
- Intel Core i5 Prozessor i5-520UM (3MB shared L3 Cache, 1.06GHz) mit Intel Turbo Boost
on the notebook.de website for 799€
.. I do not really believe that there will be three different versions of the 1830T... -
So now, we have some configurations and prices.
The question is how
' in ca. 2-3 Wochen lieferbar '
really translates, and I do not mean in english but in reality.
And also the power of all those strange cpus. -
So now that we can expect this pretty soon....
What do you guys think are the TOP 5 Reasons we should wait for 1830T rather than buying a 1810T....??? -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
2. Thinner, better looking, no glossy lid.
3. More performance with same battery life.
4. Uses 1.5V DDR3 ram vs 1.8V DDR2 in the 1810t, plus 1.25V DDR3 is coming soon.
5. Once a new processor is out, I would never go with the old, despite the costs.
-
1. How much better performace wise % has the regular voltage core i5 proved to been vs. a regular voltage core 2 duo...?!?
2. Will the same difference translate to CULV processors...?!?
3. Also in day to day usage where will/are we able to see the difference/superiority of a Core i5 vs. a Core 2 duo...?!? -
-
The 1830T is not worth $300-$400 more than the 1410/1810s (based on the euro pricing). You can almost get 2 laptops for the cost of 1 x 1830T.

Hmmmmm unless this thing just stuns us with regards to its pricing (and we're likely to only be stunned by its high price tag!), I think I am going to pass on the 1830 with these specs and stick with my 1810T for the time being. Like Zooster said, I'd need something a bit more compelling to dump my 1810T after 6 months' of use.....USB 3.0, a backlit keyboard, or Optimus switchable graphics would all be potential reasons to get excited over the 1830T. But in its current form, it looks like a very nice machine but not enough for anyone to go nuts over.
I said this back in Oct/Nov and I'll repeat it again here today--Acer realized they priced the original 1410/1810 series TOO low relative to the competition and that resulted in low production numbers and relatively high demand. At least in the North American market, these machines have not been in plentiful supply since shortly before the holiday season. All of this reshuffling is likely just so they can justify a stiff price premium for the "new" Core i SKUs while keeping the "old" single-core CULV Celeron M 723 around as a "netbook". -
Guys,
What would be the Top 5 Reasons to get 1810T "Now" instead of waiting for 1830T...?!?
Thanks -
- no usb 3
- no major improvements over the Olympics Edition in terms of glossy screen and lid
- we know the 1810T is silent, doesn't get too hot and gets good battery life (all unknown factors on the 1830T)
- it's available NOW (no known date for the 1830T on the North American market)
