Sorry, I misinterpret what you said earlier.

I haven't heard about the mouse freezing every 20-30 seconds problem. What kind of hard drive do you have? If it's a Western Digital than you need to use quietHDD.

DVD speeds seem normal to me, but Acer eRecovery is extremely slow due to the verifying/backup process. Try burning a CD or DVD after Acer eRecovery is done and tell us if you still have the same DVD speed problem.

Looks like Acer is in fact sundowning the 4820TG or at least the 4820TG-7566 at Microcenter. When you go there, select laptops then closeouts there it is...

My HDD is a WD, but I thought the lag problem occurred mainly in gaming? This seems to be a trackpad or driver issue. I've noticed that when using the mouse, if another finger lightly touches the pad it freezes. To get it moving again I have to remove all fingers then try again and it works. Not sure if this is a built in feature or what...

You mean the power adapter? Any 90Watt generic adapter will work. I picked up a closeout 90W kensington at Microcenter and it works fine.

The one that came with my laptop is a HIPRO HP-A0904A3 B1LF REV 02

Okay, recovery discs and backup images are done. Now backing up the license with ABR and burning an iso of Windows 7 install disc.

I'll probably do the clean install tomorrow or something. Before that I'm going to uninstall some of the bloatware and give this laptop a shot with some 3dmark06, OC the GPU, etc.

    Check your waranty law.

In germany Acer has to explain the first 6 month that you have damage the laptop if they do not want to repair it. After 6 month you have to explain, that the damage was inside the device at the moment you buy it.

I don't know the law in your country, but have a look at it.

Hi ppl. I've recently brought a AS4820TG, it is an awesome laptop. I've installed a fresh Win7 64 install, then all drivers, but now the P key for switch graphics (above ins key) does not work, what should I install?

Another question if anybody of you knows if this laptop has analog tv output from VGA connector, using an adapter.

For some reason I'm unable to update my graphics drivers for my 4820tg.

I downloaded the version from the Acer website, and every time I run the setup it says "CATALYST Install Manager has stopped working"

Any ideas why? I do have the ATI card enabled.

My current driver version is 8.741.1.5, and I'm trying to install 8.741.1.6.

Hey all more of a general question I think, but is it a good idea to run the battery down to <5% on the first use to calibrate it?

Help me, my laptop isn't detecting wireless. I ran Gpartition and reinstalled Windows 7, went to acer.com and installed all the drivers; yet my wireless isn't working. I press Fn + F3 and the the red light does not come up. Maybe I installed a corrupt version of Windows 7, it did not ask me about my internet connection, and looking through My Computer I find that the Home Group submenu is missing, which I had before I reinstalled Windows 7. The little icon at the bottom right hand corner shows a cable instead of the signal bars.

Are you sure you got the right drivers? There's three different wifi cards your machine can have. If you're not sure what you've got, you can create a live ubuntu disk, and after you boot it, go to a command prompt and type in:

    sudo lshw

and see what wireless card it has.

" Need to know the hardware on your system to choose the right drivers?"

I ran that and it told me I had "Wireless LAN: Atheros", so I got that one, unzipped, and clicked on setup. I also get an error saying the driver did not install correctly. Why?

Is it true or just me that the broadcom chip has a finicky connection? Sometimes it drops other times it won't connect to an access point.

Don't think it has anything to do with the power plan. I swapped out the chip with the Intel 5100 in my Dell Studio. Now the Acer has 0 problems and the Dell's dropping connections left and right.

Maybe, the new batch of Broadcom network cards are bad. I have no connection problems with my Broadcom WiFi/Bluetooth network card and signals seem strong around my house. Also, I have no problems discovering networks in my neighborhood.

I had the broadcomm on my first 3820TG and it was unbelievably bad. It's range sucked (I could not get a signal in my back yard) and it would cut out intermittently. I did find that it was more succeptable to shutdown with ePower running than other Wifi cards. Anyway, I now have an Atheros and love it.

Someone please help! This laptop is new, and my wireless was working flawlessly, but when I reinstalled Windows 7, and tried to install the needed WLAN driver (it said I need Atheros) from acer.com, I get this message:

"Atheros Driver Installation Program: The installation program installs the driver automatically when the client adapter is inserted. Insert the adapter now if it is not yet inserted, cancel the Found New Hardware Wizard if it appears, and proceed with the installation. Click OK to continue." (What adapter!? It's freakin' wireless I want!)

    And nothing happens.

All the other drivers installed flawlessly. How do I get my wireless?! Also when I press Fn + F3 the wireless splash image appears on the screen but the little red light does not turn on!

Are you 100% sure it is Atheros and not Broadcom or Intel wireless card? There are 3 different wireless drivers on the Acer.com website.

    Try this:

Download all available drivers for the wireless cards (It should be three)

Unzip them all into one folder but keep them separated, ie WLAN\Broadcom, WLAN\Atheros.

Go to the device manager and select the network device.

Select driver and tell it to browse your computer for the driver

Select the WLAN folder and let it do its thing.

Do you have it to discrete for the video option in the bios. Try that and download the latest driver from the AMD website. You can not dim the lcd with the keyboard with the latest version but everything else has worked for me.

Man the 2nd lowest brightness drains the battery much more quickly than the lowest brightness (~ 1% every 1-2 min vs. 1% every 3-4 min). According to the battery indicator calculations, I'd get ~3 hrs total with the 2nd lowest brightness setting. This is with wireless on, mild browsing, nothing else open.

Also, when plugging into AC, I'm asked to restart b/c the VGA graphics driver is reinstalled.

The only Atheros that I have tried and working is the Atheros HB97 drivers from the Applications disk that needs to be created.

None of the Atheros drivers from the Acer site worked for me.

Hi again. I've using the battery of my new 4820TG, Installed a OCZ Vertex 2 SSD with a fresh win7 x64 install, install new drivers from acer and by now my battery is unload very quickly. Windows says there are left 2 hour and 8 minutes with 43% of remain charge. I'm using the screen in midle dim, using usb mouse and 3G modem.

What would you recommend me to check for get the publicited eight hours? (or some near to that).

Upon plugging in the AC, it seems the system never switches back to the discrete GPU. I make sure to close all programs, but when I manually go into the "Configure Switchable Graphics" menu and select High Performance, everything on the screen except the mouse freezes for ~20-30 seconds, and nothing changes.

Checking device manager tells me that I have to restart my computer for changes to take effect. This has happened before, where the lower right icon bar shows Windows installing drivers for the VGA adapter after I plug into AC. I don't get why this is happening...

You guys are the best, by the way.

Download the Atheros HB97 driver I copied from my driver disc for the 4820TG. Extract the zip file into a folder.

Most people get around 6 hours (more or less) with medium screen brightness and WiFi enabled on the 4820TG.

It didn't work, I got the same message as before during installation (see my screenshots in the previous page).

    http://i51.tinypic.com/wlqbsl.png

This modded driver works, but I feel dirty and my laptop takes awhile to boot up now... the orange LED on my laptop still isn't functioning.

Is there a driver installation order?

does anyone still have the stock acer oem wallpapers that came with this laptop and would not mind uploading them?

    also, another concerns:
is anyone experiencing some problems playing some 1080p h264 files on their computers when running on the ati graphics card?
