Does this video cause the graphics driver to crash for anyone else?
LiveLeak.com - New Footage Shows Man Getting attacked and Scooter robbed
The only way I've fixed it so far is by disabling hardware acceleration on flash settings, but that's not really ideal. I'm just wondering if it's just me or if it is a widespread driver issue.
I can play games (BC2, AA3, CSS) just fine and other flash videos fine, it's just this one and a few others that cause a crash.
-
had the same issue with driver crashes with flash videos, updating catalyst drivers to latest sorted it out.
-
Same as mine?
I updated Catalyst Control center only, because I couldn't find any drivers that would work other than the ones from the /Acer site.
Still crashing on that video I linked above though. -
8.741.1.6000 / 8.15.10.2125 on win 7 ultimate x64
-
we have the same versions, I also tried many more things (like updating to adobe flash player 11 beta and tweaking my graphics properties for video playback in Catalyst), but nothing worked and it keeps crashing whenever I play some high-quality (I think that's what it is) flash videos.
The only thing I can do to relieve the problem is to disable "hardware acceleration" on flash videos. I will keep it that way for now.
I think it's probably some software problem because I can play high-end games just fine and my graphics driver has never crashed (except when overclocking, and when playing some flash videos). A reformat would probably fix it, maybe I'll try that when I have some more time.
Thanks -

Hi guys, I just ordered myself a 4820 i7, and I've read through the thread and I didn't really any picture of how much more performance increase the i7 gives, and wether it has any cons.
I've read that it gets really hot, but how does this affect gaming? I'm probably going to get a coolingpad, but do I need to repaste the CPU aswell?
Isn't there any option of just removing the cd-reader and installing a fan there instead somehow?
game on!
/Ylvinger -
i would say performance wise, the gain against top i5s like 540m is close to 0 in real life. some SW might be able to use use higher clocking and extra cache.
and the downside is that it gets really hot and uses more of the battery.
if i was you, I'd cancel the order and get i5.
but if you don't want to, with cooling pad it should be fine, with repasting even more. -
Well, I've ordered the last copy available and I got it for 660€, there is no 4820's available for sale anymore here as far as I know.
Luckily I live in sweden and it's cold here by winter, wireless mouse+keyboard and just put the computer by the window, hehe. -
you got i5 available.
10 seconds with google:
ACER ASPIRE TIMELINEX 4820TG CI5 2.53 4GB/500 HD5650 14.1" W7HP - Liten och nätt 14-tummare på endast 2,2 kg
but the price is higher though, so not really making sense anyway.
but you also get this:

Hi, i've got the i7 version too.
The only "problem" is throttling with prime 95 and furmark at the same time, a situation that you will never encounter in real world usage.
Playing oblivion for a couple of hour, the max temperature for both cpu and gpu was around 80°, with a mean value around 70-75°
So there's no real problem for temperatures.
PS: you paid 660 for the version with i7 640m and SSD ? what a low price!!! -
Could anyone tell me the proper way to install updated drivers for the ATI card? Do I have to uninstall the current one from the programs list first?
-
check the FAQs in first post of this thread.

Sorry to post this in case its already been answered, but has anyone been able to upgrade to the 1600x900 screen?
Edit: nvm finally found it. Looks like it's impossible. bummer. -
I am trying to record my guitar playing through this laptop. My setup is currently:
Guitar---> 1/4to1/8 converter ----> Mic 3/5mm jack.
However I am not getting any sound, the laptop isnt picking anything up. Its strange because I use an identical setup on my desktop. What could the problem be? Is it something to do with realtek? -
You need a preamplifier to capture the sound of the guitar, ora a external audio card with pre amplifier (for instrument level signal)
Something like this should do the trick (at a low price) -
I just reformatted my aspire timelineX 4820TG-7566 with Win764bit. I've got everything up and running so far, got the necessary drivers from the acer website, however I've noticed whenever I use the "fn" key to turn the volume up or down or adjust the brightness or hit "caps lock" a little volume up and down image would appear on screen as would for caps lock and brightness adjustment, that no longer happens. After I reformatted the on-screen prompts went away. I was just curious about how I could get that feature back.
I'm also having trouble getting my laptop to use its wireless capabilities. I get an internet connection when I connect to the router with an ethernet cable but I don't even get options for wireless settings in control panel let alone the ability to scan for wireless networks to connect in the area. I don't get it. I downloaded all of the drivers from the acer website and installed them all, besides a few of the bluetooth ones that wouldn't let me for some reason, but that wouldn't have anything to do with it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys. -
^^^
Install launch manager It's on the same page of the drivers, on acer's site. -
I can get that from this page?
Download -
^^^
Yes, under "application" tab -
Thanks mate but I don't know if its doing much. Every time I boot up windows it says I have new drivers to install then it takes me to this huge list of drivers and I have no idea which ones to get. It takes me to wireless drivers.
--------------
Hold up, got it! Thanks a lot Edgar, you solved both problems I was having regarding the "fn" key and wireless. I appreciate it mate, cheers. +Rep! -

Hi everyone,
I've been having some difficulty with my bluetooth--after a reboot one day, the device simply disappeared from the Fn+F3 menu, such that pressing Fn+F3 now just turns off my wireless. I tried to reinstall the bluetooth drivers and it tells me that the "bluetooth device is not plugged in" and won't let me install any drivers. Anyone know how I can turn the device back on, short of reformatting & reinstalling windows entirely?
EDIT:
Please disregard my question guys--after restarting it about 15 times, I suspended it last night and brought it back out of suspend this morning and the Bluetooth is back. Really strange, but I'll take it. -
I've finally hit the video game wall with this thing; it doesn't run the new Deus Ex game very well.
I decided to update my graphics drivers to see if it would get many any performance gain, and on the first page there's a walkthrough of it. I downloaded the file from acers website, extracted, and ran the setup.
It loads a CCC installer, I proceed and it just sits still at "Enumerating Source media for installable packages"
I've googled and found proposed solutions, but many of them involve a program at Guru3D called Driver Sweeper which, for the life of me, I can't find. The download links might be broken on their page, but it says "Select Download Location" and then there's nothing else to click on.
So I have two questions:
Does anyone know a way to fix this, or where to get a good copy of Driver Sweeper?
Does anyone know if the driver update will even do me any good? How likely is it to increase the performance for the Deus Ex game?
Thanks in advance. -
the 4820TG surpasses all the minimum requirements by a long shot. You should be able to run it at medium settings. -

Anyways, I've found the solution to my problem after doing some searching. AMD has released updated beta drivers and a lot of people who were having BSODs are reporting them fixed with the latest beta drivers. They can be found here: AMD Catalyst? Control Center / AMD Vision? Engine Control Center 11.8 Driver Preview for Windows 7 64-Bit Edition. After installing this, I no longer crash when watching any flash videos on my browser and I have not experienced any BSOD so far.
I noticed that somehow this installation modifies your display drivers as well (It's not just a Catalyst control center update).
Hope that helps someone! And thanks for everyone else's help a few pages back! -
I know I need to wipe/reinstall everything, I haven't done that once since I got it in January, but it should be able to handle something other than minimum, right?
Side question:
Does anyone know of a place I can find the Acer backup disc? I installed Ubuntu a while back and messed up my partitions, and now the program to create backup discs is broken... -
Deus Ex Human Revolution-Beta Gameplay HD - YouTube
Take a look at that video. That's the 5650 running with a dual core CPU at 2.2 ghz and it is running the game at 40 FPS on max.
I was able to run Crysis 2 at its lowest settings. Most games (DX amongst that) at max settings require what Crysis 2 needs for lowest.
Get the fixes to your computer and you should be able to enjoy dues ex without problem. Let me know if you have any other questions or need help reformatting. -
The problem I have with reformatting is I'm afraid of driver issues after reinstalling. I can't make a backup CD so I have to install a separate copy of Windows and then hope everything works right.
I also have Ubuntu installed, and I would want to do a complete disk wipe to get rid of everything and all partitions. Would a Windows disc do this?
Anyway, I tried the other guys suggestions and installed CCC in Discrete mode, and it worked fine... the AMD drivers are for when its set to Power-saving? -
You can backup the drivers and applications from the hidden folder at C:\OEM\Preload\Autorun\DRV
This is basically the same thing as creating a drivers disc with Acer's backup program.
You should also backup your Windows activation files before doing a clean install of Windows 7. Read the first page of this thread if you need directions. -
Wow it's been over a year since the 4820TG started popping up in the US. I'm curious to know how satisfied you guys are. How many people will be upgrading their laptops in the next few months, and if so to which model?
-
I've used it for work every day since then and some occasional FPS gaming. It's job is very demanding, I use the CPU and GPU under heavy load regularly. The unit has been reliable as hell and rock solid. I've looked long-and-hard at the Sandybridge 13" notebooks and there is nothing out there that I'd rather have than my 3820TG. -
Guys,
I have the Acer TimelineX 4820t with the 320 GB Hard drive. I would like to replace that to 1TB or even 750 GB.
Question
1. Will these sizes of HDD work?
2. How do I install the HDD?
3. How do I backup my windows from my current HDD and restore to new HDD?
Best,
Wiselar. -
1. Yes, most standard 2.5" SATA notebook hard drives will work (750GB, 1TB, etc.).
2. Remove the bottom cover of the laptop and just plug it in where the old one is. The SATA interface is plug-and-play friendly.
3. Use backup software like Acronis True Image, etc. to backup/restore your OS to a new hard drive. -
Will this card work with the 4820TG? I'm looking to upgrade. Thanks!

get this. -
Is there such a thing as an additional internal 1/8" SSD slot?
On the thread of the 3820TG they speak about such a slot, which, if i got it right, is not the hard drive slot. Do we have such a thing in our 4820TG? Did i misunderstood the original thread?
Thank you guys. -
The 3820tg has a miniPCIe slot that is free, but not working at 100% (usb work, power as well).
I think that the second miniPCIe is used with a sata/usb card on the 4820tg, allowing a dvd-drive and a 4th usb port.
but it's just a guess, as I've never seen it's motherboard. -
Hi Guys,
Finally there is an official update for the AMD/Intel Hybrid driver version 8.84.7.4 on Acer website. I installed it yesterday, and Windows Live Messenger hasn't crash yet. Looks promising so far. -

Thanks. -

Hey guys, back again with some questions. 4820TG-7566 owner:
After I reformatted with my copy of Win764bit, I never deleted those first two partitions on the hardrive. Is it safe to now delete those? Also, my power saving button isn't working/doing anything when I press it. It's the black button to the top right of the keyboard, next to the disk drive open button. It's supposed to put your computer into power saving mode when you press it (switches graphics capabilities, dims screen, turns off optical drive to save power, etc.), but it doesn't. Also I've noticed that when I unplug my 4820TG from the power supply while its turned on it switches graphics cards to intel hd (power saving) like its supposed to automatically, but when I plug it back into the power supply it does nothing and stays in power saving mode. I then have to switch back to the ati, high powered card manually by right clicking on the desktop and going to "configure switchable graphics", instead of it doing it automatically.
Any help would be appreciated as always guys, thanks. -
remormatted?
that means clean install, or reinstall using recovery disc created earlier?
you might need to install acer ePower Management Application for that button to work
the GPU switch is done automatically.
you can turn on the discrete to be on all the time in BIOS. -
The power saving button only works when you are on battery; not while plugged into an outlet.
You'll probably need to install one of the Acer applications for it to work properly too.
