PC details: Intel Quad Q8300, 6GB, 1T HDD, Win 7 Home.
I decided to change my hard drive after almost 3 years of usage.
The original hard drive made by Seagate is still OK, but I don't want to take any chances. I don't want to lose any work so I bought a new WD 1T drive and I cloned it then I disconnected the original drive. I verified that the new drive works perfectly, then I decided to do a fresh install and I have a problem with Recovery.
After pressing ALT+F10 I don't get directly to Recovery console, but
I get the following:
"Edit windows boot options for: windows setup"
Path: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
[ /minint /redirect rdimageoffset=8192 rdimgelength=3161088 rdpath=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\sources\boot.wim ]
Enter = Submit ESC=cancel
[If I hit ESC - it takes me to a window with many startup options like safe mode etc. But I went through that, hit "boot windows normally" and the same happens as I describe bellow]
After hitting "Enter" the Recovery console window appears and goes through all 6 steps for a complete restore of system to factory defaults - and after that it says "restore finished" and asks me to reboot - I click OK, it reboots and afterwards it says:
"setup is updating registry settings"
"setup is starting services"
"setup is installing devices"
"setup is applying systems settings"
and then there is a popup window saying "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware."
It has an "OK" button on it, so when clicked OK or "enter" it reboots.
For a moment it says "Setup will continue after restarting your computer".
After reboot it says "starting windows" then "setup is applying system settings" and while it shows that there is another popup saying "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware."
hit again "ok"
"setup is starting services" and popup "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware."
I can hit enter all day long - and it does that in a loop.
No way to go back, no way to enter the recovery, unless of course I want to go through that all over again.
Is there a way to fix this? Can I have that HDD restored? How?
