First off this is my very first post on this forum, and if its in the wrong place I want to apologize ahead of time. My friends laptop has one of the weirdest issues i've ever seen. When I boot the computer everything seems fine, but right after the starting windows logo goes by, the thinking cursor and blue welcome screen will show up for a few seconds but then completely shut off. The laptops backlight works but its not displaying ANYTHING. If we hook it up to an external moniter, it works fine, but the laptop screen ITSELF has no issue displaying the bios screen boot menu, or the different startup option. Its almost as if the issue is switching on a whim, anyway thank you to ever reads this post and for all your help.

Check if the internal screen is seen by Windows. It doesn't sound design like a hardware issue more like an obscure driver setting gone wrong.

It doesn't seem possible that it would be a BIOS setting either - otherwise you wouldn't see anything at all on the internal screen.

One easy step to exclude hardware problem would be to boot Ubuntu from USB pendrive.
