Name of product: Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries containing Sony-made cells used in Acer notebook computers.

Units: About 27,000

Computer Importer and Distributor: Acer America Corporation, of San Jose, Calif.

Computer Manufacturer: Acer Inc., of Taiwan

Battery Cell Manufacturer: Sony Energy Devices Corp., of Japan

Hazard: The lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: As announced previously, there have been 16 reports of notebook batteries overheating. These reports were associated with earlier recalls by other notebook computer manufacturers of batteries containing these Sony cells. These previous reports involved only minor property damage and two minor burns. None of these reports involved batteries in Acer notebook computers.

well mine is, and thats ok with me since i've had it for nearly a year and according to nhc my battery has worn down by 20%. But hey, free new battery, right?

no issue with my battery, only from 3 hours now it can only keeps barely 2 hours. so a new battery won't hurt

i hope it does,nt take them 5 week to send replacement they say stop use old but sucks not be able use laptop on battery mind ya cound risk just keep useing but we all know how bad lion batterys can be

 

I ordered my last night after hours, and I got an email today with the fedex tracking number...

I had already bought a 3-party battery (Sanyo) because the original 5672 was up to 66% wear! It will be nice to have 2 batteries.

Anyone want to buy a used battery with 33% charge capacity that's ready to explode at any minute?

i did it 2 days ago in the evening, now it's afternoon and still no email from them

 

Acer seems to hate you guys.

I got my email within hours and they sent the package overnight. It is set to arrive here today, Friday, and I only applied for it on Wednesday night.

This is awesome because I am just getting ready to take a trip, and the extra battery will be very helpful!

it helps that you're in the same state...
mine should arrive here today,(it was estimated at being here the 20th) and i live about an hour outside St. Louis.

 

Being in the same state has nothing to do with how soon they send you an email and how soon they ship it.

 

the fact that it was "sent overnight" even though it was shipped ground is why it helps to live in the same state

 

For anyone that has received the replacement battery, does it come with a box to return the defective battery? I do not know if it is a requirement to return the faulty battery but it would be nice to have two batteries and only use the faulty when when I go on trips (Heck I only get an hour or so as it is) . I appreciate anyone's insight on this issue!

 

Trust me, they don't want it back. It's just a disposal cost for them.

 

Thanks for the clarification. I submitted my serial number last night and got the tracking number today with an estimated delivery date of May 1. My 5672 has been great to me but the battery life has greatly diminished and it's great to have a new one. Its good to hear that there have been no injuries or explosions reported for Acer laptops and applaud the way they are handling this, with the ultra fast free shipping.

 

i also submitted my battery yesterday but no new e-mails
mine is from US but know I'm in Kuwait
does they can ship it outside US and how long does it take to arrive

 

i even tried to call the support in china (i'm here for work). they even don't recognize my battery, them system can't see the code, while online it's working fine. tried to call them for the past 3 days and got only 3 times the line after hours of trying...

 

yes me too i phone they number and let just say i don,nt expect replacement battery any time soon

well, for me was a chinese...
they told me finally, after 5 days calling on daily basis that my battery is on the way... will need 3 to 5 weeks. wondering how they will give me without asking me the address... maybe they got it after they see i already applied on the website... not sure. anyway, up to now, no email...

 

crap i'm so mad!! my battery is totally dead, and i didn't find out until after the warranty. i was so happy when i heard about the battery recall. but my battery is ONE week before the cutoff date! they are recalling 05/51 week. mine is week 50 in '05!!! BS!!!

 

i call them before 10 minutes and i find one who speak Arabic that change my shipping address and he also add me to his MSN Messenger

he said to me that it will take about 2-3 weeks to arrive

know I'm chating with him in my MSN Messenger

 

the acer seems to have been quite late to recall defective batteries or seems to have waited till all this has cooled down
well guess it has proved a bit effective as it hasnt caused such an uproar as the dell and hp and apple recalls

nothing in my opinion can beat talkinn to a representative on the phone or better face to face
online is just a waste of time

amazing how fast i got mine. in 12 hours i had an email with tracking number and then got the battery fast.

i am loving 0% wear with a 4800 battery!

wasn't the original 4400? i didn't bother to look.

i went ahead and sent back the original in their box (they pay return shipping too) since it had 66% wear it just wasn't useful to me at all.

 

no original battery is also 4800mAh as it on my battery

my battery is still can live 2 hours on win xp but not on vista

and for know no any new e-mail , should i call them

 

i'm so happy when i receive the tracking number before minutes

but it seems to be wrong or not active and there's 1 character wrong in my shipping address so i have to contact Fedex but i must wait until the tracking number work

i will wait for for hours and then retry

I got My Tracking number and battery is siting at work if you got you tracking number I imagine it will only be few more day max 5

The New Battery say sanyo on it old one does.nt i shound post pic of replacement battery specs are same as far i know not look at right now
