Hi
I currently own the acer aspire 6920g everything on the laptop works fine, but the fingerprint reader is causing me grief. The preinstalled reader software (version AAV 6.0.00.12) did not detect the device, so i then uninstalled the software and installed version 6.0.00.6 which worked then upon restart i get the error "Compptcvui resource 186 not found", after clicking ok i am able to swipe my finger and login.
When windows vista has loaded i can right click on the biometrics tray icon and when i click on settings i get 3 error messages regarding product wizard which appears as PdtWzd.exe in the task manager. I am unable to set up anything such as launching programs or assigning passwords to my fingerprints as i get errors, i have tried to remove the software, but it says "Please restart your computer for changes to take effect".
I have tried runing the newer installer found in the acer folder but i get the error message "Please uninstall the older software" which i am unable to do. I have tried running the installer in safe mode and system restore, but there is no restore point for the software downgrade. I have resorted to manually deleting files but this didnt work so i did a system restore to an earlier point.
Thank you
Myles

Sorry to bump this but I have the exact same problem on my 8920g
, cant install new version nor re-install the old because of "Please uninstall the older software"
Manually deleted everything but the message is still staying...
now system restore isn't working for me either, completely lost now
ME2K have you found a solution to this yet? and can anyone else help? -
Uh oh, same problem-different details. Fingerprint reader stopped working in launch mode so I made the mistake of uniinstalling the driver for my 6920g (6.00.00.8). I've uninstalled the biometrics program but Windows Vista Ultimate cannot install the old driver (though it is still in the windows/system32/drivers directory. It loads an "unknown device" entry in Device Manager and won't let me manually select the correct driver.
Tech support IN INDIA wants me to back-up everything so they can have me start from stratch (as in "scratch my butt, while re-installing a year's worth of applications").
Any help out there America?
