I only use ePower Management from the list. Works well with XP.

I do not use or recognise the rest of the list (because it is probably worthless and superficial).

Another user can probably help here.

It all depends on what you want to do. The first thing I did when I got a 3100 was to pop in a new HDD and install XP. I kept the original installation on the original hard drive for a little while until I was sure XP would run fine, and now I use the original hard drive for periodically doing a disc image. I have none of the Acer bloatware and have not missed it at all.

so you don't have the launch manager which contains all the software for the media keys. or you have a few buttons that do nothing.

i have non of the above and im using vista. all i kept was the launch manager.

most of the stuff that comes with an acer can go...another bit of software that comes in the bunndle is NTI.you don't need it as theres better free stuff out there that does the same job, and use's less memory and doesn't start at start up :D

this has got to be the most asked question, and im glad new posters ask before they make a balls-up of it all :D

    all the best
    Phil :D

I have left all the original stuff from Acer to stay as they are and I don't feel they reduce the performance, but that's me, as for your question regarding the most important Acer application you need to keep,I would say "Acer Empowering Technology". eRecovery made my life a lot easier when I ran in to trouble and I will keep this tool which assures me that I can recover my system to Factory state any time I choose to do so.

After my clean install, the only two bits of Acer software I've put back on are Launch Manager (for controlling CineDash on the 6920G) and Arcade Deluxe (for Blu-ray playback).

eRecovery is just a nice looking front end for the windows back-up system thats all it is..and windows has a recovery restore system.which you should set a restore point before you install anything. but don't go mad as restore points can take up a lot of room on your hard drive.
eRcovery uses the same system but with just a nice looking interface.....and why would you do back-ups on to the same pc/laptop thats having trouble!

i use an external hard drive, much safer :D

My approach and ellalan's show why this is such a difficult and subjective question. I have a lot of experience with XP and (when I first got the Acer) none with Vista. My approach to disaster recovery is to regularly back up and regularly disc image so I don't really need eRecovery. It just made sense for me to set up a "generic" XP notebook, but it makes sense for others to keep the original install and many, if not all, of the Acer tools.

The erecovery offers preregistered VLK XP version , and that has the greatest value .

About the other ACER stuff , my old ACER does not look to have bloat .
I like anything on it .

Since when did Acer offer VLK keys? OEM uses OEM keys.

With eRecovery one can recover the laptop to Factory restore even after 2 years or more but doing that with windows system restore facility is practically impossible.
But for people those who know how to come out of difficult situations(AKA experts) it is of very little use.

I don't use any Acer eBloatware. When I got my 3680, I quickly wiped the HDD, removed the recovery partition and put on a clean install of XP.

As for the media buttons, I never use them anyway and a simple icon can replace them.

I have never killed my XP installation so I've never had to recover it but if it did happen then I would simply re-install XP. I don't use System Restore either as it takes up too much space and I've never found a use for it.

About the XP version , its my mistake its not VLK .. But the erecovery image even as OEM it is pre-activated .

And the mistake .... yes I call it mistake , that people do by wiping the original OS and erecovery ... its that ACER, and any laptops company ,
haves in mind , that the user uses a mobile device .. a traveler .

Thats why all the tools in them , are automated installations , to help with speedy and easy methods , to restore your laptop in minutes , even if you are at the top of the mountain , or in the middle of the desert .

This is the mission of the laptops , to be mobile and travelers .

If you handle them as desktops , they loose their character , they loose their usability , they loose any advanced safety if they get stolen .

The bottom line are, that the only Win Win situation for laptops , are to be used , by the extra software that came with , or even to add better one , if you need it .

i use my laptop more now than my pc, and go from house to house setting up mostly wifi networks... and i don't use the acer software because im used to windows xp/vista. but as Kiria has pointed out, we can't all be geeks.
the acer software is useful for the novice.
That's why i sayed earlyer that im glad the novice posted before he/she went deleting software. :D

I am building a database of bloatware. Not only can it help you decide if the program is needed or not but will sometimes recommend alternative less bloated programs.

    Check it out, www.computerbloatware.com

Take eRecovery, Launch Manager, Arcade Deluxe.
Uninstall the most stupid stuff called eDatasecuirty Management.
THIS RUBBISH can cause discomfort/clash of softwares. Uninstall it for the sake of peace.
