    Hey Guys,

So recently I have had a friends computer's CMOS battery die on me. It is an Acer 5920 and I have already ripped it open only to find the battery with no writing on it :(

So after contacting Acer support they have told me so give them $200 to fix it or $100 to talk on the phone for half an hour... So Acer techsupport sucks and I or anyone I buy computers for will not be getting an Acer anymore :)

So if anyone knows the CMOS battery model I would most appreciate it :) I know it is a Varta something.... but its hard to ebay a something :p

    Thanks Guys!

CR2032? maybe. That's the standard cmos battery in most computers.

If it's a coin cell the number is related to the size. Is so measure it and compare to standard sizes available.
CR2032 as Lucida mentions is 20mm diameter and 3.2mm depth.
Post a picture of it if it's some other shape :)

... thats just it I don't know if it is a 3V. I was hoping someone had some idea. I know it is a Varta, and I know it is a Lithium (not Lithium Ion).

Lol I don't want to rip the laptop apart again to find the numbers, I thought I wrote them down the first time :(

And as for rechargeable it would have to be a Lithium Ion, and it is merely a Lithium battery cause I remember researching that when I first ripped it apart.

    Thanks for the help :)

It is most likely a CR2032 3volt at least that's what desktop use, as long as it is 3volt the size does not really matter, it just affects how long the battery lasts, just make sure you get the polarity right.

so what you're saying is that every kind of round 3v battery should work on any laptop motherboard? is there no difference with desktop cmos batteries?

Format: 20mm (diameter). Isn't that too big to put in a laptop?

    that would be awesome :)

    Thank you for your help.

I'll buy one of those batteries and open my laptop to replace it.

Just make sure you cover it in electrical tape so it does not short out on anything.

I opened the whole thing yesterday, just to find out the type of CMOS battery.

I'll order one next week, but I don't really know how to fit it in the special casing.

in my pictures you can see the type of the battery. Probably the only place on the internet where you can find out :p (I also posted it on another forum)

the only thing that bothers me is that I measured the voltage of the CMOS battery and it still said 3,2 volt... But a friend of mine told me that this isn't conclusive to tell if a battery still works or not

The ML 1220 appears to be an rechargeable battery, so you will need to replace it with a rechargeable battery, not a standard lithium no-rechargeable as i previously recommended.
