So I basically used my webcam every night with Skype to talk to my friends. The very next day, it stops working. Ive literally tried everything. In the device manager, I have an "Unknown Device" listed as a USB. Im 100% sure this use to be my Camera.

I just used the Acer factory CDs to reinstall my OS + Drivers. All the drivers were successfully installed with the exception of the Camera Drivers (because the computer doesnt see a camera)

I tried to download the drivers from the Acer website but (both Chicony and Suyin) and everytime I try to install them a error comes up that says "Camera not found!" I have a laptop so I have no clue how its not finding it.

I really need help, ive been working on this for hours now and its really getting frustrating. Here are the things ive tried, and if someone knows a solution or a different method I havent tried to fix it, PLEASE let me know

    My methods:

    1. Reformatted computer using Acer recovery discs
    2. Downloaded and tried to install drivers from acer website (camera not found problem)
    3. Put windows in Safe mode, uninstalled unknown device, restarted computer to let it automatically scan/update (still failed)
    4. Deleted all pictures from My Pictures
    5. Tried using Windows Vista drivers and setting to Vista Compatibility mode (I have windows 7), no avail
    6. Uninstalled and reinstalled Unknown Device (aka camera) driver, didnt work
    7. Tried the windows update software option, windows said everything was fine (pshhh).
    8. Uninstalled unknown device, used the option "scan for hardware changes" still didnt work
    9. Installed skype to see if the webcam would be recognized, which it wasnt.

Can anyone PLEASE help me? You'll truly be a lifesaver

    Thanks,

    -Christian

We need the Hardware ID of the unknown device.
Go Device Manager >> Unknown Hardware >> Device Properties >> Hardware ID.

I go to Device Manager, right click Unknown Device, click properties, click the Detail tab, Under properties I select "Hardware Ids"

    It says:

    Value:
    USB\UNKNOWN

Is this what your looking for?

    Thanks for the response.

    Something like this:
    USB\VID_04F2&PID_B044&REV_1114
    It is the hardware ids.

I uploaded the 2 photos. The first one is the Hardware IDS, which still says Unknown (maybe i'm missing something?) and the other picture shows the other property options (General & Driver)

Can you check you have all the drivers installed?
    Chipset drivers especially.

I have checked and I have all the drivers installed. I even showed hidden drivers and they all seem to have drivers installed also. The camera (aka unknown device) seems to be the only one having a problem.

Alot of Acer users have been having this problem, I was trying to find more solutions on the internet and there is just pages upon pages on google about people having the same exact problem. Some people say it could be a LCD cable problem, while other say you have to manually install the driver (Tried, but windows keeps saying its not compatible with x64 systems and I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Bit)

    Hi,

these webcams are usually operated with Windows standard drivers that are part of the operating system.

I guess, this is some hardware problem, unfortunately.

I would assume it would be a LCD cable problem. Is there anyway I could check for myself? Perhaps it came loose or something

    USB\VID_0C45&PID_6300 - Google Search

Sonix or Kye Webcam. You should be able to download the drivers for this from Acer support website.

Hm. Insert your drivers & application disc and see if there are additional drivers.

michael: there didn't follow a cd when i bought the computer. is it posible that a virus or something could have shut it down? and "removed" the hardware, so the computer wont find it? because the message is kinda clear: "The Acer Crystal Eye Webcam has not found! please plug in the Acer Crystal Eye Webcam and then run the installation again".

Arminator: i tried many times, but it tells me to plug in the camera and install it agian...

This is perfectly normal. You have to create that disc yourself using the Acer recovery software.
Normally not. There seems to be some mess in your drivers database. The webcam seems to be present hardware wise. What happens if you uninstall it from Device Manager?

Another option: get a live Linux system like Ubuntu, and install some webcam software like "cheese" there. This should rule out issues with your webcam's hardware.

Last resort would be a factory restore (in case your hardware is not faulty).

try manually install the driver or see if in root of see is C:\ACER\Preload\Autorun\DRV where all your notebook drivers from preloaded factory are for the creation of your drivers cd, and search for camera
