When I first used my new acer 5610Z I chose to make a backup partition and have since purchased a USB hard drive to put my backups on. My question is... Can I now format the D: partition and use it for other things ?

Acer Aspire 5610z,Vista HP, No problems with Vista... so far, but I'm learning Linux, just in case.

how/ what did you use to make that D :partition??

would be much easier to just burn the recovery Disks,,, using the Erecovery software.. then you can wipe the whole HDD

do you still have that HIDDEN PQSERVICE partition??

    later,

IF u are using vista u cud just backup all ur data that is on D:

    resizing partitions with Vista

    - Click on the Start Button and right click on Computer and select Manage.

    - Expand the Storage section and select Disk Management.

    - Then just right click on any partition and select either Expand or Shrink to change the size of the partition.

And remember since it is pertaining to the hdd....backup ur valuable data u have on C: as well....but it shud be fairly straightfwd....as windows introduced this functionality into their new os.... :p

I still have the PQSERVICE partition. I let the eRecovery management program make the D: backup partition. What I need to know is if the D: partition is a normal partition or some kind of special Acer Only partition that can only be used by the eRecovery program.

wish i could give you an honest answer...

but my system never gave me the otion to create the backup to a partition...
the partition might be some strange flavor (not NTFS or FAT) no matter, disk managment should be able to wipe it and then create an NTFS partition you can use for data..

if you still have the PQSERVICE partition and the eRecovery software... why mess with the D: partiton,,,, just run the eRecovery and BURN the RECOVERY DISKS...

that seems like the easy answer to me,

I have recently bought my acer 5315 and very rapidly my hard drive is full, only 10g left on it. someone has told me its the partition. Can anyone help me? I need to adjust the partition so it can use the D drive aswell as the C.

But I am totally computer thick and need a step by step idiots guide, lol. I dare not try anything incase I screw up my laptop.
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. The D drive has another 40g of space that I can't use because I'm not sure how to do it.

I have made all the back-up and recovery discs if that helps????????????

The D: is just another drive to store data on.

Basically Acer splits your hdd into 2. C: Acer and D: Data (or something like that). The idea of this is you can store all of your programs, windows etc onto the C:, then all of your personal data - photo's, music, video etc onto the D:. This is done in case you need to reinstall windows, it saves wiping your personal data.

You should be able to save straight away onto the D:, when you download a file, or save something, change the save location and it should save there. If you want to free up some space on your C: you can move some of your personal stuff onto the D:.

I have tried that but it doesn't give me the option to save to D, it only gives me the option to save to E :(
Its beggining to stress me out! Would Acer help if I contacted them direct?

Whoop Whooop, I have done it!!

After hours of research I came across the answer.
Going through disc management, I formatted the C drive and created a partition (in most cases this is allready done), then i deleted the volume on D drive and that allowed me to extend the volume on C drive giving me nearly 70gb of space. Of course I left the hidden partition well alone and I remembered to make recovery disc's first. Simple.......

I may be on here next week asking for help due to it going wrong, lol. But so far so good. xxx
