    Dear all,

I have an aspire 4930 laptop which came with Vista pre-installed. To cut a long story short I installed windows xp to replace this which has been a total disaster (although the system is still working). I would like to start afresh with vista so need to do a factory reset. I have no recovery CDs.

I can confirm that the hidden partition PQSERVICE is intact. I cannot however run the erecovery software from windows because it was lost along with Vista and as far as I am aware I cannot download a windows xp compatible version.

WinXP over-wrote the ACER MBR so the Alt-F10 command stopped working however I have used a live CD version of GRUB to boot to the recovery partition, sidestepping the need to restore the Acer MBR. When the vista partition boots up Acer eRecovery Management loads, however the "restore system from factory default" and "restore system from user's backup" options are both greyed out.

It has taken me weeks to get as far as I have but I am now at a dead-end. I just want my computer back to how it was!

If anyone has any advice whatsoever it would be greatly appreciated!

This is my first post on this forum, so hello to everyone!

I just "eRecovered" my 1410 Olympic edition. After powering it on I was pressing Alt + F10 and came to welcome screen of eRecovery. Everything went fine, process took about half an hour for full restore without backup. There are some minor language mistakes in the program (Slovenian translation), but as long as everything works as it should, I really don't care. So ... yeah, brand new system without any drawbacks or additional storage media.
I have to say though, Acer could do a better job in customising Windows version of eRecovery for netbooks. Obviously it's the same for every other model, so you can't really create backup discs since there is no optical drive and no other options. It would be nice if the program offered a creation of .ISO image on second partition.

    Thanks for the anecdote.

    My problem, however, remains unresolved
