Hi everyone I'm hoping somebody can please help me with a problem I have. My son has an Acer Extensa 2303LC laptop that his grandfather recently gave him. When it was given to him my Dad told us that he had been using it for a while when it was plugged into power because the battery would not hold charge. Today when my son was on it, it just made a funny sound and turned off. When we try to turn it back on the battery light indicator just flashes orange for a second and then it doesn't come on. Could this possibly be that the battery is completely had it. For info it is running Vista Ultimate and had been running fine. Thanks :)

Sometimes the battery shortens something and the notebook doesn't start even when connected to external power-source. test if it starts without the battery. If it doesn't you should probably test the PSU to make sure it works- either test the laptop with another PSU (if you had a matching one) or test your current one with a multimeter.

It doesn't start without the battery. What exactly is the PSU......power supply unit??? Is it internal in laptop or is the ac adaptor thingy that plugs into power socket??? Thanks for your help

PSU is the external AC brick- test it of you can.
It it's neither the PSU not the battery it's probably a mobo issue.
