I have 4420-5963. Wanted to use Patriot 32 GB SSD, but it does not boot from it. SSD works fine in my desktop, so I am thinking that a BIOS update might help. The only problem is whether Acer will do it...

If the BIOS does not detect the Card Reader, or does not support booting via the Card Reader, then it ends there.
Bootloaders work for HDDs, which get initialised by the BIOS at POST. Card Readers do not, and are initialised when the OS loads, through its drivers. So, a bootloader won't help you to boot via SD.

I'm having the same problem as bartus1 with a RiData 32 GB SSD. I'm using BIOS v1.18, what are you using?

Guys, stay on topic - this is about SD cards, the kind that digital cameras use to store photos, not SSDs.
And like Andy said, if your BIOS doesn't support it, you're out of luck. Maybe a USB boot would be possible?
