I just up-graded to XPpro from Vista home premium on my extensa 4420 with the AMD Athlon 1.9ghz 64x2 dual core chip.
I have a problem with the wireless card not wanting to work properly but what gets me is XP is only showing processor speed of 795mhz where it should be at least double that.
I downloaded the drivers from ACER for XP including the chipset ones.
has anyone else seen this problem?

When running on battery I'd expect the CPU to show roughly that speed as it underclocks to extend battery life.

Might also be set to run at lowest speed on mains power too, check the Acer power management software settings.
