just purchased the same laptop, with less memory and hdd space. so far so good.. ran it for a few hours so far...

Bought one for my wife tonight with the same processor. Only ran across a couple of negs. Had to decommision the Acer network management because Vista already has a network management system that worked otherwise I couldn't connect with my router. The other thing is the Acer laptop gets kind of warm when it's doing a lot of processing compared to my Toshiba that's running a Pentium M 1.6 ghz. Otherwise it seems like a really nice laptop and great value.

There are a few of us discussing this notebook here.....might give you a little more info. From what you say you'll be doing, this notebook would likely fit the bill but you might be a better judge of that if you already have a notebook doing this kind of work. I've never had a Fujitsu but my impression is they are very nice build quality and maybe a little higher end than Acers......but I've had a few Acers and have been pleased with them.

Yea, I got the same one but with 2 GB of ram. I am extremely happy with it and love the size. I have a previous ACER yet, Aspire 3003 with a Semperon processor. This dual core is far more responsive. From what you said, I would think this model will give you everything you need.

Yes, my mother has this CPU in her Dell INSPIRON. It works quite well, so I bought the 4420.

its a good laptop, great for the price, but i do have a couple gripes.
firstly, the built in mouse buttons and touchpad are crap.
low quality, and way too small.
secondly, the built in ATI Radeon has an unsatisfactory amount of options.
i mean, i installed riva tuner and couldnt even modify the digital vibrance.
overall, excellent laptop.
just make sure to buy a mouse.

I got mine, with 2gb of RAM, from Office Depot for $419. Even though this has now become and "old" model, I am very impressed by what I was able to get for so little money.
I had been very reluctant to buy a Vista machine (my wife's HP notebook runs very sluggishly with Vista) but now that I have had a chance to use this one for about a week, I think I may become a convert. This one seems to run pretty fast.
I like the slightly "fanned" keyboard, and I really like the fact that it has usb ports on 3 sides. -
I have had my Acer for about 3 weeks now and I have to say that I am just thrilled by how much I was able to buy for so little money. This thing is really a great deal. My wife is currently on her third notebook computer. The first two each cost about $1,500. The most recent one was about $900.
Acer Extensa 4420 opinion ?
