this was taken from a different page... but it may help you as well

The driver shows as a BCM94312 driver. If you have linux easy to find.
I downloaded the following from dell R174291.exe - ran it, ignored the fact it claims to be for a dell card (it is really a rebranded broadcom) and installed it.

It works and comes with the Broadcom wireless manager runnnig all I need.

    hope it helps

Thanks man, it works! I guess I tried that yesterday, but gave up when it said no dell components could be located. Today I just went into device hardware and reinstalled the driver from there.

    Thanks a lot

I am having the same problem discussed above... I wiped off vista and installed XP. When I installed the broadcom wireless drive using the update drive feature in the device manager it showed the wireless icon in the sys tray for a few seconds and even showed the available networks in my area. when I went in to put the pass phrase for my home network, it just spun for a while then it took away the wireless network icon in the sys tray and put a yellow icon on the wireless adapter in the device manager.

I followed the suggestion in this post about getting the driver fom dell. I unzipped it, got the error that it was not a dell compter and then tried to go into the device manager to update the driver with the driver that was unzipped by running the exe from the dell site.

The device manager says that it there is no driver that is better than the one currently installed.

Do you guys have any other thoughts on this? I was able to get the wired connection working with a little effort, but stuck here.

    thank

first try UNINSTALLING THE DRIVER... and removing/ uninstalling the device from the control pannel... then install this driver before restarting...

if that doesn't work AFTER REBOOTING .... try the steps below::::::::

try removing/deleting the WIFI from the device manager...or instead of UPDATING the driver the EASY WAY.. do this..

click update driver,, then click NO(don't let windows search),, OK.... then click INSTALL from list or SPECIFIC LOCATION,, NEXT... then click DON"T SEARCH I WILL CHOOSE A DRIVER TO INSTALL,, NEXT.... then click HAVE DISK.. and BROWSE to the LOCATION WHERE YOU UNZIPED THE FILES of the DELL EXE file.. or to the EXE file it's self..

I have tried everything, even a reformat and load of XP. I used the driver you included, and the one from the Dell. No luck.

I have a question... Did you load XP 64 bit or just XP 32? I am trying to use 64 bit. I have 32 bit XP disks and was going to give that a shot. If that does not work, I am just going to buy a wireless card / USB and call it a day.

    Thanks for the help.

    Good news for every one.
I did it. The problem of the sound that I have was because I have a Windows Sp3 instaled and the KB888111 is not compatible with it. I format the pc and installed a Windows XP Sp2 and , Bingo,....Works.....But then I have a problem with the wireless again.........How I fixed it. Just updating the Dell driver that i was downloaded ...Just download the Dell Wirelless 1395 WLAN MiniCard. . Download it at http://support.dell.com/support
I fixed the wireless by this way.Just look for the Dell Wirelless 1395 WLAN MiniCard.

    Enjoy!

Okay...I have the same laptop purchased from BB. Ran Vista for a day and hated it, so reinstalled XP Pro. Went through all the updates and driver installs from Acer Europe. But, to no avail, no wireless LAN yet. I tried installing both drivers (since I don't know which one I have), but neither worked. Tried the Dell drivers, but it says something along the lines that I don't have that hardware. I really don't have a clue what to do. Any help?

Seems that there are two types of wireless chipsets used in Acer Extensa 4420 (and 4120 as well). You will either have a Broadcom or an Atheros.

The driver for Acer Extensa 4420 Wireless Windows XP can be download and you will also find detailed installation guide on installing the driver in Windows XP too. Hope it helps.

I have an Extensa 4420 and found all the necessary drivers (my Divice Manager is clean now with all drivers successfully installed). Here they are:
I have an Acer Extensa 4420 that gave me major driver problems after I installed XP Professional but I found all the needed drivers after extensive searching. Here they are:

    LAN_Marvell_10.12.8.3_Vistax86
    Modem Agere v.2.1.77.9
    SMBUS v.5.10.1000.6
    Wireless_BCM4312_v4.170.25.12_XP_x32
    CardR O2 v.1.0.2.8
    intel_chipset_driver
    realtek_hd_audio_driver ( http://findfiles.com/list.php?string=realtek_hd_audio_driver.zip&size=25739086&db=Mirrors)
    6-11-pre-r300_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_38185 - (ATI driver)

I had a heck of a time finding these and didn't want everyone else to have the same problem.... good luck!!
