Hi, I got a Acer Extensa 4420-5239 in September 08 and now im running into problems. I want to upgrade my video card and RAM but i need to know if it even is upgradeable. If someone can tell me if it is and what Graphic cards and RAM are compatible with it that would be great. Also if it is upgradeable I was going to have the Geek Squad Upgrade it, if they can. Thanks for future replys!

The RAM should be upgradable to 4gb ddr2. I wouldn't take it to the geeksquad to upgrade it as it should be fairly straight forward to do and you will save money doing it yourself.

What graphics do you have. Just done a quick search for your model on google, and found the ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 on it. If it is then it's integrated so it won't be upgradable as it's soldered to the motherboard..

Cool, so the Ram can be upgraded. And Yes the ATI RADEON xpress 1250 is my video card...So that is not upgradeable...-_- great the main thing i wanted to upgrade too. Okay thanks for your help!

Edit: Would there possibly be a way to somehow take out the motherboard and replace it with a new one? So that i can upgrade it with a new video card? Is that something Geek Squad or anyone for that matter can do?

One other thing, if your running a 32 bit O/S, it won't be able to use the whole 4gb, it will only recognise and utilize between 3-3.5gb. This is the limitations of a 32bit O/S no getting round it.

That would depend on whether the model ever came with upgradable graphics, with an MXM slot. It would cost a fortune, new motherboard (not usually to cheap), plus a MXM graphics card compatible with your system (also not cheap). And you would have to upgrade your cooling system. Then pay for geeksquad to fit it. Probably be cheaper to buy a new laptop.

Not so - some motherboards still have the GPU soldered to it (i.e. Lenovo), and not everyone is on the MXM standard (i.e. Dell).
Acer only adopted MXM in the past two-three years.
Could happen, but getting the alternate motherboard is still gonna kill your pocketbook.
