After backing up my Extensa onto cd-rom I backgraded it down to XP-Pro since one of the software applications I have will apparently not install even with the compatibility wizard setup for XP.

Under the device manager, it lists a modem (Agere Systems HDA modem) that does respond when I do a "modem query" via the button there.

However, under the "Printer and other hardware" menu, it doesn't "find" that I have any modem installed.

Does someone have a clue? I don't really want to have to re-install Vista just to find out.

ps. I have re-installed the original Vista under Microsofts' Virtual PC. If I give it enough ram it will run at a walk. I needed it available incase I had a desktop support problem to solve for someone else. But the hardware drivers are "generic" so its no help for device driver issues.
