I would suggest not putting your email on the internet unless you like spam. No recovery partition on the Acer?

A recovery partition should be present on your HD. There is a key that you can press to access the recovery software immediately after powering up the laptop. Unfortunately I forgot which one.

    Dear Newbee,

We have the same unit but fortunately mine is still up and runnin. Nevertheless, I took the precaution to prepare for any eventuality if just in case it crushes.

When I bought it a year ago, I immediately made a back-up copy of the OS just to be sure. Fortunately, up to now I haven't got the chance to use the back up copy.

I can make you a copy of my back up disk (4 DVD copies, 4.7 Gig each) and send it to your place. Just tell me your address.

    REgards,
    Bob

    Hi Bob/granro01:
Not sure if it's okay to ask this here but I'm a little desperate. My son has the Acer 5620 laptop which recently crashed. We have a warranty through Best Buy/Geek Squad and they sent it out and apparently got it running again - but now they want me to buy a recovery disc to re-instalkl everything as I have no bac-up. At the least, I see I can purchase this from Acer for about $30.00 and install it myself, but I'd rather not give any more $ to Acer, or to Best Buy, so if you get this post, is there anyway we could set something up to get acopy of your recovery DVD's?!
Again, I'm really sorry to ask through the forum!
    Thanks,
    Peter
