    Hello People,

I need your collective wisdom for a moment if I may.

I don't normally lurk this part of the forum, but my wifes laptop has developed a strange problem.

Switch it on as normal and it hangs on the bios screen for a good 40 seconds plus. You can see the blue bar at the bottom of the bios screen reaches the 3/4 mark and hangs for a good 40 secs plus then straight into windows.

Previously the bios screen would be 10 secs

No problems with windows at all.

    Bios version 1.35 (newest)

Nothing has been changed on the laptop.

However since this problem the dvd drive has stopped. ie no way to eject. seems like no power getting to it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, I just saw the post. Glad you were able to diagnose it. I was going to say probably a defective HD or CD / DVD.

My Extensa 5620 s almost four years old and the DVD drive has recently started making wired noises. Probably going to die soon, too.
