The Acer Ferrari 3000 series latest edition, the Ferrari 3200 with an AMD 64-bit processor, is now available. In Taiwan that is, not the U.S. [!]

Can you customize Acer laptops? I'm often in Taiwan, but I'd surely want the 3400+ or the coming 3800+ instead of the standard 2800+. It sounds like a great machine with its 128MB 9700 and a 64 bit chipset, but 2800+ is too outdated.
-
this particular notebook is not going to be configurable. Acer does offer a varying amount of configurations on a model series and that's done by two letter/number extensions tacked onto the model series #, but they don't have an online purchasing site in which you can plug and play various options as you can on such sites as Dell/HP/IBM and so on. They're more like an EMachines player where you buy what's already been produced.

Any rumors on a 3400+ or 3800+ version?

The 2800+ isn't outdated, it's low voltage. I think you know this already from reading you posts in other forums Tron, but might as well tell the masses.
The new 2800+ low voltage runs on just 35W, less than the previous mobile CPUs. Also, it runs at 1.8ghz, as the 3200+ mobile before it did.
My question is the cache size. Some say it's halfed to 512kb from the 1mb, if it is this might cripple it some. -
Yeah, I posted that before I read about it using the new chips.
I hope some reviews come soon, but I saw that shipments have been delayed until after the 20th in the US.
You can't buy them here in Taiwan until June. The only people that have them here are the ESPN basketball hosts and a few high profile people. []
I still can't decide on the 3200 or waiting for the D470K with a 17" WUXGA screen. If the 3200 doesn't offer more than 4 hours of battery life I'll definitely wait for the D470K since it's much more powerful. -
Since ACer only lists 3 hours for the 3200, I doubt it'd pull 4. For that kind of battery life you'd have to go Centrino.
Realize that with Eurocom you're not going to have any reference what kind of build quality it will have. Also, keep in mind restocking fees when you buy a product you can't see (learned from an Alienware mistake myself). Lastly, hope you don't have dead pixels, they won't replace the monitor unless there is over 15. -
They raised the price $500 on the new configurator for an identical machine.
Perhaps I will still be looking at the 3200. -

^^Yup.
I'll probably go for the 3200 now unless the price drops back down and they let me purchase a zero dead pixel guarantee. Thanks for pointing that out. I don't have a problem with the restocking fee, but 15 dead pixels is way too many. -
And the scary thing is that's only for XGA. I'd be scared to find out how many you'd need on an SXGA+ or UXGA. Probably like 45 [xx(]

hey guys, i posted something in another thread, but just so you'll see it; how reliable is Acer?? they don't seem as high profile as other brands and i dont want to committ to them unless i know they are for real.
then again, i still have another 3 months before i have to pick a laptop
