The waiting is exciting. I know there is the new Acer Ferrari 3200 model arriving in May in Canada. We also just received the emachine M6807 at Futureshop in Canada.

First of all, hello to other members here, I have been a lurker and decided to jump in and participate[ :D]

I would like to ask all the members here which computer based on the AMD 64 bits computer should I choose the new acer 3200 with the new Radeon 9700 or the older emachine 6807?

Is the AMD chip worth my attention ?

or should I get the intel ?

    Anyways Please advise?

    Thanks[ :)]

I'd go for the Acer. Two reasons for that: looks, and the 9700.

    Sony GRT270-16.1" UXGA; P4 2.8GHz; 1GB RAM; 80GB HD; DVD+-RW; 64MB Geforce 5600; XP Pro

Thanks for your advise ![ :)]

    So you prefer the Sony GRT270-16.1" UXGA; P4 2.8GHz; 1GB RAM; 80GB HD; DVD+-RW; 64MB Geforce 5600; XP Pro ?

But what do you think about the AMD 64 ? the sony does not have it and is missing ATI 9700 which I heard is better than the Geforce 5600?

    So any comments ?
    Thanks

That Sony unit is part of his signature, so he's not recommending that. I too fall into the camp of, if the Acer is within budget, it's a no-brainer. The AMD chipset is fine, just runs a little more hot than Intel and usually sucks a little more power.

Brian thanks for clarifying for me!

So I am looking for future functionality and AMD is the only chip maker that has the 64 bit. So other than heat factor are there anythig else I should be aware of ?

What do you think of the new ACER 64bit with the ATI 9700 card?

Is the heat a concern ?

    Thanks

Do you need the 64 bit architecture? Most people don't...

As far as performance goes though, the AMD with the 970 would make for a very fast system. It will run hot, but there's not much you can do about that.

Hi Brian Thanks for your expert opinion so far !!!!!

Is the heat something I should worry about ? Would it cause problems ?

Yes I would love have the AMD 64!

Are there any other computer with similar feature that does not have the heating problem ?

I also love to play games with my laptop.

    Thanks[ :)]

It will def provide some great game playing, however you may not be able to play with it on your lap. Due to the heat, but it shouldn't damage the machine any just make it slightly uncomfortable to have it sitting right on your legs.

I've got a Ferrari 3000 (older model), and if I had to choose again I would go for the 1501, which has a ATI 9600 (64MB), an AMD 3000+ (64-bit) cpu, is sturdier build than the Ferrari laptop, and Cheaper. If you're on the road much, better take the 1501, if you're always on one spot, and like a flashy laptop, choose the 3200. For the heat also, 1501 (intake just abowe of the keyboard)is better planned than the ferrari (intake on the bottom). the only thing which is better on the ferrari series, is the keyboard outlay(natural), and of course the ram on the 3d-chip (128Mb). And of course if you like the color. But better think of upgrading to the 3y. warranty, because if you're unlucky it wel break down like mine, after only 3 weeks ;).
