    Hi,

I´m one of the many Ferrari 3400 users who have been very anoyed with the major heating problem it has. I tried all the tricks posted here earlier and searched the net, but nothing worked well for me. Finally I started to look for the cause of the problem myself. Came up with interesting results:

First I have had some problems with the Acer launch manager-program. Sometimes after restart the program crashed during Windows startup so that processor useage was 100% all the time and computer was totally messed up. This was the true source of all the heating problems with Ferrari 3400. When Launch manager crashes it messed up AMD processor drivers so that they aren´t working ever again after the first Launch manager crash! In other words the processor is being used at it´s maxium clock even if u aren´t doing anything with the notebook - fan is on maxium all the time and the notebook is heating very much.

I formated my OS disk ( think it´s the only way to get the AMD drivers working again ) and installed everything from the start EXCEPT acer launch manager and WOW!! This is like a new laptop! It´s almost unreal how cool and quiet the machine is now after everything works like its supposed to. Fan is only rotating slowly or not at all in desktop use. The heating of the whole machine has gone down to very acceptable level.

Hope this helps other Ferrari 3400 users too!

Cool! My friend had one and sold it because it was too hot/noisey... oh well too late now, I dont think he ever tried that. I like the old ferraris (up to the 4000) better than the new 5000, I really am not a big fan of the swivel camera its so big an unnecessary and makes it look so clunky, its not like people take a ferrari to class and record lectures with it...

Yup....Launch Manager has done this to me many times. It seems Acer should spend a little more time on this program so that it doesn't tank systems so easily. Anytime I boot up and don't have everything loaded inside of a minute or two, it is always Launch Manager that is at close to 100% of the processor.

...and not only does the Launch Manager crash, but it crashes AMD´s processor driver so that the whole machine becomes unstable and overheating. I find it unreal that they haven´t fixed this as 90% of fr3400 users have overheating problems.

How do we know if the AMD driver has crashed or not?.... I think mine is working okay, but it does get hot, .. i know that is normal, but im curious. The reason I think my AMD driver is working is because my CPU steps, ie, it cuts down to only 800Mhz when not doing much.

If your CPU goes down to 800Mhz, then I think you don´t have the problem with AMD´s drivers. Mine was stuck to 2000Mhz all the time even if totally idle.

I came across this tread searching for ways to fix a heating problem. I used to be able to play a game (sailing) on my laptop just fine. Recently I've been having problems. After a few minutes my screen start flickering and after 5 min the machine shuts down and it's very hot. Could this be related to what is discussed in this topic? How do I disable the launch manager?

    Thanks in advance.
