I have been reading these forums for about a month now and have come down to 2 laptops, both Acer's that I want...I really like the Acer Travelmate 8100 but I fear that with the release of Windows Xpx64 bit that the ferrari will be more upgradable, and faster with the 64 bit operating system...what do yall think? I need help here, I am going to be using this laptop for everything, including online gaming...also plan on getting the extended warranty from CDW...thanks ahead of time! I also would like to know which screen looks better...

Get the warranty extension from Acer, not CDW. It is $125 to upgrade to three years on Acer's website. You do have to buy within the first 30 of purchase. The 8100 is a fast machine. Just because Microsoft somes out with a 64 bit operating system does not mean you have to use it. Longhorn, Microsoft's next operating system will run fine. There are too many 32 bit machines out there for them to leave them out. I had a beta version of it running on my old Compaq with a Mobile Athlon 2800+. It ran fine. You'll get better battery life on the 8100. Good Luck.
I know things, things that could get me killed
Thinkpad T41:
* 1.6Ghz Pentium M * 768Mb Memory * 40Gb Hitachi 7200RPM * Panasonic UJ-845-B DVD+RW * -
Go with the 8100, its a newer machine. The amd64 is a relatively new 64bit chip, and no major os has been released for it, so it will probably not run well, with a new 64bit os. Like every other new technology. 32bit is trusted and will probably still continue for a good four years.

Definately the TM 8100! The F 3400 has no wide screen! Since you want to game it is likely that there will be many new games that benifit from wide screens (now that they become popular) long before the market switched to 64bit at the CPU and OS level.
Then don't forget the Intel 915 chipset in the 8100 series. Support hardware for display is embeded in the chipset and is many times faster then an AGP 8x!
Then last but not least, I don't see myself travel with a RED Laptop. It attracts attention and make it a more potential target to get stolen. Certainly the little Ferrari logo on it adds to it! But that is a matter of personal perception of course.
Good luck!

I had the smae thought process. Initially the Ferarri had me ..having it stolen was not too much of a concern for me. By the time the Windows 64 bit is stable and mainstream , by the time all the developers have ported their applications to take advantage of the the 64 bit architexture .. you will be asking yourslef do I want the Acer 8600 or the Ferarri 4200 [

I went with the Acer 8104. -
