Hi, my apologies if this comparison has already been discussed, if so please redirect me to the thread, thanks. I couldn't find such one using the search.

I'm would like to get a notebook and I'm pondering over these 2 systems.

At CanadaSys I think they have pretty good prices and I'm looking at the z71V:

    Asus Notebook Z71V

    Free Case Logic Sleeve

    Centrino - 1.73G( 740 ) $1399
    Centrino - 1.86G( 750 ) $1448
    Centrino - 2.00G( 760 ) $1513
    Centrino - 2.13G( 770 ) $1673

    512M DDR2 ( 512M x1, Dual Channel Supported )
    60G 5400rpm 8M HD( Upgradable to SATA HD )
    DVD & CDRW Combo Drive
128M nVidia 6600 PCI Express Video
    Wireless-G & Gigabit Lan
    15.4” WSXGA+ ( 1680x1050 ) / Carrying Case
( The optical drive bay Supports module hot swap function and 2nd HDD/2nd Battery )

Photo | More info | Review | Benchmark

    --Upgr to 1G/2G DDR2 Dual Channel..$70/200
--Upgrade to DVDRW ( 8x Dual Layer ).....$70
    --Upgrade to 60G / 80G SATA...........$40 / 70
    --Upgrade to 60G 5400rpm 16M................$15
    --Upgr to 80G 5400rpm 8M / 16M.......$20 / 40
    --Upgr to 100G 5400rpm 8M / 16M..$120 / 100
    --Upgr to 7200rpm 8M 60G / 80G......$90 / NA
    --Extra Main Battery..............................$139
    --2nd Battery ( in optical bay )............ ...$139
    --2nd HDD Housing ( in optical bay).........$55
    --2 more year extended warranty............$139
    --Windows XP Home / Pro..............$99 / 165

I'd take the upgrades to bump it to 2.13 GHz, 1GB RAM, SATA HDD, likely dual layer DVDRW, and WinXP.

Two things that would prevent me from getting the Asus z71V are:
    1) To my knowledge, the Centrino's don't run 64-bit microprocessors, while the Ferrari 4005 runs the Turion 64.
    2) Have they fixed the screen issue from the z70Av - red ghosting, lines, etc.

The Ferrari seems to me like the safer choice right now, given the 64-bit micro, superior screen, and it's still high-end at 2.0 GHz and runs like a charm (buddy in my residence has one). The only thing is that it costs a bunch more at around $2300 CAD, whereas I could put together the Asus for around $2000 CAD.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

As I mentioned, it's going to be pretty biased, I'll move the ASUS post of this to the Hardware forum, should have more opinions and replies there
