I like how it looks, and I like the system specs.

I understand that the price is a bit inflated, but is it a good laptop? Is it just fluff with a pretty case, or is this thing as good as Acer would have us believe?

I have read a few reviews, and they have all said that it's a good laptop, but I'm looking for opinions from people who actually have one and use it regularly.

I think it's a good laptop, but I personally could not justify the huge price jump just for the Ferrari name. You could get an identical laptop for $600-800 less I would think. Maybe if you're a Schumacher fanatic, something like this might be worth the extra dough to you though..

I will move this to the Acer forum since that is where owners of the 5006 will most likely see it.

I had a 4005 and really liked it. It was solid and performed great. The new one is a lot faster.

It was better made than the TM 820x series IMO - it had a nice rubbery coating that felt richer than cold hard plastic.

The Turion X2 in the 500x is only marginally slower than Core 2 Duo in benchmarks. I think there is a problem with SuperPi (which explains why Turion X2 chips take such a beating). A comparable model to the Ferrari would be the LG S1.

I have seen 400x series model selling for very low prices since the new models have come out. In particular, the refurbs are agressively priced.

Thank you, that's quite helpful. Why did you get rid of your 4005, if you don't mind me asking?

Boredom - I never keep any gadget very long.

I don't mess with my work notebook - everything else is fair game. :D

I do harbor some regret about getting rid of the Ferrari.
