Hope one of the experts can help me to resolve a screen flickering problem please.

I bought this netbook in the UK where I live and am very happy with it. Internet connections are fine - both wired and wireless. However, I like to take this netbook on my travels and again, no problem apart from recently in the USA!

When I was in California and Nevada last month, I stayed at 7 different hotels (Marriotts, Sheratons, Mirage LV and Loews). I connected thru each hotel's paid for internet connection (wired) and also used the wireless connections in the lobby. In every instance, when connected to the internet there was considerable screen flickering on each and every page.

I have never experienced this before with other notebooks/laptops. I am not making any adjustments to the netbook settings as I have not done so previously.

The netbook has Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit, 250 GB HDD, 3 GB Memory, an ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics Adaptor, AMD Athlon 64X2 dual core L310 (1.2 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache), WLAN Acer Nplify 802.11b/g/Draft - N

It is probably something incredibly simple that I should have done/not done but would be grateful for some direction before my next visit!

It is the waves that government uses to control the people here.

But seriously, have you flashed latest BIOS (3110)?

Thanks OxDEADBEEF and altecX for your welcome replies.

According to the System Information tab,

    1. BIOS Version Date: Phoenix Technologies Ltd v 3104 2009/09/15
    2. SMBIOS Version: 2.5
    3. ATI Radeon HD 3200 Driver: 8.631.1.0

On the ACER UK "support" site, it shows two further BIOS Versions, 3109 (2009/11/17) and 3110 (2010/01/26) BUT with the following warning:

Updating an incorrect BIOS may cause harm to your system. We recomend that you only do this after being instructed by one of our Customer Care representatives. By using these updates you agree to accept the possibility of product failure.

There seem to be quite a few scare stories on various fora re updating ACER BIOS and it would appear from the above that ACER actively discourage BIOS updates.

The ATI Radeon HD 3200 Driver, 8.631.1.0 is the latest driver according to Acer.

ACER Tech Support UK do not inspire a lot of confidence especially to a real novice. They say that "it cannot be a hardware problem because your netbook works properly in the UK". They continue "Call our (premium rate) software support and they might be able to help"!!!! I have not done this yet.

Hope this additional information helps you as I am really unsure what to do for the best.

I have never had problems updating BIOS in any of my computers and laptops. With laptops it is even safer because they have battery so there is no risk of power failure while flashing BIOS.
3110 on Acer website has some note about fixing something with LCD so there is a chance it will fix your problem.
You can also download latest Mobility drivers from ATI website.
