Well got this 1680, with the folio design and everything and i must say im prety much happy with it. It's got everything and is quite stable. Except that recently i found out something strange, and its got to do with the build quality or the designing of the casing or watever you call it. Well Acer has the rubberized grip like thing on the back of te laptops for holding it firmly and that the lappy does nt slip away when one is carrying it. But has anyone noticed that when you hold the laptop from the behind like you would a folio or a book like taking a grip keeping the palm on top of the lcd case and the fingers going underneath, the lcd actually bends down from the middle and theres a lot of flex. So much that I get scared sometimes the LCD might get cracked! Hence whenever i move it i have to hold it from the back right corner where the hinge so as not to put pressure on the middle and risk a crack. So i dont see no use of the frictionized GRIP acer has provided in the folios coz u risk bending the LCD! I checked a couple of other lappy s from other brands and the lcd screens are really so table and firm and no flex at all. and u can grip it from anywhere u like. Has anyone noticed this on their acer folios? or is it just me and on my 1680?

I can't comment specifically on this, but personally I'm to wary to trust any "part" that a notebook manufacturer would put on a notebook to offer grip and hold in a certain location. I always carry a notebook under my arm (as long as it's small enough) or cupped in my hand. I've seen too many grips glued to technology products and know that every part has a point of failure, and if you happen to swing a notebook too hard and that part of the notebook you're holding onto comes off, well, let's just say laptops don't fly too well through the air... Thats exactly what i am saying, I cant even carry it under my arm cupping it in my hand coz when i do so the lcd casing bends(has a flex) from the middle from where iam holding! You just get the feeling if you put a bit more pressure and it might crack so you ve got to cup it from the corner! Weird!

Get a backpack or something to hold your laptop securely instead of actually carrying it with your hands, a lot safer and less chance of damage.

I know some people are more mobile with their laptops than I am but they probably change LT's every few years or their companies pick up the tab for them so they can be a little more rough with their computers. I don't have a few G's to blow every few years so I'm very careful with mine, almost anal to a point.

Remember the review I did of mine a while back? Guess I should've put in a word about the rigidity of the case. Yes it is a little bit flimsy (like the drive bay door I mentioned) but remember the LT is priced pretty decent for the amount of hardware it offers so maybe Acer didn't put the components in a super rigid case (some laptops have carbon fibre or titanium cases Asus is one that comes to mind......$$$$$$$).

Personally I would handle my LT as little as possible while moving around. It goes from my backpack to where I would use it and back to my backpack when I'm done using it, that's it. I don't walk around with it under my arm or anything like that for any amount of time and I handle it as gently as possible, think of it as a little baby you have to take care of it and be gentle. Sounds gay but remember your life is its life, it's a large investment owning a LT.

Well I do have a have the Acer luxury leather carrycase, but its just not possibele to put the lappy inside the case everytime I am moving from one room to another or going downstairs the garden or by the pool or watever, come on! And hey wat really botheing is that acer gives out this grip like design and the its when you only grip it that way that you get the flex! I dont care if other lappys come with titanium or watever but no lappy should get a flex like bend when you are carrying it around, specially around the place where they give a grip!!! And laptops are supposed to be moved around thats why they are called portable computers! I ve seen cheaper lappys than this having more durable casings! Anyways is there any acer pro s in here who could address this? By the way this lappy certainly rocks!

I wasn't talking about moving around a room or going d/s sure for that just carry it maybe be more cautious that's all. The way you were descripting moving around with your LT I was talking more like walking around outside from one place to another (from one hotspot to another for ex.) and personally if you're just carrying it around holding on to it with your hands, you're asking for trouble. Someone could bump into you, the laptop could slip out of your hands etc etc not a good way to blow a couple grand seeing it disappear into a million pieces.
