    Acer Inspire 1690

    My laptop has just died without warning ..... when you boot it up you see the Acer / centrino screen then it goes blank - guess the hard drive / windows is not booting up. Any idea what might be wrong - it hasn't been dropped or mistreated ?

    It does sound like you have a hard drive issue with your machine; does the unit stay on the acer splash screen for a long time? if so thats another indicator of a bad hard drive.
    You may want to try a system restore anyway cos it may be just windows going bad.

    take out the memory and clean the contacts, if that doesn't work try another stick of memory. Hope that works.

    Cowboy,

    I have same issue it sounds like. Freaked out about it too. My soon to be ex wife has my recovery disks as well. No help there, she's holding them hostage. Did anything work? I don't even get the Acer splash screen, so I don't know if the recovery disks will work.
