    Hi All,
I just oerdered my 3201xci from newegg. After a lot of deliberation and help from this forum. Thanks to all for then help!! Especially Venombite, who seems to be the Acer man.
I am wondering about the extended warranty? Is it worth buying?? I am heading to S.E. Asia for the Winter, at least. Acer seems to have service locations everywhere. I have been to their website but still confused about what's covered when? Anyone have any experience here? They offer a 2yr for 124. and 3yr for 280. Thanks again and will let you know how I like the machine. Jim

    Hi Jim,

Thanks for the kind words. I'm a big fan of the Acer products and try to get as much info on it as it will most likely be my next unit (3201 or 4501) when the budget allows me.

Regarding the extended warranty, I personally recommend people to get the extended warranties that the manufacturers offer, not the one provided from the stores. These usually require you to deal directly with the shop that sold it to you, not anywhere around the world like the manufacturers warranties.

Here's a list of all the extended warranties they offer for their desktops and notebooks. The notebook warranties are at the bottom of the list.

    https://secure.tx.acer.com/findsystem/ExtendedWarranties.aspx

These are the ones available in the US:
    EW.DP004.300 PARTS ONLY WARRANTY 4 YEARS $100.00
EW.NA002.200 EXTEND NOTEBOOK WARRANTY ANOTHER 2 YEARS $124.00
EW.NAT03.200 3 YEARS TOTAL NOTEBOOK PROTECTION BUNDLE $280.00

I believe the Acer 3 Year Total Protection Bundle also offers Accidental Damage Protection. This is indicated in the Terms and Conditions.

    https://secure.tx.acer.com/findsystem/ExtWarrDetail.aspx?prod_id=1-1EKWCM

This is probably what I'd recommend going for since you'll be travelling with the unit. At minimum, I'd go with the 2 year extension, this will cover parts & labor but no Accidental Damage. The 4 year parts is the lowest option to go for, but at least it'll cover the parts, which will probably be the most expensive compared to labor charges.

I was looking at the terms and conditions and the following is mentioned..

"If you purchased an AcerAdvantage Extended Service Plan and are located in the Continental United States (fifty (50) states and the District of Columbia), Canada, or Puerto Rico (service in Puerto Rico subject to restrictions, please call (800) 816-2237 for further information), you are entitled to repair service during the term of this Agreement subject to the following terms and conditions:"

There is no mention of what to do if you are overseas. Is this warantee extension truly covered overseas? Thanks

From general consideration. I do not think they will cover repairement overseas. The parts and labor are very different in each country. May be Acer's International Traveler's Warranty would be a choice for you although it is not perfect either.

Here's the link to Acer's International Traveler's Warranty page.

    http://global.acer.com/support/itw.htm

This doesn't extend the warranty for your local country of purchase, just extends your overseas warranty so you can get it repaired if you're away from North or South America.

I just wish they had a complete International Warranty like HP. It comes standard with a 1yr International Warranty, if you buy the extended warranty, it'll jump it upto 3 years of International coverage. You don't have to buy 2 different plans.

Well I finally got around to caling ACER on this issue and of course I should have done so in the beginning. Seems there's no extension available for the International warranty. It comes with one year and that's it. I didn't believe the first guy so I called back and a woman told me the same. I was totally confused by the website info. One of the main reasons I chose the Acer over the Dell is that there were so many more service locations where i spend most of my time in SE Asia. Oh well, everything else is good except for the touchpad being a bit "touchy". I'll try to be gentle

same with my touchpad, i found it annoying when using word so , all you have to do is change the settings in mouse in control panel, click hardware-properties, and change the sample rate down to 80%, the touchpad is less senstive, but good for normal use...

the pad is soo sensitive at 100 percent that moving an object over it makesthe pointer go crazy :p

I emailed Acer about international warranty before...

The lady said that TRAVEL warranty is only for travel...I.E if you are only going to be at the foreign country for less than 3 months. If you are residing in the foreign country for more than 3 months, the warranty does not apply. I know this sounds stupid but that's what she said. Maybe someone with experience wants to counter this? (pls? [|)])

Maybe this is only for my country, but international travel warranty seems to be international anyway...
