Hello everyone ... I have a question. When searching I did not find an answer. I am hoping you can help. I have an acer 5733z-4851. I did a full hard drive image back up last week with acer back up manager. The one that says.. "IMAGE MY DRIVE.. Make a complete image backup of your drive" and put it on a separate external hard drive that i have.

Anyway... made the backup and this week the mouse pad went bad on my 5733 and i had to take it to the shop. Because they have to order the part it wont be done for about 2 weeks. So here is my question. I have another acer laptop its a 5250-bz467 that we dont use. Can i take the back up from my 5733z and restore it on my 5250?

If not... can i swap hard drives till my 5733 machine gets fixed?

Please let me know what you think?

    Thanks X

Both come with Windows 7 so there is a chance that there won't be any license issues.
It's hard to tell what Acer backup manager checks when it comes to restoring a backup - maybe noting or maybe it does check if it's the same hardware although it doesn't make much sense to do such a check.

I would swap HDDs if I were you - that's far easier and less time consuming. You will know if it works within minutes. Some drivers will not work due to differences in hardware so you might have some issues at first launch but that should be fairly easy to resolve.

My personal record was moving the same Intel SSD with the same Windows 7 install between 5 laptops. All it required was uninstalling the old drivers and installing the new drivers. I did not get any errors.

Not sure if restoring an image would work the same way though.
