Ok,I'm thinking of purchasing a Gemstone Blue laptop 6920G but I've been vacillating between paying for the Best Buy 3 Year Extended Warranty(which cost approximately 289$) or the the manufacturer's one (cost more or less 199$).Do both of them cover screen defects such as dead pixels, color alterations and whatnot. Additionally,if I were to select the Acer on-site warranty, would I have to pay for shipping if something vile were to occur to my laptop?
Thanks
EDIT: I live in Canada.

get a on site warranty

Thanks! -
ah Canada ah.
First off Acer's default warrenty requires you to pay shipping.
Second I don't think acer has 'on-site' warrenty. link?
Acer has a 'total protection' warrenty which 'covers' everything except intentional abuse and batteries.
I have a very extensive history with acer and because of it I don't recommend there products.
just a few things to note are:
-Acer Does NOT have 24-hour phone service
-Acer is noted for long wait times on hold(I know)
-From my experience the average Acer repair takes 2-2.5 weeks but have been longer.
-Acer's repair center is in Missisaga ON. and every thing gets shipped there.
on a good note though most acer's are good and if you get a 'good' one it will work forever (except there HDD's) if you get a bad one you will send it in again and again until you scrape it or demand a replacement by call down to Texas...
if you do get Acer's warrenty make sure you activate in 14days and then call and confirm that is correctly activated, I had issues with this...
Acer Canada phone # 1 800 816 2237 (I have it memorized)
I recomend bestbuys warrenty as I think they have 3-strikes your out warrenty(as in they replace it if it breaks 3 times) acer doesn't have that and it is VERY difficult to get a replacement out of acer. -
i am thinking of buying the 8920 at bestbuy do they have that service? and also where in mississauga is the repair place?
-
If you are really set on getting an Acer, I would go for the Best Buy warrranty due to their 3 strikes clause. Based on my experience, there is a good chance you will use it.

- Performance guarantee: Not working up to standards? Bring it in.
- No lemon: 3+ repairs? In-store credit towards any laptop.
- Can't fix? See above.
- 60+ days to fix? See above.
- 100% parts, labour, shipping, etc.
- Worldwide
- Power surge
- Transferable
- On-site: Bring in to any Best Buy, they fix it on site.
* In the 1st year, they have to send it to the manufacturer due to legal reasons, however all the other benefits still apply.
For the extra $$ I think it's definitely worth it, especially if you're getting an extension in the 1st place. None of the above is covered by Acer. -
