Hi! This is an awesome mod, but it is not turning on the RAID option for me. Everything else is OK, but this option is missing :(
I've the original 320GB HDD and now a new one in my laptop...

Thank you very much for your work!

    Regards,
    John

it seems that the Intel PM965 Express Chipset can have two different ICH8 IO controllers: Compare Intel® Products,
maybe mine has the lower one without RAID ? OMG I just bought 2 WS scorpion black HDDs... :(

    ( Update 11 April 2011)
This is modified BIOS image for Alienware M17 & Arima W840DI. It is based on original BIOS 840.029. Use at your own risk!
    1. Unlocked hidden options: Alienware M17 Arima W840DI 840.029 MOD.rar

UPDATE (R2): I have revised the modified BIOS image for Alienware M17. It is still based on zfactor's 029 BIOS. I have created two modified BIOS image:-
    1) Alienware M17 W840_029 zfactor VT MOD R2.rar
    - Unlocked "Workaround Control Sub-Menu" which housed several sub-menu such as VT, EIST, etc.
    - Original Alienware BIOS splash screen.
    - Rebuild using PBE (Phoenix BIOS Editor).
    2) Alienware M17 W840_029 zfactor VT MOD R2_PST.rar
    - Unlocked "Workaround Control Sub-Menu" which housed several sub-menu such as VT, EIST, etc.
    - Rebuild using Phoenix SLIC Mod tool.
    - Only one module (BIOS setup menu) is different compared to the zfactor's 029 BIOS.
    - This modified BIOS image rebuild with all modules still linked to it's original offsets (based on zfactor's 029 BIOS). A couple of unimportant menu was removed to allow BIOS setup menu module fit in it's original offset. You can see the different on pictures below. This method so far is most safest way to rebuild BIOS image. Also the BIOS image is more "authentic" because it retain the original offsets.
Picture on left is the screenshot taken from the modified BIOS image no. 1. Picture on right is the screenshot taken from the modified BIOS image no. 2.
    [IMG] [IMG]
    phlash16.exe parameters:-
When I extract the 029_zfactor.rar file ( zfactor's 029 BIOS), I found several files including the zfactor's 029 BIOS image. The one file which got my attention is UPDATE.BAT. It is a DOS batch file which contain this:-
    Code:
    phlash16 W840_029.ROM /c /s /x /mode=3 /force
This file is use to flash the zfactor's 029 BIOS image into BIOS chip. I already include this file ( UPDATE.BAT) in both modified BIOS image packages.
Please make sure your notebook can recover corrupted BIOS with CRISIS disk before flashing BIOS with this modified BIOS image. I will not responsible for any problem. Good luck. :)

EDIT: This is original BIOS image (M17_B14) extracted from the ISO image:-

Hello to every one in the forum.
First of all, I've been reading about the nvram and the alloc positions and tokens thing posted before, but i reach a point where i can't get to unhidde or add more option to the bios, to get all features my chipset datasheets has.

Trying and trying, reading and reading has taken me lot of time, till i got to stack point, but learning now on assembly languaje so.

My notebook is acer Aspire 1694Lmi with DDR2 mem., an intel pentium M 760 codenamed DOTHAN 133fsbx15multiplier=1995Mhz Speed, on a Chipset intel Alviso i915PM/GM, and an ATI Mobility Radeon x700 256Mb DDR.

On the original bios, 3A45(M26) there are hidden option i have seen on String0.rom and with RW software.

RW sofware describes the options of 2.9v, 3.3v., and 5v, but the bit is set to 3.3.

Well in resume, ¿Is it possible to 1st, unhide all options my crane II supports, and 2nd, to add all features i915pm datasheets has?

Thank you very much for your time.

Here is the link to the bios: RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting

Any questions please let me know.

I can't add features which the original BIOS doesn't support. As for unhidden menu request, you need to have specific request. It will difficult for me to work on your BIOS if I don't know where to start. That is why you need to have specific request.

    If you like to learn:-
    - copy STRINGS0.ROM & TEMPLAT0.ROM file to new folder
    - open STRINGS0.ROM file with HEX editor & remove first 0x1C length of bytes. Save As to STRINGS.ROM
    - start tracing the offset from the STRINGS.ROM file (not STRINGS0.ROM)
Try to continue by yourself. Please ask me if you have any question.

    Hello @Kizwan,

    Thanks for replying.
I've done everything about the templates and searching for the offsets. Now i have already identified all the info. Main.Advanced, boot and exit offsets and cpu type and more. The problem i found in whre i get the offset, lets say:
11 0c.... bla bla, i dont know which bite shoul i change and how do i change it. ove been reading abou the tokens and nvram, but all ican do is jumping offset to find de strings and the allocs.

By the way, to be specific, i would like you unhide the speed step option as the AHCI option than this chipset can handle with.

Other thing tha i'd apreciate is an Advanced chipset features menu or this features:
Cpu multiplier: x6,x7,x8,x9,x10,x11,x12,x13,x14,x15 an their correlative voltage, like : 0,988 till 1,35v.

If kind, setting a fsb menu. from auto, 133, to open for inputting the desired fsb clock like setfsb software.

    thankyou

PD: i'd love you teachme how to unlock, unhidde and add options, like you posted in nvram to unhidde vt, to work with the free space the bios has, so i can do all my goals.

    Hello,
i got a PackardBell TJ65 (Acer Board) and i was looking for some bios mod that allows to reduce fan noise. Reading around i saw that is not possible or i'm wrong?
Anyway i opened my bios.rom in Phoenix BIOS Editor Pro and i noticed there is a "intel" menu (hidden?) with a lot of options.
Please, It's possible to unhide it?

Based on your CPU specification, it does have SpeedStep technology. So I will modify your BIOS for you. I'll post the modified BIOS image when it ready.

Please remember, I can't add any feature which the original BIOS itself is not supported. Not all features listed in Intel datasheet will be available as it depends on which IO controller it have & it also depend on whether the manufacturer want to implement it or not. It all depend on the original BIOS.

I'll try write a simple tutorial for you or anybody who want to learn on how to unlock hidden menu.

@freud666, none of your request supported by your computer BIOS. Your computer have very basic BIOS.
It is not possible to add new/more option. The BIOS image consists of many files & it is related with each other. If the option/feature you want but doesn't exist in any of the files, it is not possible to "add" it in BIOS. The only way is to re-write BIOS & this is not possible since we don't have appropriate tools & software.

FAN control mod request is not supported.

The Intel section is visible in PBE but it doesn't in real BIOS Setup Menu. There is no solution to unhidden it yet. The Intel section does "linked" to BIOS Setup Menu properly. That is why you can see it in PBE. Clearly the manufacturer put some control or function to prevent it from available to end user. The only solution is to move the menu from Intel to Main section but the numbers of menu we can unlock are limited to the space available at Main section. In this case, limited means only two to three menu we can fit in Main section. This & more reason why you need to have specific request.

EDIT: I'm not sure anymore. On wiki, this processor does have Virtualization technology, while on Intel website...they not so sure which is it. Anyway, according to your notebook BIOS, Virtualization is not locked, which means it is enabled by default. If your CPU does support Virtualization technology, you should be able to use it. To put this theory to test, installed 64bit OS in VMware. If your CPU does support Virtualization technology, the installation should be successful.

I might have to chance my CPU for some that will allow me to use Virtualization Technology. Do you have any suggestions? :)

I edited my previous post. If you can do the experiment, I think we can know for sure whether your CPU does support Virtualization technology or not. As far as I know, with the modified BIOS image, the Virtualization menu should visible if you have CPU with Virtualization technology.

How about other menu? Does SpeedStep menu visible or not?

This means your P7550 doesn't support VT. If you have extra money you can upgrade it to Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 2 GHz. :)

There must be an option, as it is disabled in the BIOS. Have you already looked if it's possible?

After days of searching, I managed to stumble upon this glorious thread. First of all, big props for all the hard work. Even if I can't be helped,

I was going through this thread and got to the end to see it was locked :(
Noticed someone with a Sony notebook had a BIOS modded for them.

I was wondering if it is at all possible to modify the bios for an ASUS W5FE?

Need VT-x enabled to test out Hyper-V as the BIOS has no options for it even though the CPU supports it. Not sure if it matters so much, but am running Windows Server 2008.

Original BIOS can be found at

If not, that's cool. I still appreciate the fact people are putting in the hard yards to enable things that should have been done by the manufacturer in the first place.

    Thanks.

The BIOS is by default already set the Graphic Mode to Switchable. So, the only reason the integrated graphic is not working or detected, it is disabled or not implemented on hardware level. Your notebook is using almost similar BIOS with Aspire 5740G (maybe same motherboard too). It also have the same issue.

Could you please send me the modded BIOS anyway? I'd like to have that Intel menu.
Or could you just send me the original .ROM file? Thanks dude!

It is original BIOS. I haven't modified it yet because this BIOS have same problem as Aspire 5740G have; PBE can't open the BIOS image without error. The Intel menu is there the whole time. It is hidden from end-user. I can unhidden it but I'm not sure if PBE can re-build the BIOS image successfully (meaning without bricking your notebook). I was going to modify it, just take my time to do research about it a little bit.

In the meantime, if you want to take a look yourself:-
    1) Download the BIOS image from packard bell website
    2) Extract it & go to DOS folder
    3) Open the PV50122.WPH file with HEX editor
    4) Split PV50122.WPH to three part:-
    - 1st 200000 length: 000000 - 1FFFFF: save it as PV50122_1.ROM
    - 2nd 200000 length: 200000 - 3FFFFF: save it as PV50122_2.ROM
    - 3rd: 400000 - end: save it as PV50122_3.ROM
    5) Open PV50122_2.ROM with PBE. At the first attempt, you will get "ROMEXEC not available!". Try open it again, PBE should be able to open it.
