    @ kizwan

Although overclocking seems to be not posible with my laptop, I'm very happy with the features you unhide. Now I have Extreme support, I can play with fan control, even with voltage , tough I can not check if it works.
Do you have any experience with DELL bioses ?
I need you to unlock hidden features, enable VT, wich is disabled. - if posible.
Laptop is Dell Latitude D620, CPU is T5600.
    Bios link : ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/D620_A10.EXE

    Thanks

I have read somewhere (forum - but I didn't save the link because it was last week) that Dell was offering this person a notebook replacement since his Studio XPS 1645 have problem. They offer him Studio XPS 1647 with similar specification which is i7-720QM processor. So, I don't think BIOS is a problem here. It just doesn't make sense for Dell to provide two different BIOS for Studio XPS 1647.

No big problem. I use this laptop mainly for car diagnosis. But it would have been good to have virtualization, since I run some programs in vmware.
You helped me a lot anyway.
    Thanks

Well, if it's not the TDP or TDC entries, can you see anything else in the screenshots I provided that might give a clue as to what is preventing this i7 CPU from working?

UPDATE, I got the laptop back from ACER repair, they ended up replacing the mainboard, so all is fine now.

I did notice that now the BIOS is version is 1.22, which is far off from what we were trying to load before(1.16), so maybe the bios file on acer's website was the wrong version, hence why it killed the BIOS to begin with......

Another thing I noticed that now in the BIOS, the manufacturer is listed as a GATEWAY, same goes for inside win 7. i wonder if they replaced it with a gateway board? not that it matters i am just glad it works again.

Thank you very much for all your help in trying to solve my problem few weeks ago, i greatly appreciate it!

    Hi kizwan,

I would like to request a 5942G BIOS mod.

I don't know if it is even theoretically possible to setup but it would be great if there was a hidden menu for turning off the CineBoost "feature" that claims to produce a more vibrant picture.
Its turned on by default and I am forced to change the setting on each reboot.. got used to it meanwhile but nevertheless it would be a nice enhancement.

If possible, it would be great to have the other options unhidden.

Thanks for your service and help.

    BIOS unmodified v1.05

I'm glad to hear that your notebook is alive again. Remember it is unnecessary to update BIOS unless your notebook suffer a problem & BIOS update can fix it.

Acer, Gateway, Packard Bell & eMachines are under the same company. I have seen Packard Bell notebook use similar motherboard which is used in Acer notebook. I guess Acer use Gateway motherboard is normal because it came from same source.

I need one Bit changed from 1 to zero but I want to to recompile the EC firmware completly.

Are you talking about embedded controller or ECC RAM? Anyway, I'm not familiar on both subject. Can you give me the link/website which explain/discuss on this particular subject?

I’m talking about the Embedded Controller.

I'm not able to give you a link to a site which discuss the topic in detail, because I don't know any.

For 2-3 years I was surfing trough the net to dig for a few facts about the EC. The topic was a fan control script.

The IC for the EC comes from many companies and all of them use different hardware structure and code. Only the interfaces are regulated (ACPI).

I'm not familiar with EC but I can tell you that you can try to control fan via DSDT (ACPI). You can look over here for an example. However it will only work with software controllable fan. I already tried this on my Acer Aspire 9420 & it cause the computer to run slow than it should be. I haven't look/research in detail about it but I believe it is because the fan is not controllable via software. It is like PLL chip with TME enabled, not supported via SetFSB.

    I know,

I was for 2-3 years searching for EC information to control the fan. Not now. ;)
It was working, but it differ on every model.

I've done some more testing with different settings in the BIOS and after what has to be two dozen CPU swaps, I have not had any more luck with getting the i7 to work. At this point, it's obvious that there is something preventing the computer from posting and I am convinced it's in the BIOS. Whatever that may be, it is beyond my technical skill and I have no inclination to pay Dell $120 on top of what I've already payed for the CPU, to have this installed.

Thanks to Kizwan for the work on the BIOS. :)

You may want to reconsider -Selling the i7 will make you lose about the same amount and you will always regret not having that CPU running in your lappy.
By the way, how much did you pay for it ?

I payed just shy of $400 for it. Was a boxed cpu from Newegg. I guess at this point, I'm just frustrated and I'm not convinced that Dell can actually do this. I keep thinking that I'll pay for a technician to install it, have the tech come out, and then find out that it can't be done.

And I tried to do it all the "right" way too. I called tech support first to make sure it was even possible. I made sure I was getting a boxed retail cpu and not an engineering sample or some used OEM cpu. And even after all that, I still have a 1647 with a core i5, and a boxed i7 that's never even booted properly.

    Hello kizwan!
Lately I've encountered a problem with memory on my Acer 5738zg, I don't honestly know from where it comes but all my DDR2 800mhz modules run as 667Mhz either in single or dual config. Because PM45 chipset supports 800mhz modules, I seek the fault is some weird BIOS bug. I've seen in your modded bios MCH settings like Dynamic FSB and directly below Option For System Memory Frequency. Could possibly one of these could be changed to introduce hard-800mhz or either some kind of FSB :DRAM ratio change? I'm pretty pissed because it works for other users, I highly doubt it's SPD problem since I messed around it a little. Currently FSB :DRAM runs at 3:5 so with 200mhz fsb I gain 667 memory bus.

    Mike

A little update on the topic.
FSB:MEM ratio on 1.25 and 1.28 ratio was 3:5 for my setup, however after downgrading bios to old version 1.13 made it 1:2, since gaining 400mhz(800 ef) on memory. The downside is that acer suggest upgrading bios to never version because of some critical faulty within bios and laptops manufactured in middle of 2009 which could end in supply adapter fire.

End of, if it would be possible to copy just the part of bios which control memory bus from old one to the newer ones?

It's T4300 on penryn-1m, I'd like to try PLL mod in future, it could product some more power since it lowest running penryn on market. Got 1.18 and 1.19 bios btw, gonna check those too!

Edit: Seems like 1.19 is working good aswell, then something between 1.19 and 1.25 got screwed. If you would be bored anytime and wish to unlock additional menus in 1.19 I would appreciate that. BIOS_Acer_1.19_A_A.zip

This will take some time to be done. :) Since I already modded BIOS for Aspire 5738g which use same BIOS file with Aspire 5738zg (all Aspire 5738 series notebook use same BIOS), it is not a priority right now. I have to do like this because I'm busy with my day work. Only new request will have high priority. I can't guarantee when it will be done. Stay tuned.

I found the preference offsets for each menu entry - both visible and hidden - and was able to change them inside the bios dump. The menus are still hidden. Thanks for the small motivation :)

Still no sign of CineBoost though ..

I'm fine, thank you. Yes, at Aspire 5740G thread right?

Aspire 5740G BIOS mod has been discussed before. sustmi has explained here how to unlock Intel section in BIOS menu without flashing modified BIOS image. I believe you can extract VBIOS using Everest. Another way is to extract it in linux. However, I didn't remember the exact instruction/procedure how to do it.

    Hello,

I'm new to the forum and have been reading a lot about the LT31 Bios modded by kizwan. I was wondering if anyone got the CRISIS disk to work on this laptop and tried out this new bios. I'm looking at the Bios in a Phoenix Bios editor and some of the options look promising, like changing the memory speed to 400mhz with DDR2 800.

    Thanks
