    @sunmorn69,

All of the options you requested (except VT) are not supported by your computer BIOS. I can't add new function, I can only unlock hidden option. I think you misunderstood about SATA. SATA controller support two modes; AHCI & IDE mode. By default if AHCI is not enabled, SATA controller works in IDE mode. After looking into your notebook BIOS, I believe AHCI mode is not supported. I already tried my best to unlock hidden options. I can't unlock all of them because there are scattered & not linked properly. There are not enough space for all of them. Sorry, there is nothing I can do about it.

None of what you want is available. It have very basic BIOS. Please don't ask for performance/overclock feature anymore.

I'll look into it later. For the meantime, make sure your notebook can recover corrupted BIOS with CRISIS disk.

I tried the V2 modded 5738G bios, suffered from severe BSoDs & lockup & boots at the ACER logo screen and sometimes it opens rerolled to 3 different versions of the original bios 1.25,1.28,1.16 but the problems persist ... I made a fresh windows install .... tried a gazillion new drivers for everything ..... tried to do the crisisdisk thing and it didn't work because I don't have a bad bios flash I assume ... I am planning on delivering the laptop to ACER tomorrow but I was wondering if there is anything I could do to fix this because ACER tech support in the middle east is a pile of Bull$*** & I don't trust them an inch

I think that will void the warranty since I will be opening the laptop case

EDIT: I already done that through the option in the bios and it didn't work .... I am refering to the small battery removal thing

    @Mahmoud,

Look like hardware problem since you already tried flashing BIOS with original image. That ruled out bad BIOS flash. Do you happen to write down BSOD error code. Just write down the HEX value which appeared at the bottom of the BSOD screen, just pay attention the first HEX value.

BTW, load BIOS default in BIOS is not the same like disconnecting CMOS battery. Disconnecting CMOS battery should discharge any faulty content in the NVRAM/CMOS. OR you can try this (if you haven't tried it); disconnect AC & battery, press the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any leftover electrical charge, connect AC only & tried booting into windows.

I did the power button thingie like a trillion times :D each time hoping for the best but didn't work out really I even removed the battery for like 15 minutes once of these times

as for the HEX value that damn BSOD appears and disappears horribly fast its like BOOM reboot!!!! is there a log I can check this stuff from ??

EDIT: Does my laptop have a separate one of these tiny CMOS battery ???

You can find the crash dump file in C:\WINDOWS\Minidump.
CMOS battery should be near the modem & bluetooth module.

there is no file with the specified name in my windows folder :( maybe due to the several reboots after the last crash .... as for the CMOS do I have to fully dismantle the laptop to reach because I always though bluetooth in most laptops is accessible without opening the main laptop and voiding the warranty ?

I'm afraid you have to fully dismantle your laptop to gain access to CMOS battery. Bluetooth & modem are usually not easily accessible. Try get another HDD & do fresh windows installation. It maybe just faulty HDD. If it doesn't solved the problem, you might want to check memory module.

Thank You kizwan, I am very interested to solve this problem, so please let me know.
As regard to recover with Crisis disk, I imagine that the procedure You describe in the page 1 of this forum (BIOS Recovery - Collection of CRISIS Packages & Procedures) is the good one so I will try before doing any further experiment.

Thanks alot for the help bro ... I already sent to to Acer support  it is extremly scary though because here they are famous for delays & crapy tech support but I had to do because my laptop is one of the hardest models to dismantle and I think as slow as they may be still they will be faster than me in solving the problem

Thank god Acer couldn't receive my laptop atm. because they are swamped or else they asked me to leave for quite a long time which I SAID NO TO! :D that bought me some extra time to dig deeper .... I found out that I have a ULTRA DMA CRC Count error on my laptop which is said to possibly cause a problem such as the one I am facing, which is a result of either problem with the HDD cable, bad sectors or the HDD controller. I checked the HDD for bad sectors and it came out clean so the only 2 options are the HDD cable which I have no idea why on earth would something wrong happen to it or the HDD controller

So I checked for HDD options in the 1.28 modded bios & found that there are only 2 of these babies 1 is for AHCI/IDE choice which was already there in the bios and the other for a function which is called "FDOROM" which was enabled so I disabled it, could this function which I have no idea what does it do be the reason my HDD controller was missed up ????

ON A DIFF. NOTE: Thank you for the HPET controlling option!!!!! I always wanted to disable that thing now my latencies never get past 100 :O

Do you means "DFOROM (Robson)"? According to WIKI, DFOROM is a Disk Filtering Option ROM. At least 3 person already flashed their Aspire 5738ZG/G with the modified BIOS image (1.28) & they have reported back it works (no problem after flash). Maybe there is compatibility issue with your HDD. Are you using ReadyBoost or ReadyDrive to boost your windows startup? I think it could be the reason of the problem.

I'll look into it later. I checked R2090J8H1.wph file checksums, it is (CRC-32 algorithms) 9CE1F27F. Please let me know if you got different checksums.

I found Aspire 5738DZG's BIOS is identical with Aspire 5738G's BIOS. Aspire 5738G's BIOS can be found at post #593.

    Kizwan,

Great job with all the work you've done here. I've been helping others mod their Dell BIOSes here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/521990-bios-modding-gpu-oc-fun-profit.html, but all I've been concentrating on is updating/changing/overclocking the GPU BIOS. I'd like to be able to do more, but I don't have the time/expertise to really get into the DSDT.

A lot of us 1645 owners have overheating/throttling problems with the quad i7s. When GPU temp exceeds 84C, the laptop throttles the CPU, killing performance. I've been looking for a way to undervolt the CPU to keep temps down by modding the BIOS, though most of what I've found so far has said it's impossible for the core-i series CPUs. On the first page, you responded to a post saying that you could undervolt by modding the DSDT, but that was directed at a C2D, and I'm not sure if it's the same for an i7.

So anyway, I was hoping you could help us out and mod the below linked BIOS to either undervolt the CPU slightly while maintaining stock clocks, raise the throttle limit slightly (say, to 89C), or both (if possible).

Whether or not the above is possible, I'm also interested in unlocking any/all 'hidden' BIOS options, fixing any DSDT imperfections, and whatever other fixes/mods/optimizations that you usually do (though I'm not interested in OSX or SLIC specific mods at all).

Sorry for the long request, and thanks in advance for any help.

AFAIK, I didn't found anyone successfully undervolt i7 or any Intel Core i processors. Based on, I believe reliable sources, it is not possible yet. Anyway, for the sake of discussion, there is an entry in BIOS which responsible in CPU performance (P-States/speedstep) & voltage ( FID & VID). Usually it is located in SSDT which is part of the ACPI tables. What we're looking for is _PSS (Performance Supported States).
( Source: Advanced Configuration and Power Interface Specification: Revision 4.0a)
    Table 8-7 PState Package Values
    Element Object Type Description
    Core
    Frequency
    Integer
    (DWORD)
Indicates the core CPU operating frequency (in MHz).
    Power Integer
    (DWORD)
Indicates the performance state’s maximum power dissipation (in
    milliwatts).
    Latency Integer
    (DWORD)
Indicates the worst-case latency in microseconds that the CPU is
unavailable during a transition from any performance state to this
    performance state.
    Bus Master
    Latency
    Integer
    (DWORD)
Indicates the worst-case latency in microseconds that Bus Masters are
prevented from accessing memory during a transition from any
performance state to this performance state.
    Control Integer
    (DWORD)
Indicates the value to be written to the Performance Control Register
(PERF_CTRL) in order to initiate a transition to the performance state.
    Status Integer
    (DWORD)
Indicates the value that OSPM will compare to a value read from the
Performance Status Register (PERF_STATUS) to ensure that the transition
to the performance state was successful. OSPM may always place the CPU
in the lowest power state, but additional states are only available when
    indicated by the _PPC method.
There are many example (usually on linux forum) of processor undervolting by modifying _PSS entry. Lets look into my Dell Studio's _PSS entry as an example:-
    Code:
            Name (_PSS, Package (0x07)
            {

To undervolt, the key is the Control's value. According to this website:-
(Sorry, I didn't check or verified the formula since I'm too lazy but many people referred to it though. ;) ) I guess formula to calculate core voltage for Intel Core i3, i5 & i7 will be different though. I haven't test it myself because of the fear I might burned the CPU. Another problem is, even if we experiment the Control's value, it is hard to confirm the changes (increase or decrease) since none of the software/tool I found can monitor the (CPU) core voltage.
I think you'll be interested with the thermal options. These are the screenhots from Dell Studio XPS 1647 with modified BIOS (it also available in XPS 1645's BIOS):-
    [IMG]
I believe to solved the throttling problem, I recommend to lower the Active Trip Point & High-Fan Trip Point. Also, increase the Passive Cooling Trip Point if it is too low.

Actually, I'm going to remove DSDT patching from the list on the first post since it involved a lot of work & I don't have time to look into it. The original purpose is to patched DSDT if there is a problem with it, for example running too hot or speedstep problem when running on linux (usually DSDT is tuned for windows operating system). SLIC mod is only done when requested.

I'll modify the XPS 1645's BIOS (unlock hidden options). The modified BIOS will be ready soon.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Based on what little I've found on the subject, it seems the voltage is now mostly controlled directly on the CPU die, and there's little you can do to change it (especially on laptops).

That's no problem with the DSDT, I dual-boot with Fedora 14, and I haven't had any issues with it (though I'm just starting out in Linux, so I might not know if something minor was messed up).

The thermal control options (and whatever else you can unlock) sound great, the users on the Dell board and I will greatly appreciate it.

    Hi kizwan,
can you please do some work on Aspire 5930 bios? It's here on acer's FTP. I was trying to do it myself but in fact I'm not so advanced in HEX editing so i'm just afraid to kill my laptop...
The "must-have" for this BIOS is IntelVT suport. DSDT patch is also needed but it's all up to you and only if you have time for opening any other options.
Thanks in advance from me and from acerfans.ru forum.

    gassi_b, t4400 doesn't support IntelVT.

Do you also have Sony VAIO VGN-AR71M? The modified BIOS will be ready soon. ;)

I have question about the BIOS mod you did for Samozen's VGN-AR71M. Did you mod it for SLIC 2.1 or unlocked hidden options?

You can find the modified BIOS image for Aspire 5930 at post #781. Good luck. ;)

    Hi guys,

I just updated first post. I just want to be clear, from the start & still always, I don't support piracy.

@samozen, please don't share/post over here anything from the thread. Your modified BIOS (unlocked hidden options) will be ready soon.

The RAID options always there. So if you didn't see it before, it maybe still not visible. Look in the " ICH Control Sub-Menu". There is an option called " SATA RAID". See whether it is visible or not. The only explanation why it is not visible in real BIOS menu but visible in simulation BIOS menu is lack of hardware support.

    Hi kizwan and all here,

just join this forum when lookin for some information about BIOS, and seems here got a lot of good discussion..

btw, did anybody here ever do any mod to ACER 5750 G BIOS? this notebook considered a very new released (just released this year -2011)

this laptop got a very good feature and spec such as i7 sandy core and new Nvidia GT 540M,

it also come with what they called Optimus technology, this one is a good thing actually, as it can save power that used. but the minus thing is we can't get the max performance from the GT 540 GPU.

if on desktop mainboard that also utilize Optimus technology, we can disabled the On Board Graphic from BIOS so we can run the Main NVIDIA GPU as we need.

will it be possible to do the same thing with this 5750G BIOS if we edit/hack it?

can i request for the mod version with the unlock hidden menu for it?

btw, here's the BIOS Original File & RW Everything if anybody want to take a look..

    BIOS 5750G Origin 1.02

Aspire 5750G have Insyde BIOS. Sorry, Insyde BIOS is not supported.
Nvidia with Optimus performs great. Optimus won't reduced the performance. Unless your Nvidia Geforce GT 540M is equipped with DDR3 instead of GDDR5.

    Welcome to NBR Forum!

ya, just noticed it that it run Insyde...

this Phoenix Mod Tool didn't support Insyde Bios is it? because seems i read in mydigitallife forum it also can mod Insyde, Dell and EFI, or is there another file to do it?

their download server also down oftenly, can't get the tools for experimenting :(

btw, about optimus, since i planned to put linux & os X as double boot, i really need to get rid of the Intel IGD graphic because linux can't properly manage to boot when it detects the Intel one...

do u have any other idea what tool i can use for mod this bios? or to disable the intel graphic?

    thx a lot anyway..

There is no problem on tools. Phoenix SLIC Mod tool can handle Insyde BIOS - it can be use to decompress & re-build Insyde BIOS image. The problem is, I don't know how to unlocked hidden option on Insyde BIOS. Sorry.

I own a Acer Extensa 5620-6830. I'm wondering if I'd be able to use the modded driver from here and be able to dual IDA my intel t8100. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Worked for a 5620G+T9500 here. Flashing the dualIDA capable bios will mean your T8100 will be able to run at 2.3Ghz.

So that means I'll be able to use the BIOS on the 5620G on my 5620-6830 then right? I just want to make sure because I hear that you can mess up your computer if you use a wrong BIOS update.

Also, I plan to get a ViDock or make my own eventually, but I'm not too big in the computer terminology area. I'm just wondering, would any working DIY ViDock work on any laptop long as it has the necessary ports. I have a Expresscard 54 slot if that means anything.
