    Hi kizwan,

i've an acer aspire 1660 and it flashed not properly to bios v1.15. starting the notebook will result in black screen with a rotating fan and a hdd spin up attempt. i set the bootblock jumper on sw2 (pin2) to on. i also created several boot floppy disks included the bios files, but no lock. i've tried different usb ports, no luck. i tried different methods with fn+esc (with/without battery), win+esc, win+b, fn+b...no luck. the floppy is not starting to work. but if i start the laptop, it beeps one time.

i've downloaded this bios: ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_1660/bios/y4ws_115.zip and renamed m11_v115.rom to bios.wph.

    what should i do next?

    thanks in advance.

    Hello

    Thx for your help.

The point "unlocked EIST" is great!

When i want to use the "ThrottleStop" programm, i have to start this every time or the setting will be copied in the Windows system to deactivate it permanetly?

So, now i will wait for your great work! :)

Please follow exactly the BIOS recovery procedure available at first post. Make sure to replace BIOS.WPH file in the BIOS recovery package with your notebook BIOS image. Also make sure to create CRISIS disk in 32-bit windows, preferably Windows XP. Good luck. The CRISIS disk, I believe should be floppy disk.

The EIST will be unlocked permanently. The modified BIOS image will be ready as soon as possible.

    Hi kizwan,

thanks for you fast answer. I'm happy that you said, that it is in principle possible. maybe the boot block is erased? what do you mean, is this possible? what crisis version should i use?

    thanks in advance.

I look in the Aspire 1660's BIOS package & I found this command in BIOS.BAT file:-
    Code:
    PHLASH16 m11_v115.abl /bbl /mode=3 /x /s /c /exit
The " /BBL" switch tell the flash tool to flash Boot Block area too. Using " /BBL" switch is not recommended. I hope the Boot Block is not corrupted. If yes BIOS recovery will not be possible with CRISIS disk.

    Try this steps:-
    1) Please use CRISIS disk for Aspire 9420 - it is available at first post.
    2) Extract the Acer Aspire 9420 BIOS Recovery.rar
    3) Rename m11_v115.abl to BIOS.WPH & copy the BIOS.WPH file into CRISIS folder - Acer Aspire 9420 BIOS Recovery\CRISDISK. Replace the existing file in it.
    4) Create CRISIS disk using floppy disk in 32-bit OS, preferably Windows XP - launch the " WINCRIS.EXE" & create the CRISIS disk.
    5) Follow the first BIOS recovery procedure (start from step #4 to #8) available at first post.

I am not sure if it is right place to post this issue but it seems to me that I need also a modified bios :)
I have a small issue with my Acer Aspire 9300 notebook.
I have replaced my old Hitachi HDD 160 GB 5400 RPMs with new Hitachi 250 GB 7200 RPMs HDD. After this the following issue appeared:

I have dualboot system - Linux and Windows, I tried both boot loaders - grub and windows loader - this occurs independently with both. Some times grub errors out:

    error> out of disk

I reboot the machine and some time this error reoccurs, some times grub menu appears but then while booting Ubuntu reports that it is not able to find the /home partition. I tested this HDD on other PC - it works fine. Old smaller HDD also works fine. So I suppose that my bios is not always correctly working with large HDD and this causes boot loaders not to be able to locate the entire disk or some of its partitions. I have upgraded bios to latest version:

    ftp://ftp.acer-euro.com/notebook/asp...bios/v1.20.zip

But this did not solve the issue.

Can anyone let me know if it is possible to some how modify the BIOS or patch it to support large harddrive?

    Any help appreciated!

I have described this issue in the following topic also:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...ys-able-boot-large-harddrive.html#post7143218

I highly doubt it. However, there is no harm to try it. The CMOS/RTC battery should be near the CD-ROM connector on the motherboard. The battery is likely covered with a film/cover (please refer to picture below)

    @Zox,

Cross posting is not allowed ( forum rules ). Sorry, this kind of mod is not supported. Your notebook does support 250GB HDD, which means BIOS mod is unnecessary.

There is no modified BIOS for Aspire 7552G yet. Only pictures of hidden options. I will modified it for you as soon as possible. For the meantime, make sure your notebook can recover corrupted BIOS with CRISIS disk. There is new BIOS available at Acer support website, version 1.12. Do you want me modified the latest BIOS?

Just boot with the USB stick (DOS bootable) & run the .BAT file. Please let me know how it goes. If you can post the screenshot of the ThrottleStop running on your notebook after BIOS flash, that would be great.

    Kizwan,

I would like, if possible, a bios for Aspire 5740g.
    What i would like:
    -1.22/.28 vbios
-issue with usb ports not working after suspension mode (1.16 was working, 1.22/28 still have that bug)
-HT disabled (or option to disable it)

My new bios chip works ok and already tried Crisis disk and works!
    Thanks in advance

I already modified Aspire 5740G's BIOS 1.22. It is available at post #1517.

As for the USB ports issue, try experimenting the USB options in the unlocked sub-menu.

    Hello kizwan

    Sry for one more question.

What i have to enable/disable in the CPU control sub menue?
When i disable the "Intel Speed step" the core´s run just with a multi 6.

It´s necessary to use the "throttle" program?

It is depend on your need.
Yes, when you disabled the Intel Speedstep, the CPU will run in lowest multiplier. Just enabled the Intel Speedstep.

Please download & run ThrottleStop on your notebook. Please post the screenshot of the ThrottleStop here. Thank you.

It is up to you whether you want to use it or not. I just hope you can run the ThrottleStop program on your notebook & take the screenshot. I'll really appreciate it if you can post here the screenshot of the ThrottleStop.

Doesn't appear to work with 64bit os... should i be loading this to a usb key or something? also... will this allow me to change the amount of shared memory for the vid card to use. It's what i'm trying to find a way to do and the acer with the no we don't want to let you access much of your bios crap won't let me. I'll seriously reconsider getting acer again thanks to this cause they should at least have a keyboard command to unlock it for those whom aren't terribly likely to screw things up. (I've an acer aspire 7552g-5488 that I recently upped to 10g ram and this crud's keeping me at less than 2g total ram for the vid card)

Do you mean you can't flash it in Windows 64bit? You'll need to flash it in DOS. Go to first post for more information ( Flash BIOS in DOS mode section)

There is already an option for changing the video memory up to 256MB in Main section in BIOS menu. If it is grayed out or disabled, try look in the Advanced Chipset Control \ Advanced NB Options \ Internal Graphics Configuration.

Doesn't offer me that option at all... there's no grayed out advanced in my current bios at all... does this mean that the downloadable modded one won't work?
My comp has 767mb shared memory for the vid card atm btw but i'm trying to increase that (it's also got 1gb dedicated) as I upped the comp's ram from 4gb to 10gb.

Hi hope i can find help i need here...
I post my problem (below) in the acer forum and i get the attached replay.
My present bios is update and it is a Phoenix bios.
I would really apreciate if you could help .I would really like to get this working
    Thank you in advance :)

(Hi everyone.I am new on the forum and i need some help here.Just get a new AMD TK42 cpu in my Ferrari one it works but it boot always at 1.2 Mhz..
There is no way i can run it up to 1.6 as it should. With AMD overdrive or RM clock the best i can have is to run it at 1.4 (multiplier X 7).If i go further the system crash!!
    Any idea??Please help
    Thank you)

(If the CPU microcode is not supported/recognized by BIOS it's possible that voltage is not increased above certain level which would explain why it crashed at higher multipliers.
Make sure your BIOS is up to date- if not- update.
    If this doesn't help (and your BIOS is Phoenix) post in kizwan's thread to check if he can update BIOS with your CPU's microcode.}

Did you get microcode error message during BOOT?

Outdated microcode also can be the reason the CPU doesn't work like it supposed to. The other reason is the power supplied to CPU is not enough which unfortunately, I can't do anything about it because it is hardware limitation.

I can try update the CPU microcode but AMD microcode format is different than Intel. I only know Intel CPU microcode format. Please give me the link to BIOS & I'll try look into it.

Hello Kizwan:No i do not get a microcode error during boot actually in the bios screen the cpu is stated correctely at 1.6 but in real it is not.She is just locked to 1.2 like the original L310(this must be bios related? looks like the new cpu just keep the old setting....).I can only using a third part tool rise up to 1.4..after crashhhh!!!Anyway i get the bios version 1.3112 on the official acer support site (net book, ferrari one, download, bios).Thank for any help :)

OK, I got it. I'll look into it later & will let you know later how it goes. For the meantime, make sure your notebook can recover corrupted BIOS with CRISIS disk.

OK. I'll look into it. Please post the VBIOS version - taken from GPU-Z. This will based on BIOS 1.22 ( the one with K0 stepping CPU mod since the processor in your 5740G is i5 460m). If you want 1.28, you'll have to wait a bit longer.

kizwan thanks for accept my request :). I use the bios is the new Maple 1.28 for 5740G, I like the vga ati hd5470, gpu-z I'm not extrapolate the bios because it is integrated into the motherboard and because the VBIOS is built into the bios 1.28. How can you do?
