I have a couple of questions:-
    1) Which one is your Aspire 1652's BIOS?
    • BIOS For Intel Graphic Card
    • BIOS Acer BIOS for ATI X700 Graphic Card
    • BIOS Acer BIOS for ATI X600 Graphic Card
    • BIOS Acer BIOS for ATI X300 Graphic Card
    2) I take a look in one of the BIOS & I found nothing interesting. Can you specify what do you want or what do you expect from it?

I have the X300 Graphic Card version. In my bios there is the advanced menu that appear empty, so I think there is some kind of blok on this menu.
I would like to enable that menu, and if is not present in it, to have to possibility to overclock the CPU, memory and so on.

    Thanks.

In the Advanced menu, there are infrared, serial port & parallel port settings, nothing else. It is an old BIOS & a basic one. There are no CPU or memory overclock/control options in BIOS. Not even VT menu.

sry for the late reply. been busy with school.

anyways, the flash went fine and tho i didnt understand most things in the bios

i was able to disable hyperthreading, tho re-enabling it didnt work. even though it said "enabled", cpu-z was still only reporting 2 cores and2 threads. i reset the bios to default settings and HT was back to normal. i tried to disable the "IDG" which i think is the intel graphics card so that the laptop would only use the nvidia card, but that didnt seem to work/didnt do anything. there's also a bunch of options that i think are for the higher-end cpus like turbo, extreme edition, and vt-d, but i don't think my i3-370m supports that so setting those to "enable" didnt do much.

well at least i was able to disable HT which for some reason lead to smoother gameplay in some of my games and supposedly uses less heat. :) thanks for the bios!

About the HT issue there, it maybe just a glitch. Resetting BIOS to default setting should take care of it, just like you did there. Is this notebook came with Nvidia optimus? Maybe because of this notebook configuration, IGD settings is being ignored. If it is standard switchable graphic cards, you should be able to disabled IGD. That IF the primary graphic card is not the IGD. All other setting like turbo boost, extreme edition & VT-d will only work with supported hardware. At least if you upgrade to i7-620M, you will get Turbo Boost & VT-d support.

Some games will have problem if they see more cores than they supported. They just don't know what to do. Disabling some cores helps fixed the problem. I don't know about the heat but processor still consumed the same amount of power, so basically there should be not much of different in the heat dissipation between HT enabled or disabled.

Thank you for giving me the feedback of the modified BIOS.

Did someone already manage to unlock the 1.19 Bios (or a previous) of the acer 3820tg?
    acer 3820tg 1.19
Is the 3rd graphic switch option unhideable, or even there at all?
    now:"discrete-switchable"
3rd: "discrete-switchable-integrated" or "..-intel only" or smth like that

hate that i cant turn off the discrete 6550m in windows xp, so i have to go with both powered on or discrete only which costs me 2hours of battery time

thx for any info on that!

To unlocked hidden options on 3820TG, please go to post #1148. It is much easier & do not require BIOS mods. If you messed up, just need to reset CMOS.

If you want the hidden options appeared permanently, just let me know & I'll mods 3820TG's BIOS.

Yes! Can you please do it? I would love to have it unlocked permanently! It might be worth the time to unlock it in 4820 and 5820 too since their BIOSes are probably very similar to 3820.

Can you also look into the "Intel only" graphics option Marrt mentioned above? There is a mod of 38 10 (Insyde BIOS) where "Intel only" option was unlocked/added under Switchable menu, so maybe it is possible in 3820?

Also, I heard there are even more advanced options available apart from that Advanced Menu. Can you please check? Ideally, it would be great to have ACPI configuration menu where you can change some ACPI stuff like set the CPU temperature when the fan turns on. It would be god-like to have overclock menu of some sort :D  but I can only dream...

I can test the modded BIOS if needed. I already have some Crisis recovery experience ;)

Isn't there a driver that works on Windows XP?

UPDATE: It is possible to disable ATI graphics in a way that you want. Once turned off it will not consume power. Please see my guide Acer TimelineX 3820TG/4820TG/5820TG "Intel only" option in BIOS (disable ATI)

PS: Marrt, if you want to continue this discussion please do so in 3820 thread. Let's not post offtopic in this BIOS mod thread.

I had not realised you had updated the 7738G, tried the v1.13 bios and all the options I have tried so far have worked fine.

The memory force option of 333mhz is amusing, almost half of my 533mhz.

Shame it was not a true 666mhz option!

BIOS works great! Intel section is there and it stays there even if I Load Defaults. However, in your post you said "I have unlocked other menu as well. Please be careful with it.", but I don't see any new menus. Where do I look for the new menu?

    Thanks a lot!

That is my standard message whenever I post modified BIOS image with a lot of options or sub-menus. The "other menu" is referring to other options in sub-menus in the Intel section. Thank you for the feedback.

Yeah, it won't work. I don't know why Acer wrote BIOS with that option available. Thank you for the feedback on the modified BIOS.

There is no Intel section in the BIOS. So, you you can't enabled it. Someone already request the modified BIOS for Samsung R580. You can find the modified BIOS at post #1587.

Please use Phoenix Tool to extract the VBIOS (GPU BIOS). The VBIOS filename is OPROMxx.ROM, where xx is 00, 01, 02 & so on. To know which one is the correct VBIOS for the GPU, compare the BIOS version in GPU-Z with the one in the OPROMxx.ROM (open using HEX editor).

There is already modified BIOS for Aspire 9300 but with BIOS v1.19. It is available at post #431. I'll look into BIOS v1.20 again if there is any hidden options for HDD (CHS & LBA modes option).

    Hi kizwan,

Is it possible to use a crisis recovery usb to flash a bios (even when the current bios is fine)?

One more thing, any chance you could mod my bios again?
I would like to swap the moblie intel GMA vbios with one from a desktop (already ran the vbios in dos and there wasn't any problem apart from the resolution of the screen, guess could change that in windows). That should double my GPU frequency (I think).

I've attached a vbios that I took from the driver package for the desktop intel 3150, if that's not the right file needed, I can try to find a deskop bios that has the correct vbios file.

I don't know why there is no Intel tab. I found this tab in string's file. But You have right! The same options are in Advenced tab now.

For another R580 user: BIOS works correctly!! You can flash it to see hide menu's.

kizwan, thank you and best regards.

Yes, you can flash BIOS using CRISIS recovery usb even when the current BIOS is fine.
Sure, I'll look into it. Will let you know as soon as possible.

EDIT: The "pnv_2036.dat" file look like a valid VBIOS. The size also 64kb, same size with original VBIOS on your Toshiba.

There is an "Intel" string in the strings file but it is not in use in BIOS menu table ("Main", "Advanced", etc). So, you can't use symcmos to unlock it.

Thank you for the feedback of the modified BIOS. Enjoy!

    Your bios worked :)

The image on the screen was cut off at the bottom (just like when I tested the vbios in dos). I thought this was a res problem, but after changing the res in windows the problem was still there.

I installed the desktop 3150 driver, ran hwinfo32, it told me the GPU clock was still 200mhz. I ran WEI, got the same scores as I did with the stock vbios.

Looks like I was wrong about doubling my GPU clock :(

Ahh well, it was worth a try. I do wonder why the frequency didn't change though...

Too bad it doesn't work like you expected it to work.

I don't know how Intel GPU work but probably the GPU clock still at 200MHz because some requirement not fit like e.g. voltage. Is there any editor for Intel GPU BIOS which you can use to check available/supported clock?

EDIT: I found this wiki website. According to the GMA 3150's specification, if you have Atom chipset Atom N4x0 & Atom N550, the GPU core clock only up to 200MHz.

I have never heard of an editor like that for intel GPUs (but if someone has such a program please post a link).

I guess there is no hope of getting it to 400mhz (unless it's frequency is linked to the FSB as in the case of the x4500).

    Hi kizwan,

I have another question about bios modding.
Is it possible to change the value of a PLL (clockgen) register?

Register 14 controls the FSB in my netbook (TME has been disabled), if I change this register in windows my system locks up.

One time after I changed it I got a BSOD, then my netbook reset but the register still had the value I changed it to, this gave me the frequency I wanted. I have not been able to set any value since then without having the netbook lockup.

Would be great if that value could be changed in the bios.

When I deconstructed a CQ41 bios using PhoenixTool there was a clockgen output file whose contents looked similar to the setfsb diagnosis window. If the PhoenixBios is the same then potentially could just alter the bits in the module and reconstruct and flash. I found this out by loading the bios in EzH2O then 'opening memory' of EzH2O.

Example: CQ41 Insyde BIOS clockgen module identification and contents

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

1: With EzH2O having open the BIOS, use HxD to search Ez2O's RAM for "clockgen" to identify the clockgen module

2: Use PhoenixTool to deconstruct the bios, open the clockgen module filename. In this case C3619722-EF37-4605-8C35-C7A37B51EDD2_0_870. 13 bytes of the PLL configuration registers are shown for the 2 PLLs that the CQ41 may be equipped with.

3: CQ41 ICS9LPRS3197AKLFT PLL's setfsb diagnosis window from the first tested CQ41 systemboard.

    4: CQ41 RTM875N-632 PLL's setfsb diagnosis window from a second CQ41 systemboard.

The CQ41 systemboard uses either a RTM875N-632 or ICS9LPRS3197AKLFT PLL. Fortunately I had a setfsb diagnosis dumps of both PLLs. The second picture shows 2x13 bytes highlighted that corresponds to the first 13 bytes of both PLL's diagnosis window.

This may mean the PLL configuration registers could be altered in the clockgen module. I didn't try since both these system's PLLs appeared to not be software programmable. Don't have access to them anymore either.

I've attached the example clockgen module so you can see evaluate it's contents.

@nando4, thank you very much. I'll check in Phoenix BIOS whether it have similar module or not.

I've got a 1600x900 screen I'm trying to make work with my 4820TG with ATI 5560 GPU. It almost works, but only half the pixels are getting lit up. Any hope of a vbios mod to fix that?

hi guys, Kizwan and Moral Hazard.
This thread was the only result google gave me when searching for pnv_2036, i hope you can help!

I have an asus eepc with gma 3150, and would like to upgrade the vga bios. As i understand it, i can not do it directly but need to proceed by first modifying an asus bios. Am I right?

If so what are the tools needed for that (is it only possible?)

    thank for your help!!

I don't think this can be fixed with VBIOS mod. Also, I don't think 4820TG's LVDS port support that big resolution screen.

Replacing vga bios with newer one is easy. However, Asus usually use either Insyde or AMI BIOS. If it is Insyde BIOS, it can be done. I'm not familiar with AMI BIOS though.

Unfortunately, I can't use the same trick with Phoenix BIOS using Phoenix BIOS Editor. Without this first step, it's hard to identify which module contain clockgen register in Phoenix BIOS.

Maybe grab the setfsb 13-byte PLL diagnosis dump and search all the deconstructed bios modules for those bytes, or a subset of those bytes to identify the "clockgen" init module.
