Yes, for VT-x to work, you'll need VT-x capable CPU.

Hello Kizwan just to know if you still working on it or the project is over.
In which case i shall put the original cpu back in.
    Thank you

    Hi,

The project isn't over but yeah, I haven't found the solution yet. For the meantime, please use the original CPU until I found the solution on the microcode update.

Yeah, it is normal if there is no demand for GPU processing power. GPU load is 0% in the screenshot. The GPU still throttling like always, based on the GPU load. When there is a demand for GPU processing power, the Core & Memory clock will increase to 850MHz & 950MHz respectively. Play any games, preferably in window mode because you want to see the GPU-Z window for monitoring the clocks. Don't forget to tick " Continue refreshing this screen while GPU-Z is in the background" at GPU-Z window.

You forgot to post picture of the Intel section in BIOS menu. Please post it. Thank you.

@Rhadamanthis, thank you very much. I use different approach on the Aspire 5740G BIOS this time. Instead of "moving" them to Main section, I unlocked the Intel section.

I know it's only been 4 days but did you get chance to look at the BIOS - just wondering if there's at least a possibility of unlocking some features?

Not without extreme edition processor because only extreme processor have unlocked multiplier. Aspire 5740G BIOS doesn't have any (including hidden) options to utilize extreme processor capability, e.g. TDP & TDC Limit. To overcome this, will need to use third party tool like ThrottleStop. That if you have extreme processor.

Bios is flashed succesfully! Virtualization and Dual-IDA is working even with undervolting of the T7250 as can be seen here:

However, the Q9100ES I've got doesnt get past welcome screen. Picture attached.

Here's a picture of the actual cpu in question as well.

    @MZWiZard,

Thank you very much for the feedback.

As for the Q9100 ES, I don't think it is related to microcode update anymore. Do you know anyone who use Q9100 ES on their notebook? It doesn't matter what brand of the notebook. If you know someone, please ask him to provide you the CPU-Z's report.

Thanks for taking the time to do this kizwan. Is there any chance you could modify it so that the FSB of the processor/Ram could be changed?

Would be great to be able to increment it but if it has to be a set limit would like to change all 1066 CPU to 1333. The chipset supports 1333 CPU's and the laptop even comes with 1333 RAM even if the CPU supplied is 1066.

Sorry, there is no overclock option in BIOS. So, I can't do anything about it.

When the CPU only support 1066, the memory will operate in backward compatibility which is 1066 too. To operate it in 1333, you'll need to upgrade the processor to i7 quad-core.

To overclock Intel Core i3, i5 & i7, you'll need to use third party tool like SetFSB.

BTW, did you flashed BIOS with the modified BIOS?

    Is this your notebook specification?
Intel Core 2 Extreme (Desktop) QX6850 3 GHz
    Intel PM965

That's a shame. I knew the memory was working at 1066, was hoping something in the bios could be modified to run all CPU's at 1333 regardless.

I've also scoured the internet for software to achieve this, or a pin mod (BSEL) but haven't been able to get anywhere :(

Yes I did flash your BIOS and it worked. One of the options in the menu you unlocked caused half of the screen to fold back on itself though.

Thanks again for taking the time to do this. Was really hoping for a bios overclock solution :(

NOTE: Please make sure before using this modified BIOS, you already flashed the original BIOS first.

This is modified BIOS image for Clevo D901C. It is based on BIOS D900C_22.

    NOTES:-
    • The "Frequency Ratio" option is known to cause the computer failed to boot. So, don't change the value if you don't know what it does. If you do change it & notebook failed to boot, you'll need to reset/clear CMOS. To do so, you'll need to locate & disconnect the CMOS/RTC battery. This option is seems for CPU with unlocked multiplier but I don't know for sure.

I second that notion.. all flashed and working great, although I don't have the frequency ratio menu items, I guess because my processor is locked frequency anyway (Q9550). Oh and I think thermal management etc are missing too but it's definitely an improvement over the standard BIOS, even if I don't know what most of the options do :)

    Thank you again kizwan.

Dear kizwan, I was addressed here while seeking the decision to my laptop's bios problem.
    I have Aspire 9804WKMI with 4Gb of RAM and Win7 x64 installed.
The bios is the latest I could find - v.2.14 for Vista.
But it see only 3.0* Gb of RAM.
System sees all 4 of them, but can't use it.
I was looking for Aspire 9820' bios but in vein. Heart it uses x64 system naturally that could help.
Could you please tell me is it possible to modify original bios to correct this issue. Maybe also to make some additional useful tweaks?
    Thanks in advance...

Aspire 9800's BIOS is poorly programmed/wrote. Not worth at all to mod it. The 3GB issue is not because of lack BIOS support. I don't know the actual reason why from 4GB detected, only 3GB are usable but I did found one article long time ago explaining this issue. I don't remember the link to that article but basically it happen because bad hardware implementation. Sorry I couldn't be much more of a help.

The "Frequency Ratio" option have sub-routine which check, probably check for supported hardware. That's why the option is missing.

As for the thermal management, it have sub-routine too. Please check using AIDA64 or HWiNFO32 to know whether Q9550 support TM2 (Thermal Monitor 2) or not.

Hi kizwan, I've just picked up a toshiba nb500 netbook, is there any chance you could take a look at it and maybe add an option to change the cpu frequency somehow?

    Bios attached (Phoenix).

    Hi,
as you may know, I'm the guy with the Travelmate-8572TG-laptop which has switchable graphics.
We tried to switch-off the nvidia-gpu to save power, but we didn't got it.
Now I've seen, that there is an option to disable the PCIE-slots.

This should disable the nvidia, but will the laptop boot with intel(if I'm on switchable-mode) or will this let me boot without GPU, so I have to change back the settings without seeing anything?

    Greets, M1cha

I found one option, "Frequency Ratio" but it won't work as we imagine it should work. Based on several tests on a couple of notebooks, including one with extreme processor, changing the value only make notebook unbootable. Resetting CMOS should make notebook bootable again. At best, on extreme processor, only downclock work (choose lower ratio).

I found there are several hidden Sub-Menus. I'll unlocked it in modified BIOS. I'll let you know when the modified BIOS image is available.

    Hi,

You need to try it yourself. I don't know which one is boot/primary graphic card. If it failed to boot after changing something in BIOS, you just need to reset CMOS. It will reset all settings to default & this will make your notebook bootable again. Make sure you know where CMOS/RTC battery is located.

That's the problem: I already have warranty and the service-cap only gives me access to HDD and RAM.
But I think, that the CPU takes much more power than the GPU, because with nvidia-enabled, the battery-lifetime-app sometimes shows me 5h, but mostly it's around 2-3h.
I don't think, the "max CPU power"-option in the BIOS will help much.
Do you know, how to globally limit cpu-usage in linux?

    Thank you kizwan.
So, my bios doesn't detect more than 3Gb of RAM because of poor hardware implementation, right?

Also, is it possible to override bios 3Gb limitation through some OS config.sys etc. tweaks?
Because Win7 sees 4Gb of RAM.

    Thanks again.

Your 945 chipset in your laptop does not support 4GB.

    From Wikipedia:
So you are limited to 32-bit space only, which means only 4GB of addressable space. Within that 4GB, the BIOS will reserve space for PCI devices and your IGP. So at least 512MB of that will be gone. Many bios take more.. up to 1GB as yours does. Only way to correct this would be to do bios hack to unlock D_LCK and change TOLUD, with perhaps doing a PCI Compaction. If interested, suggest review links below to possible reclaim another 0.5GB of space.

Why 3.0GB, not 3.25 or even 3.5? [Updated with Answer]

Hi nando4, Thanks a lot for your input.
Looks a bit complicated for me. But I'll check the links.
Do you think it's wrong idea to install 9920 bios instead of current 9800?
965 chipset instead of 945... It won't work, would it?

No RAID support in the modified BIOS. According to Intel 5 Series Chipset datasheet, HM55 chipset don't have RAID support. Also there is no Intel Rapid Storage Manager RAID Option ROM in BIOS.

    VT token is 312
    but for AHCI?

It seems, on these notebooks, SATA & PATA are used/implemented in a combined function mode. According to ICH7 datasheet, in this mode, AHCI is not available.

Is there a structure for the HD5650 in the 8942G's bios? Is there any chance that it can be used to replace another in the 7738G's bios?

There is an option ROM (VBIOS) for the HD5650 (MADISON) in the 8942G's BIOS. Yes, can put the option ROM in 7738G's BIOS. Just need to replace (any that not in used) existing option ROM in 7738G's BIOS.

Do you think it has any effect on a card with a bios on it?

The machine has an MXM slot.

Anything but the GT240M or HD4650 can go.
