Any discussion related to Mac OS X installation on non-Apple computer is prohibited by Forum Rules.

There is already unlocked BIOS based on BIOS v1.18 for Aspire 7741 series notebook. It can be found at post #1387. Do you want the unlocked BIOS based on the BIOS v1.20 instead (latest according to Acer support website)?

The procedure usually will slightly different on different models. If it doesn't work on your notebook, it means the procedure on your notebook is different. It can be a lot of factor such as the phlash16.exe version is older (not compatible) or the BIOS recovery not triggered properly. Please try latest version of phlash16.exe.

Yes already tried it, and the crisis recovery is successful :)

So I flashed to your modded BIOS, it also works like charm! Thanks again. Plenty of setting to explore, it looks like it have lots of PCI express power saving feature, and some GPU setting. But I bet because of how Optimus works, I don't think it will only work with nVidia GPU.

Can you post the procedure which works for your notebook?
Some settings depend on the hardware capability. I hope at least most settings works.

The procedure is the same as your laptop, Fn+Esc and press power button. USB drive L.E.D flashes and I release the button. USB drive flashes for about 5 sec (maybe more) and needs to wait a couple of minutes before its done and rebooted itself. I use the Phlash16 v1.7.0.18.

Understood, I try to tread carefully. To remove the laptop just to dig the battery isn't my cup of tea because the battery is located under the touchpad so lots of screw to remove.

Hy I like to mod my acer 5930g bios in order to put my DSDT
but I used a lot of winphoenix.. no way to open a 1.23 bios.rom or wph

so.. is there a way to comprehend what's wrong ?

    I read the closed 3D.. I don't want a Slic2.1.. I want only my mods..
(change cosmetics name in devices, inject graphics data, change usb power current in order to stabylize current after resume from sleep, change c-state and p-state,...)

    thanks
    bye

Please upload original DSDT, modded DSDT and BIOS image as a zip file on filesharing service and share the link.

let me do that this evening because to take original DSDT I have to extract by copying the /proc/acpi/dsdt from ubuntu

if I take the dsdt from mac osx I have an altered dsdt..

I've no other way to take it.. thanks

    see ya

Within Win7 can do 'iasl -g' to save the DSDT table.

    attention!!
I did it!! I opened the rom.. I had some errors.. but!! ATTENTION

the dsdt I saw is totally different from the ones in ubuntu/windows
    this morning I've installed 7 64bit

so.. the Ubuntu and windows are quite identical except for some paragraph and spaces.. but the one opened with Winphoenix.. is totally different
so I have to post that!!

    but.. is it necessary.. ?

this is the diffrences between the ubuntu <
and the extracted dsdt from PBE 2.2.1.3

I tried to change the splash screen but somehow after build, the splash screen doesn't change. I already tried a couple of methods including shrinking the splash screen but still unable to change it. There is one way it can be done. Please try this:-
    1. Open the original .WPH file with PBE.
    2. In PBE, clicks the Splash Screen's button. This will decompressed the LOGO0.BIN/LOGO1.BIN. In the PBE's TEMP folder, you'll find the original "SCN1_00.JPG" file. Copy the original LOGO1.BIN & SCN1_00.JPG files from the TEMP folder & put it in a directory, let say "C:\ORIG_LOGO" folder.
    3. Open the original SCN1_00.JPG with HEX editor, choose "select all" & copy.
    4. Open LOGO1.BIN file with HEX editor & search for the SCN1_00.JPG's content you copied at no. 3.
That is the location of the SCN1_00.JPG in LOGO1.BIN file. What you need to do is paste your SCN1_00.JPG in LOGO1.BIN file. You'll need to decreased your SCN1_00.JPG file size a little bit because we want to maintain the LOGO1.BIN file size. When you decreased your SCN1_00.JPG file size, it probably too small. To maintain the length add FFs at the end of your SCN1_00.JPG. The length of the original SCN1_00.JPG is 0x646A. So make sure the length is the same.

This is modified BIOS image for TravelMate 6291. It based on BIOS ver 3117. Only Virtualization option is unlocked. Sorry, there's nothing interesting to unlocked. Regarding the splash screen, I think you can do it yourself. Please follow the above instruction. The reason I didn't do it because the second image which supposedly replaced the Intel logo won't reintegrate successfully.

Regarding the SSD drive issue, probably the miniPCIe slot in Aspire 7741Z notebook is not design to support SSD drive.

I'm trying to perform a BIOS recovery on an Acer Aspire 1551 using the steps in the OP and keep failing. I'm using a 2gb usb drive, created on windows xp, follow the instructions, etc. The usb drive blinks for several minutes but then stops and the computer does not restart, I've left it on for up to 15 minutes or so after it stops blinking and still nothing.

    Anyone know what's up?

Just wanted to say that your guide for bios recovery was very helpful, I managed to recover my bios on ACER ASPIRE 7551g.

If someone is interested, recovery mode combination is FN+ESC, laptop needs to be plugged in and with battery, no beeping sounds should be heard. I lost 1 day trying with 1gb usb pen and second day i borrowed 250 mb one and success in first try. Recovery took about 5-10 mins.

Problem was i flashed my bios with 1.11 and lost graphic support for Ati Radeon HD 6650. Now back to 1.15 and all working.

    Thank you for guide.

There are two version of SetFSB. One of them is free. You can test overclock with it. I has read at Aspire 5740G's Owners Lounge someone already tested it on Aspire 5740G before & it works.

Please stick to the topic- overclocking 5740 let alone via SetFSB is not what this thread is about.

    Hello,

    I have two requests:
    - I am looking for a BIOS mod for the Acer Extensa 5220 (preferably enabling all hidden options). "
-Is there a way to include support for 8GB RAM (2x 4GB?) The individual modules work, and up till now I have managed to get it to post with 6GB (unstable though, probably due to incompatible timings since these are different modules). The extensa 5220 uses a GM965 chipset, which officially only supports 2 GB DDR. It should not be constrained by the chipset, since users have been able to do this with the Thinkpad X61, which contains the same chipset. This makes me think that it is BIOS limited.

    Thanks in advance!

You can find modified BIOS image for Extensa 5220 at post #1084.
Mobile Intel® GM965 Express Chipset only support up to 4GB. Maximum supported RAM is depend on the chipset specification.

Hi, I have succesfully flashed the bios on my 5672.
However I'm trying to enable AHCI mode in the bios, I thought this would enable it but alas...

Would you know if there is a way to 'reveal' this option? Or could it be that I'm chasing ghosts?

The AHCI configuration is not supported by the BIOS. Not all notebook at that time support AHCI.

Thanks for your link! Really appreciate your work, am going to try it out soon.
I am aware that chipset eventually decides how much ram is being detected. However, I suspect that this still is constrainted by the BIOS since I managed it to get it to post with 6GB, and am currently running with 5GB, which is more then the specification describes. As I pointed out before, the Thinkpad X31 (which is equipped with the same chipset) does work with 8GB. This makes me think that limits might also have been placed within BIOS.

The cause of instability with 6GB is probably due to mismatched modules... memory timing do not match for the 2 GB module.

There are a few known methods to push the 4GB limit away but none of them is really good.

Such tweak/mod is not supported here. It's time consuming & usually fan on notebooks is not controlled using standard ACPI specification. Try ask help over here. I think prikolchik & _InKr_ can help you on the issue.

Okay. It is also very odd that I have to place the modules in a specific order for it to work. i.e. if i switch the modules in each slot, it doesn't post either. The separate 4GB module does work individually in both slots.

Both notebooks use Insyde BIOS. Sorry, Insyde BIOS is not supported here.
