@NetRolller : Humm... what you said meets the conclusion I have drawn for what I read last night about ubuntu kernel. I'm totally agree with you : in their way to get closer to an user friendly environment (that is a good thing) like windows, they lose what is the essence of linux by closing things... But i have no choice but to stick with ubuntu, provided ubuntu is the environment chosen by my working team.. Plus, I'm quite new in linux, so in other ways, it's a smooth transition for me...
Thank you for the link, fortunately, my lab is filled with linux geeks (héhé), I should find people to help me explore this lead!
But one thing still bothers me about all of this... It means that I would have to make the driver manipulation at each kernel update, right?
What I really don't get is that it's working like a charm with the 8600m gt and not with the 9600m gt... with the same driver! Do you think you could manage to manipulate again the VBios of 9600m gt so that he could mimic the way the 8600m gt is recognized?
One more time, I'm ready to test everything : I really appreciate the 9920g and i would love to get it fixed once and for all!
Any way, thank you for the help, and for the instructive insight of yours about linux and GPU matters... It really improves my knowledge about my working tool! One more time, feel free to ask for new testing environment for 9920g, I'll be happy to oblige (héhé)!

@Netroller3D :
I've just soldered my eeprom on the GT230M PCB :
I see the old post (page 53) and you suggest to have a value of 45Kohm
Can you indicate me which CMS do you used and where i put it on PCB plz ?
Thnx -
Remove the one connected to SCK, and measure its resistance. (On my card, it was 15kOhm.)
Add 20kOhm to the measured value. (35kOhm in my case.)
If the result is 40kOhm, add a further 5kOhm.
Solder a resistor with this value to the SCK pads. (If you don't have an SMD resistor, you can solder a conventional resistor to the ROM chip directly.) -
@netroller i have flashed bios, no throttilng but reduve wei score in windows 7 cpu ram and ssd. now i have flash bad bios and my notebook black screen... how to recovery vbios?????????? help help help
-
-
@DoZe: Round to the nearest available value. (I used 36K.)
@Rhadamantis: What BIOS did you flash, on what notebook? -
Hi all,
Lastest news from the 9920g : A sudden electrical arc stroke from the hardware heavens (or maybe because an unconscious guy has let a battery in place while plugging GPU... héhé) and fried a poor innocent (but rotten) 8600m gt... No video activities have been noticed since this accident... the remaining 9600m gt is ok (but not in the right screen definition..)
So, now, there is no alternative : either the 9600m gt works at full speed, either I'll have no choice to close the case...
@Netrolller : do you think you could do something else about the Vbios manipulation, to try to override the mxm readings issue from the drivers, once and for all? Of course, it's obvious that it is up to you to decide, you've made so many things so far, and I already owe you a lot! But I'm ready to test your experiments, if you feel ready about this!
Thank you, and have a good weekend, everyone! -
when i flash i override all setting
when i decide to turn around i have flashed bios msi, after not reboot i have set command nvflash -r (to remove protection) and then not rebooting i have flashed alredy bios msi 9600m gt, ok i reboot and black screen -
@Rhadamanthis : Have you tried the "nvflash -4 -5 -6 [yourbios].rom"?
-
-
@Rhadamanthis : Maybe you should try to override the fx770 bios with the original bios?
-
yes and screen black, freeze pc

Hi all,
I was wondering... Since I'm still figthing with my 9600m gt to work with my 9920g (either with a new vbios, or with a driver manipulation, i'm following the wo leads..), I'm looking for a cheap temporary replacement for my (totally) burnt 8600m GT (because it misses me to work on such a big screen such as the 9920 one)...
So could you tell me please what are the candidate cards (that work for sure, this time) for my 9920g? Thank you so much! I heard here and there that 9500m gs and 9300m gs (256 or 512 Mo, by the way?), should make the day : is it right?
One other question, for Netrolller : I'm trying to understand the manipulation you have made in the 9600m GT vbios, by editing and compare there with HxD... I saw there was only one difference ("32" instead of "30") (plus the checksum bit at the end). Could you explain me a little bit more about this? Plus, is there a tutorial somewhere that explains how to mod our own bios?
Still, did you have an opportunity to look on your side for a new Vbios modification for the 9600m GT to work without driver manipulation? I told you, i'm ready to test your work.
Thank you for any help, and have a good day! -
Hi
Info: 9600m gs ddr3 is working in 5920g with original acer bios and nvidia
drivers, but no video out. -
Hi Guys,
has someone managed to install FX770 into a Travelmate 5720?
Mine doesn't want do boot up. It beeps a long and two short. I've put Netroller3D's bios on. The card is perfectrly working in an Aspire. -
Hi guys,
Finally, I found a cheap 9500m gs 512M (VG.8PG06.005) for replacing my 8600m gt, and I will give it a try... If I understand well, there are two possibilities to make this card work on my 9920g :
- Either I flash it with the 8600m gt vbios taken from my old 8600m gt card.
- Or I take the specific vBios made by acer for make this card work on their laptops:
DDR2 : techPowerUp! :: VGA Bios Collection: Acer 9500M GS 512 MB
DDR3 :
techPowerUp! :: VGA Bios Collection: Acer 9500M GS 512 MB
Am I right?
Netherless, I'm still fighting for the 9600m gt case, so I'm still interested in testing new Vbios modifications!
Thank you for your advice!
Have a good day! -
Hi guys,
What's up!?!
@NetRoller3D: I see that always as much solicited, it is the ransom to be paid when one is gods of the field lol
@u6b36ef: what is it of your evolution, you found the solution with your problem??
Afflicted not to have given you a news earlier, but I gently recover all from a neurosurgical operation of my back spinal column more precisely.
Now, when I would travel by the plane, I would make sound the gantries of detection with all the scrap which I transport
Laughed enough good, let us return to what us interress.
As promised here the captures of screens, showing you or I am for the moment.
I would hold you informed of the continuation, but are not too in a hurry I function with the idle, with the anti-pains and company and I must acknowledge that I sleep more than with my practice lately.
with very soon and continue like that Oh venerated Gods of the notebook Acer.Attached Files:

@NetRoller3D :
Hi
GT330M or GT330M alternative bios ?
Which is the Best One with GT230M on 7720G ? No problem of overheating,etc...?
For my GT230M, at idle 135/135 @ 0.80V (GT230M VBIOS) : Between 52-58°c @ Temp Room 19°c, Wood Desk, No Special Cooling. -
@DoZe: The general rule is, try the regular GT 330M VBIOS first; it is the one specifically written for the card. If that doesn't work (like with the 5930G's internal display), try the alternative one.
(BTW, i advise against installing a GT 330M in a 5930G - I've recently seen a 5930G with a fried power regulator due to a combined GT 330M and X9100 upgrade. The machine showed odd graphics glitches, freezes and bluescreens that persisted even after I plugged the machine's original MXM card back in; installing a 65nm CPU together with the original card made the machine shut down during POST.
A GT 330M without a CPU upgrade may be fine, but upgrading both is apparently dangerous for a 5930G.)
EDIT: Upgrading a 7720G should be fine - the T9500 is rated for the same 35W as its 65nm cousins, while the card is only 3W above a 8600M GT. (The 5930G in question came with a 25W P-series CPU, which was upgraded to a 45W X-series one, together with the MXM upgrade.) -
Hi all,
@NetRolller : Soory to bother you again, but could you please give your view about my latest (and various... héhé) questions about the 9920g?
On my side, I should receive the 9500m gs soon (and still not so sure of what VBIOS I will flash on it...), but I said before, I'm still interested in upgrading my 9920g once and for all with my 9600m gt. I tried to edit and compare the different bios you've made, and found some differences, but couldn't interpret them... and I know, of course, it is dangerous to blindly test things when bios matters are involved... So I need your help, (if you could still give me a little bit of your precious time, of course) .
@Obiwantiti : Hi, hoping that your back will be fixed soon as well as your laptop. Can NetRolller make a VBios or a SBios for this too (hehe)? Get well soon!
Many many thanks, and I hope, that, soon, we will solve the 9920 mxm riddle (héhé).
Have a nice day, everyone! -
Hi i have Acer Aspire 5720ZG
Mobile DualCore Intel Pentium T2370, 1733 MHz (13 x 133)
Intel Crestline-PM PM965
4096 MB (DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM)
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x64
nVidia Geforce 9600M GT (PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_056710DE)
I have downloaded drivers (195.62, moded is nvac.inf just with add 2 lines for my card to section 6) from nvidia and moded them coz this card is realy "born in hell". When i am playing games which using DX3D i am gottin crashes (black screen + cool techno)

Can someone help with this... ? Yep and i have dont upgrade BIOS yet but i dont know what to do with... -
What are your CPU/GPU temps? Have you checked the fans for dust, and the thermal paste to be correctly applied? -
normaly it is something about 50 or 60 celsius but after playing warcraft 3 (dunno why but this dont crashing
) it is up to 70, fan works fine but i dont know if cooler paste is everything what is needed for instalation or i need something else
-
Hi guys,
@kycks : Thank you for your support, it's quite pleasant
and you are very near to the solution concerning the problem of koucek.
For the moment no change of vBios or sBios of the GPU nor even of motherboard (icl50) of carried out, I made only modifications of files nvac.inf
driver of GPU (currently 296.10 installed and functioning perfectly).
Then and especially also, modifications of the parameters of management of food accompanied by modifications of management of cooling of the notebook with speedfan.
Moreover, to bring an additional comfort I also use a zm nc2500plus, very practical for the option of the second HDD.
To finish, I use T7700 (65nm) which pains and attaches less the GPU, but will be very soon replaced by T9300 or T9500 (45nm), which will be still well better.
@ koucek : kycks gave you a very good councils and opinion.
I will add:
- dismount and clean properly the ventirad
- Change by this operation of thermal paste for one of better quality (kind that with silver particles)
- modify and change your driver GPU
- replace your CPU which bridles you the GPU and especially you created these assembled temperature while paining as of more possible (since wanting to provide at the request of the GPU that of which it is not able).
Look at my preceding message (n° 768 at the foot of the page 77) and consult my captures of screen, that will give you an little idea of what is possible to make at least, because one can still improved that
(as an information we have exactly same notebook and same GPU)
On these some words, I will leave you by wishing you a good upgrading for you all
and have a nice day. -
So just for memory refresh... for instalation of new graphic card into notebook i need: Cooling pad, thermal paste, that frame from burned card and brand new fan. Had i frgot on something?
(first try, first fail as usual)
btw that section is 6, right? And what means that section? -
HI guys,
@koucek : Concerning the modification of files nvac.inf, they are not only two lines to be modified, but well three...then your GPU is not roasted forcing.
Changes for a more recent driver GPU, the 295.73 or the 296.10 once function without any problems the modification carried out.
Moreover, made attention take well a version of driver GPU for notebooks and not a version for desktop
Then I did not refer to a possible replacement of fan, not need to do it except in the case or this one would be defective
I made only one allusion of a use of notebook cooler, it is completely diferent!!
Then, do not stress, read what I wrote higher, it is not more complicated if you can invest it in an another CPU (more powerful and less calorific)...you can to note the difference after.
**"ventirad" French name for the ventilator unit and radiator.
Proceed steps by steps and all should occur the best possible.
However, I repeat what is said by all here, I give you only indications which functioned very well for me and retransmit the ones to the others!!
Of course with some modifications with the wire of time and improving the best possible the upgrading.
You decide to do them or not, while being very attentive and meticulous.
Good upgrading and have a nice day. -
ok i have changed thermal paste, used your version of bios, clean up... now tempetures are somwhere about 50C, but it still faling i realy dont know what else to do with that black screen (btw it a little better now but it is still hapening) :/
-
Is your charger in good shape? The MXM card draws power directly from the charger, so any fluctuations in the charger's output can confuse it, causing mysterious failures.
Especially 3rd party chargers can be prone to this.
(An easy way to test this: Fully charge the battery, unplug the charger, and switch to a High performance power plan. Then, try to reproduce the issues while on battery. If it really is the charger, then the issues won't appear on battery.) -
I have tested it and it happen again, have you guys any other idea? Except buy ATI?
btw same kernel error... still -
HI guys,
@koucek : You are used as Speedfan to modify the values of cooling and to manage these parameters!?!
You have to modify your parameters of electrical power management??
(For that, go in management advanced of the electricals power parameters)
You carried out the control quoted by NetRoller3D!?!
Because most of the time, it points in the right direction and of us all it is one of best if it is not the best
Once more, I will tend to say to you that it would be well to think of changing CPU And not especially to change GPU, because I fear that your problem does not remain the same one.
Made test of benchmark with 3DMark 06 and vantage that could also help
and to give thus possibly an idea or indication, on what causes this problem.
I will post you all at the hour to you, captures of screen with my values obtained (with speedfan).
@NetRoller3D : I greet you, oh large Master venerated, god of our valley -
HI guys,
@koucek : As promised here captures of screen with speedfan and my temperaturesAttached Files:

how can I upgrade acer 5520g geforce 8400m g with 9600m gs? is it possible by updating bios ? please help me man !
-
Yes, it should work. A BIOS patch may be needed for full speed operation, it can be found on page 1 of this thread.
-
NetRolller can you explain it a bit? I M an amator in this business .I should download edited bios for acer5520g and flash my bios with Phoenix_Winphlash tool.then I upgrade my graphic card and that's all ?I dont understand why geforce 9650 works and 9600m gs - gt fails without bios edition.ı think 9650 is upper version of 9600m gs - gt -
The 9600M GS is probably untested.
The 9650M GT is an ASUS card, and tends to run in almost anything. Unfortunately, it's actually slower than the DDR3 version of the 9600M GS.
There is a 3rd card, the 9600M GT, which is known to work with my BIOS. Like with the 9600M GS, make sure that you get the DDR3 version.
Also, 96x0M cards with the revision code "A1" are potentially affected by the same problems as the 8000M series. Revision "C1" is recommended. -
Hi all,
@Netrolller : My 9500m gs is about to land in my mailbox : should I have to flash it with the burned 8600m gt bios, or is there another way to make it work on my 9920g? Thank you for your help.
Have a nice day, everyone!
PS : Otherwise, do you have by chance the opportunity to look for a new Vbios manipulation for the 9600m to override the 9920 mxm problem? It would be so great! -
Hi all,
I have a FSC Amilo Pro v2065 with an ATI X300 (MXM I) card and the most current version of SBIOS (Phoenix R01-A1I, 2.18.2006). Recently, I got a GeForce 9300M GS. After changing cards I end up with black screen (no beeps, no alerts, no restarting laptop). From what Ive read so far, what I need is a SBIOS mod. Can anyone point me to the right direction (SBIOS mod possibly)? Does it even possible to make the GF 9300M GS usable on my old laptop? Thanks in advance for any help.
Amilo Pro v2065, CPU: M 780, VGA: ATI X300, 128 MB, RAM: 2GB

Guys, ive tried to put my FX770M to work on my aspire 8930G but none of the bios i tried fixed the problems i was having ... I'm considering on flashing the card to a 9600GT to see if it solves it. Questions.
Since they're basically the same card, is it a viable solution? If so, which bios would you advise me and where can i get it? (kinda hard finding them >_>)
Cheers<3 -
Hi anyone knows if the following have a white list on their vbios?
Nvidia 8400m GS 256Mb MXM I

Hi guys,
Latest news from my laptop :
Previously in 9920g mystery : I was about to receive a beautiful 9500m gs, and I was eager to test it.
I have received the card yesterday, and tested it on the evening....
... IT WORKS!!!! What you have to do is put the NetRolller's SBIOS for 9920g (see the first post) on your laptop, and after that, you have to flash the 9500m gs with the bios of the 9920g 8600m gt (and not another one!). Doing this give your 9920g all his colours again, and that was great to see..
As far as my 9600m gt is concerned, I don't think I will keep it :
1) I don't play games on this laptop, So I don't need extra video power.
2) Plus, I want a card that can run under Ubuntu, without taking the risk of difficult driver manipulations to make it work properly.
Anyway, I'm a bit sad, because I really think that 9600m gt is a great card! So for the time being, I will make my mind about it, and I am still open to suggestions or testbenches.
So for the recall :
- 9920g + 9500m gs : Runs very nice on my 9920g, with the NetRoller SBIOS located on the first page, and while flashing the 9500m gs with the bios of the 8600m gt from the 9920g http://ifile.it/ths6b1d/orig8600.rom .
The card model I used : VG.8PG06.005.
- 9920g + 9600m gt : the NetRoller's 3D Sbios corrects nicely the color problem. But it runs not correctly on linux (ubuntu 11.10 in my case), because of an EDID reading issue. I tried several drivers SBIOS, and the only thing that worked (but with a very bad resolution!) is to make it run with the command "nomodeset" (see google). Seems to work correctly on Windows, but at the price of several manipulation (see the post #723 of blackened : http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...ussion-x920g-vs-9600m-gt-73.html#post8422975).
The card model I used : VG.9PG0Y.005.
@NetRolller : I still have a question to address you, if you don't mind : Do you think you could find a way to control more nicely the fan speed on linux? Because the only remaining concern I have with the 9500m gs is, in my opinion, a rather hot idle temp (around 65° to 72°). It seems that there the system focuses on the CPU temps, and that it activates the fan when this one reaches a temp of about 55°C. Thanks you for any help!
Have a nice day, everyone! -
@hycks : Why you buy not a 9650m gt because this card is excellent with a overclock .
-
Hi,
@momol51 : I would like to! But it seems that even the 9600m gt, as I have explained, doesn't work good under ubuntu, so I guess it would be the same with the 9650. If I were using windows, It would be great, but I need to run absolutely ubuntu for ma work, that why I have priviligated The safety over the performance with the 9500m gs (héhé)! Plus, I found this 9500m for a very cheap price!
Have a nice day! -
Sorry for neglecting the thread, I'm being distracted by other issues.
@Hycks: AFAIK the nouveau module has a parameter to enable power saving - it is off by default. Try enabling that. -
-
The modified SBIOS is required for all cards newer than the GeForce 8000M series - even Acer ones.
-
Today i updated vbios with the 9300 acer vbios found in page 60 in this thread, the display is now working but only in dos in windows all the colours are ed...
the colours in dos is also ed but still watchable..
Conclusion is that a special Vbios for the 9300M is needed for the card to run properly in the acer 9920G does anybody have a solution or a direct link to a vbios suitable for 9300m for the card to run properly in the 9920G machine or is this not possible ATM?
I tried tp insert a stock 9600M GT DDR3 it worked but with display errors so i used the vbios update from thefirst page and now there is only external display again...
used the command nvflash -f -4 -5 -6 9600.rom
So ATM nothing is able to runs properly on my 9920G it seems, hope some one have a fix -
Hi. Pehknowhow12, I have working 9920 (win7x64) + 9600m gt. Try this: Flash netrollers vbios on page 70 of this thread. Then go to laptopvideo2go.com, download and install driver 285.86
-
The 9500m gs card also works very well on my laptop, see my post above for further information.
It seems like the 9600m gt is able to work under windows, as Rentz and blackened described.
Good luck! -
Hi NetRolller,
Why apologizing? You already made quite an amazing work here, and don't feel sorry to have a life (héhé)!
To my side, I tried the latest nvidia drivers, and with the powermizer option, things go a little better (my temp are around 60-70°). Things would be great if I could hav access to the fan setup (I used extensively google trying to find a way to access this setup. In your opinion, do you think there is something in the Sbios that could be activated to fix this?
And one more thing : i used the 8600m gt bios, and everything works well, but it's a pity that I can't make the 9500m gs run under its true self! Have you done by chance a modified VBios for the 9500m gs, that I would have missed?
Thank you again for everything, and for the advices you could give me to "fine-tune" my 9920g.
Have a nice day! -
except when i install driver bluescreen of death...
Ive tried the 285.86 driver aswell as the one found on the first page of the thread same issue...
But works without driver...
