I found a very cheap 8600M GS and I bought it because it was almost free.
Can I make the internal display work on this one?
Thank you guys!
-
-
Install the modded SBIOS - if this results in garbled colors on the screen, then it's doable. If, however, the display remains dark, then it won't work.

Hi
I updated bios to icl50_1.45_black_edition_40.fd
(Acer5720G GF9600 laptopvideo2go version 280.36,T9300) changing
name to CL50145A.fd and using InsydeFlash. Now have access to the BIOS, I see the logo black_edition but when it logs into the system BSOD appears(SATA Mode:AHCI), when I change to IDE mode, login system stops at the welcome message and then get a black screen
burned to CD CL50142A.fd recovery was successful but the problem is the same
I burnt a DVD CL50145A.fd but the restoration has failed
Where can I get BIOS.WPH, I have only BIOS.fd -
The 5720G has an Insyde BIOS, not Phoenix.
So, the FD file is just right for recovery. (W PH is for Phoenix BIOSes.)
Simply rename the FD file to "ICL50HW.FD", burn to a CD, then use Fn+Esc to load it. -
Hi .NetRolller 3D,
I've been experimenting with Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A 1667g(Uniwill p50ca) laptop for some time.
It has MXM1 slot, originally equipped with ATI x700.
Replaced with -
HD3850, HD4650 - laptop won't turn on, it behaves like there is short-curcuit.
x1800, x1900 - works fine, however it detects 5 monitors, which is just weird)
9600 GT - turns on after ~30 sec delay, boots in BIOS and starts loading OS until OS should switch from text mode to graphics mode - then it just stays black, windows however continues to load and laods successfully, GPU-Z some what identifies video board.
There is no 'mxm structure is invalid' message, however laptop waits ~30sec with display off, so I figured I've dig in mxm structure..
So far i've been able to open BIOS with MMTool v3.19 and extract some modules from it, however I can't find mxm structure in it.
mmtool output -

PCIAddOnRom - LAN bios
So.. any advice how to find mxm structure in here?
Or.. can mxm video card function without mxm structure in BIOS?
Are mxm structures cross-compatible between different laptops?
link to my BIOS - http://uniwill.com/UserDownload/P50CA/bios/P50CA_BIOS_107.zip
Maybe you can take a look.
Thanks,
lbr -
orginal Bios 1.45 - driver 280.36 works perfect
1.45_black_edition -driver 280.36 = Black screen
driver 257.21 works good with B.edition
NetRolller 3D- Can you unlocked EIST in your acer
I don't see this option in my bios -
@paymey: You likely have a short on the DVI connector, causing the driver to always detect a DVI display plugged in - check with a multimeter.
@lbr: I think I posted a BIOS for the A1667G earlier in this thread. If not, I'll post it soon. -
@.NetRolller 3D: right - http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...cussion-x920g-vs-9600m-gt-61.html#post8304802
but ifile.it reports 'no such file'
plz repost it)
also, what was modded there? -
Forgive me NetRolller 3D, but I don't understand the answer to my question.
we have almost the same Acer and I wanted to know if you can disable the Enhanced Intel SpeedStep ® Technology (EIST) in your BIOS.
I made my own Modified INF for 280.26 they work perfectly -
In Advanced CPU configuration, disable "IST Configuration" ("Enabled" actually means "enabled and locked", while "disabled" is "disabled and unlocked", meaning that you can still re-enable it with ThrottleStop, allowing for dual-IDA).
@lbr: Link fixed.
I can't remember exactly which component I modded - I basically added a new interrupt handler for the MXM interrupt. -
@.NetRolller 3D: Thanks, flashed A1667g equipped with x1900, it works)
Will report if 9600GT works later. -
I posted this in the 7720G upgrade thread, but it's gettting burried without any looks. If it's against the forums rules to repost this, just lemme know.
I put in a GeForce 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 VG.9PG06.006 in my 7720G, but I'm getting green stripes over the black parts of my screens at the startup, as well as a rippling effect across my desktop. Normal Nvidia drivers don't recognise the card. I managed to install LV2G ones (tried the 2 latest ones and a couple of old 280xx ones), but the artifacts are still there.
The strange part is, my bios tells me the vBIOS is 62.94.4A.00.23, which seems to be the vBIOS for the DDR2 version. GPU-Z and device manager tell me I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT / GeForce GT 220M with DDR2 1024MB revision C1. What the bleep? -
It works, great thanks NetRolller 3D you are my hero!
@Kailoq- bios update to v1.45 and try this http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/500665-aspire-7720g-major-upgrade-40.html -
I came across that thread, but since my problem is different from theirs I don't think it'll help. The original topic the solution is based on can be found here: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/28981-9600m-gt-untypical-subsys/
The problem was getting the card to be recognised, because it had an untypical subsys name. I have the same subsys name, but I'm able to install any LV2G driver I want. My main problem isn't recognising the card, but artifiacts/green stripes. Also, that topic was based on a DDR3, while I have a DDR3 showing up as a DDR2. On top of that, it seems the user also changed the vBIOS, but if I do that I can't return the card to the seller.
As far as updating my bios goes, I've never tried anything like thatI thought the 9600 would work out of the box, but I'll look into it.
EDIT: I'm stuck at the get-go. The European acer site only has the 7720 listed, with BIOS 1.45 at 2.2 MB. http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_7720.html
The American site has a special page for the 7720 G, with a 1.4 MB bios. http://support.acer.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=123
How do I know which one to use?
EDIT2: The Belgian Acer site has a dedicated 7720G page as well, but the bios consists out of a single .exe, while the main european and american sites have winflash thingies. -
@ blackened87,
Hi, I keep wondering about your 9920. (Mine has gone.) Anyway about the SBIOS fan switching temperatures. I did find a free version of a program that could read/edit the laptop BIOS. When I find it I will tell you; it will be in a folder somewhere.
Yes, you see, you said that software stuff wasn't really your thing, but hardware. Anyway I tried the prog I had, a while ago, but I still got garble really. Anyway again, if you read the very early pages of this thread, you will see .NetRolller 3D gave instructions how to make the BIOS readable, 'in English', I mean. Why not try using a BIOS editor and Net's instructions. I think you'll see the fan controls clearly, and might feel happy to fix it yourself. Or at least you might write Net3D about what you find.
Anyways anyways, good luck. Btw, very good news to see you have your 9600M GT - 9920 happy.
@ .NetRolller 3D,
Hi, I just took a look for a page with blackened87's name on it to check the spelling, and randomly clicked page 75 first. Anyway there at the top of the page was a GPU-Z (version 6) image of a 9600M GT in C1 rev with 512MB GDDR3. Looks like I stand corrected, and you were right. I'll go back to previous posts, and make ammendments, if they need it, so not to mislead. My findings were mostly from extensively looking at 9600M's on ebay and relevant info, so was sure. Like, if you google G96-630-C1, you get streams of results for DDR2 1GB versions of 9600M GT. Therefor please do forgive me for being wrong.
Anyway I'd still be glad to see a tech paper showing the C1 is die shrink. (Have not seen any evidence of that yet.) That would be a nice conclusion. The C1 GS I have is certainly cool. 70'C on average, and only the most aggresive shader game aps push to a higher mere 77'C.
Otherwise, I read 'paymey's post on page 86, at 06-25-2012, 07:32 PM. I wonder if that is what I am having with the 9600M GS in the 8920. I get a boot, but blank screen. I don't know if paymey gets a boot. Anyway, maybe I'll try another driver sometime. (Leaving it for now as GPU's would need to be swapped.) -
@Kailoq: If you extract the 2 BIOSes with 7-Zip, you will find that the embedded BIOS image files are identical - only the flashing programs differ (presumably one is a DOS flasher, the other is a Windows one). The 5315, 5320, 5715, 5715G, 5715Z, 5715ZG, 5720, 5720G, 5720Z, 5720ZG, 7720, 7720G and the eMachines E510 all use the same BIOS images.
-
Thank you. I'm too scared to try it myself (since apperantly I need to make a backup of the bios too?), so I think I'll head out to my pc store and ask them to do it (and check the card's serial while they're at it).
-
Reading your original post, I suspect it's not a BIOS issue.
Can you read the serial number off of one of the card's RAM chips? -
Can you help me please?
My 9920g had an 8600M GT video card.
What if I find another 8600M GT with DDR2.
Does that mean it will not work at all or it means I can't make it work with my internal display?
Thank you! -
I am not able to detect the external display (LCD,DVI-HDMI) after changing the BIOS(BlackE.), any suggestions gentlemen
-
I'm assuming the green lines indicate a faulty chip. Drivers didn't change the appearance at all. I didn't end up updating the BIOS, because I would think an old bios would either recognise the card or give a black screen. I don't want to try updating it and possible screw up my motherboard, when I'll need to try a new card regardless. -
hi all sorry i wasn't around for a while
its summer so i was fixing my motorbike
@aikidokaboy
m8 there are 2 solutions to your problem...
no 1:
find a second hand 8600m gt with 512mb ddr2 or a 9500m gs with 512mb ddr2...
those 2 are the same card...you just need to flash the original 8600m gt vbios on the card in order to boot on the internal screen and thats all...
in this case you don't need the sbios mod.
no 2:
you can find a second hand 9600m gt with 512mb ddr3(my is revision A1-from msi)
put the damn card in the laptop and boot on a external display..
first you install the modified sbios from netroler.
next you flash the modified vbios that was confirmed working-find the one from my posts.
next you can boot normaly on the internal screen.
the picture is normal but the problem is that you can't install nvidia drivers...
now just follow my instructions for driver install and you should be fine
i am writing this reply happily form my modded 9920
@u6b36ef
for the cooling i solved it
anyway i solved it my way
i designed a small voltage regulator that i mounted on the side of the laptop...
with 2 settings-normal-load
when the switch is on normal the fan is turning on 60%,when i need xtra cooling i just flip the switch and it turns on 100%...
thats all there is to it... -
Has anyone tried or found a way to mod the bios chip on one of these toshiba gpu's? Toshiba N11P 1GB DDR3 Laptop VGA Graphic Card LS-5005P K000092390 | eBay
i have heard these don't have a bios but there is a way to mod it. I've been searching and reading for days to figure this out. I was just about to buy M60J VGA_BD./AS WO/HY_SLI part number: 60-NTSVG1000-A11 When I found out it doesnt have the bios chip either... i am going to put it in my 5720g but i want to be sure its going to work before I waste money on my old laptop.
Please someone let me know if they are found a FAQ or something on modding those toshiba VBIOS on that first card link. or If i am wrong about that asus card and it will drop in without hassel. i want gt240m/gt330m performance. I have heard they are the same chip just higher clocks on the 330m. Please someone let me know!! Thanks very much! -
Hi folks,
Been a long time since I last came here. I hope that everyone is well!
Some news about my 9920g : I'm currently really happy with my 9500m gs inside my 9920g, so I sold my 9600m gt to a friend who's currently trying to install it on its own 9920g (using Windows 7).
He followed all the stages that blackened gave in order to make the 9600m gt work on windows, but he is currently blocked at the "purple/double display screen" stage. More precisely, he managed to navigate through this crappy display to find the device manager, found the card on it, and then, he turned a bit lost, because he didn't know which .inf file to choose in the c:/nvidia/... folder.
Provided that he couldn't easily write in english, he asked me to pray for help, in order to achieve this last step before he can fully benefit from the 9600m gt power!
@blackened87 : So, my question-of-the-day is for you, you who masterizes the 9600m gt installation into the "beast" (héhé) bowels! Here it is : Could you give me precisely what is the file he has to choose on the c:/nvidia folder (he told me there are tenth of .inf files, and he doesn't know which one is the good one)? More in particular, would you be kind enough to name the entire exact file path?
It would be really appreciated, and I can already transmit all the thanks on behalf of my friend for all the great work you've already made for improving the 9920g experience (here, I am specially thinking about blackened87, and, of course the 9920g deity, netRolller 3D)!
Many thanks in advance,
Have a nice day, everyone! -
Can you please tell me which one is recommended?
8600M GT or 9500M GS?
I mean in terms of overheating which one is better?
And can you also tell me what was the plaster mold made from and which metal compound you used for binding the two heat pipes together?
Thanks a lot mate! -
@hycks:
the path:
C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\296.10\WinVista_Win7\International\Display.Driver
and choose the first inf file...i did not see the diference in them because i think that windows scans them all in the target directory...
@aikidokaboy
well the plaster mold was made out of plaster
and the compound i used was 2 component liquid metal from bison.
you have allot of diferent ones so when you go to buy pls read what are the temperature tolerances and so on...
if you dont have any xperience in this kind of fabrication i recomend that you simply dont do it or you can ruin your cooling system... -
My thanks to have answered that fast! I will give your answer to my friend, and let's hope that he will finally make it!
One more thing : my friend told me yesterday, that he managed to sometimes obtain a perfect display (using other inf, I suppose), but after a few minuts the computer tends to freeze and reboots.. Is your own 9920g stable, or did it suffer sometimes to sudden freezes and reboots?
Thank you again for your answer, and nice day to everyone! -
Damn I can't seem to find any 8600M GT or 9500M GS around.
All I found is a 9600M GS with DDR2...
I don't know what to do, I mean to buy or not to buy it... -
I've decided I'm not buying the 9600M GS...
-
What I received was a card without any VG-serial. The code on the chip itself was G96-600-C1, which seems to be a 9600M GT, but no one seems to know whether it's a DDR3 or DDR2.
Unfortunately, the card doesn't fit in my 7720G. The heat bracket on the card doesn't have containers/plugs for the heat sink's screws to fit in. It has one of these:, but my 9500M as well as the previous 9600 had little containers where the screws would fit in. This card seems to be designed for a motherboard/heatsink where the screws are inserted directly into the motherboard, instead of having plugs on the bracket/spreader/square thingie.
So I'm back to square 1. How can I figure out what model this laptop was made for? I need to know what to tell the seller so I can trade back this card for one that WILL fit. Or is there a way to attach this card to my heatsink? -
G96-6 00-C1 is 9600M G S. 9600M G T would be G96-6 30-C1.
The bracket in your picture is an MXMv3 bracket, while the 7720G is MXMv2. The usual solution to bracket problems is transplanting the bracket from your old card, but in this case, it's likely that your card is MXMv3 too, so it won't fit anyway. -
Thank you so much for the clarification, I couldn't find any info on that serial anywhere. -
About the bracket, we originally tried replacing it, but it wouldn't come off.
Do all the MxM2 brackets have plugs for the screws? If not, can I add them? If not, how can I carefully remove the bracket to replace it?
Just asking in case my replacement card has bracket problems again. -
@Kailoq
to remove the screw bracket try heating the card at about 60-70c.
the temperature will soften the glue and carefully remove it,it will still be hard to remove but it will come off.
be carefull if you are using a screw driver because you can easy damage the board...
try using a thin knife with dull edges to avoid damaging the card... -
-
dnt worry most cards run at that under load.
my ddr 2 9600m gt ran at 75c at full load for over 30minutes.
my 9700m gt ddr3 runs at 87c tops -

Dear all,
Some news about the 9600m gt wonderful installation quest in my friend 9920g (quite long, huh? hehe)!
After a long time spent installing many time times windows 7 (4 times), and many many failures, he is about to quit, but before that he wanted to try a last driver pack from laptopvideo2go.com
This one :
LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers
You have to :
Uninstall all driver
Download file on your computer.
UNzip
replace nvwi.inf by the modified inf files (to be downloaded on the wite).
Restart PC
Install setup.exe
According to him, installing this seems to make things easier for the recognition of 9600m gt (no need to struggle with the violet/divided display)...
... but, alas, the same freezing pattern happens as when he used the 296.10 drivers. He tried a lot of versions (259.47, 275.33, 295.73, 301.42, 302.59), and no matter the driver installed, he managed to use the computer only for a few minuts (it freezes when he wanted to go to the dxdiag). He managed to check the temps, and they are normal (max to 48°C under load : he made the fan blow at max speed with a small mod, that's why)
That's why he desires to pray for help to the only other person who managed, as far as I know, to make the 9600m gt work on the 9920g, namely Mr Blackened!
@blackened : Is it possible for you to test the 304.79 driver pack? Normally, it should be easier to install if you follow the steps described above , and it should achieve to futfill the goal to propose an easy replacement for the 8600m gt in the 9920g!
More in particular, if the install is a success, could you please provide :
- Windows performance index
- dxdiag report
- and, if you have it, 3dmark result
Could you also give the name on which the card is recongnized in the device manager?
Of course, it's up to you to do or not these manips, we could easily understand that you don't desire to brzeak a system that works... but it could help us sooo greatly!
If you can't (or don't want to... héhé) do all the installing stuff, there's another weird thing about which you can help us: after following your way to install v295.10 drivers, he has to reboot the computer, when you say that, in your case, "everything went back to normal, without the need to restart". On this very point, it seems that we have a difference. may be if we try the .inf file you use, things should be different? Would you be kind to post it on the forum? Thanks soooo much
One last thing : would you be kind enough to make a rather detailed "step-by-step" desciption of your way to install driver, including the folder paths, the exact files to choose... as if you wanted to tell a total noob to do this kind of manip... To be sure we haven't forgotten anything in our install process
I know we ask you a lot, and we would like to thank you in advance for all the help ypu've already provided, and for everything you could provide in the future. You are our last hope, otherwise the 9600m gt will fall in the dark side of the wastebox. Please don't let such a sad thing happen. (héhé)
Waiting for your answer, and for other folks, feel free to particpate, any help would be appreciated!
Have a good day, everyone! -
@Hycks: Try using PowerMizer Manager to disable PowerMizer. In my experience, this cures 90% of mysterious GPU-related BSoDs (at the cost of higher power draw / shorter battery life)
-
@NetRolller : Hi Netrolller, long time no see... I wish you are well! It's always a pleasure to talk with the one who freed the 9920g full power (eerrr... for the ones using Windows, sob!), and I know how valuable are your advices! I will give the info to my friend, hoping that it will cure the freezing curse... Thank you for your participation, and I will come back to tell you the results of Powermizer disabling!

Hello NetRoller. I flashed my 7520g with 5520g MXM bios and 9600GT works just fine, but i have another issue - i can`t enable AHCI mode in bios i need to make SSD i have to function at its full potential.
Every other choice i make other than IDE just makes both disks disapear bios can`t see them in boot list. Win7 setup see those disks but refuses to install there because considers them non bootable.
Furthermore after selecting AHCI in bios, save and restart - opening bios shows only IDE option selected again. Is there any way to fix that issue or i should get used to SSD in IDE mode? -
I installed a nvidia 9600m gt 512mb ddr3 in my aspire 6920g today. I have been using your bios for some time now and thought that I would just be able to swap in the card and boot up with no problems. However, I get a black screen until the windows login screen. I searched for the acer bios for the video card and flashed that just to see if it had the wrong vbios or something and it still does the exact same thing. Anything else I could try?
-
Ok guys I have some news about the Acer 9920g.
I have two of them right now.
On the first one I have installed a 9500M GS with a vbios from the 8600M GT and it works perfectly.
On the second one I have installed the modded bios from .NetRolller 3D and also I have installed the famous 9600M GT with DDR3 also with the modified vbios from this forum.
I have to make a note here that the modded bios for the 9920g and the modified vbios for the 9600M GT are the ones recommended by blackened.
The first start was marvelous and it started on the internal display.
But I have to say I had winXP previously installed on this machine with the original 8600M GT drivers.
I tried to go to safe mode but it didn't work so I said ok let's install everything again from scratch.
Then I modified the boot order from the bios so I can boot from the DVD drive and start the installation process.
I inserted the windows disk and I started the procedure.
When I was asked where do I want to install the new windows copy I realized that I have to remove the HDD drives and make a backup because previously I didn't save any data from those two drives.
Well I unmounted the drives and saved the data and then mounted the drives in again.
Then something strange started to happen.
My beloved 9920g didn't want to start on my internal screen anymore.
So I removed the back plate and disconnected the small round motherboard battery.
I pressed the power on/off button from my 9920g and it started again on the internal display.
Then I turned my 9920g off again and I connected the small round battery to the motherboard.
After this I pushed the power on/off button of my 9920g and to my surprise it didn't start on my internal display.
I turned it off again and disconnected the small round battery from the motherboard.
Then I turned the 9920g on and again it started on my internal display.
This time I changed my strategy and i restarted it again with the small round battery disconnected from the motherboard.
No need to say that my 9920g decided not to start on the internal display.
After many connections and disconnections of that small round battery I have only one conclusion.
My 9920g starts on the internal display only if I disconnect that battery and only if it's the first start after the disconnection.
On the second or third or whatever restart with the disconnected (or connected) battery it doesn't want to show anything on my internal display.
I have to make a note that all this time the big laptop battery was removed from the laptop and every time I disconnected the small round battery from the motherboard I also unplugged the laptop from the power source so I can properly reset the bios.
The problem is why does my 9920g start on the internal screen only if I reset the bios?
Any clues or ideas guys ( .NetRolller 3D, blackened)? -
I have an update on this matter.
Because of this problem I am having right now I decided to remove the 9600M GT from the bios modded 9920g.
Then I mounted the 9500M GS with the 8600M GT vbios.
I started the bios modded laptop and now it acted very normal and I was able to install windows and everything worked just fine.
Except for one thing. And that is the temperature of the 9500M GS which was rising from 70 degrees Celsius to over 80 degrees without any work load.
I just sat in front of the laptop watching the temperature rising just like that.
My problem is that the 9500M GS worked very well in the laptop with the original 9920g bios and also the temperature of the gpu was rarely above 60 degrees Celsius.
It reached almost 70 degrees only a few times but I was really pushing the laptop to the limit.
So the conclusion is that the 9500M GS acts very normal in the laptop with the original 9920g bios but starts overheating in the laptop with the modded 9920g bios.
I think this modded bios has some problems with the cooling policy and I really hope I didn't burn my 9600M GT because of that.
Any opinions on this guys?
P.S. .NetRolller 3D do you think you can add a feature on this modded bios so we can force the laptop fan to start at maximum speed?
