Are you sure you did a good job on putting thermal paste on the GPU?

I think I have some news guys!
I have removed the 9500M GS from the bios modded 9920g and I have installed it again in the laptop with the original bios.
I've checked the temperature and I can confirm that in the non modded bios laptop the gpu very rarely goes above 60 degrees Celsius and this happens only when I push it.
So I definitely think there is a big problem with the modded bios in terms of temperature management or something like that.
Also in the non modded 9920g with the original bios the fan stays almost all the time on high.
In the bios modded 9920g it never runs on high and it stops from time to time.
So I have no clue what is going on but I really do not understand why the temperatures are so different from one laptop to another using the same 9500M GS and the same cooling system.
Any ideas guys?
Thank you! -
Well, I recompiled the ACPI DSDT in the modded BIOS with a compiler newer than the one used in the stock BIOS,that could somehow be the cause.
Can you test if the fan spins up in response to heavy CPU load, but no GPU? -
-
Hey NetRoller, do you have any news for me?
-
@.NetRolller 3D
Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A1667g and A3667g are working with nVidia 9600m GT after flashing your BIOS, though I do get some screen flickering probably cause of PowerPlay(or whatever it is called in nVidia).
Thanks! -
@Kailoq, RE-BackPlate
I bought these - 20 x M2 2mm BZP Machine bolt + 20 nuts + 20 washers Total 60pcs | eBay

Reporting success with a 9300M GS 256MB (DDR2) on a 5920G that bumpgated two years ago.
Thank you NetRoller. You're an hero! -
@lbr: Can you please upload your VBIOS (not SBIOS)? I recently had issues upgrading an A3667G to FX 770M (cross-flashable to 9600M GT), none of my VBIOSes worked with the internal display.
-
Hi Netroller. So you can`t tell anything yet on my 7520G AHCI problem?
-
hi NetRolller if you have older versions Black Edition(with IST Configuration Acer 5720), please share.
I check if older versions don't have problem with external monitor.
Does anyone have bios 5720G (allowing for dual-IDA) and has no problems with detection external LCD.
thanks for support -
Hello, this is my first post.
Recently my 5920G overheated with 8600M GT, and since this is the second time (already reboiled once) it crashes I'm planning to replace it. I've read much of the information in this thread and others, but this is the first time I replace my graphics card and I feel I lack the basics.
I would really appreciate if you could recommend which one to buy, between 9600GS or 9600GT, which are on my budget. And could you also please recommend some link, tutorial or overall steps I should take? I have no knowledge about all that BIOS staff and I my screen is permanently black anyway.
Thanks in advance -
Find yourself 9600GT, thats the best card you can fit in this lptp imho. I once was lucky to find it for only 80$ -
Thank you, I found some interesting offers for that card. Do I have to install the modded BIOS shown in the first post? Would I be able to do so with no screen?

Hello netttroller 3d could you help me I bought a graphics card Nvidia GeForce 9500M GS G84-625-A2 512 MB DDR2 MXM II LS-3581P for an acer 9920 but same black screen on external screen?
be it Flash the motherboard so that his works? -
Hi there guys!
I have a poor aspire 5720G with a poor 60Gb Corsair sataII SSD and a "brand new" CPU, c2duo [email protected]. Lately I changed my 2x1Gb DDR2 667MHz to 1x2Gb DDR2 @ 800 MHz, planning to go for 2 more gigs if that one worked. And since I bothered I thought I should also take the graphics a notch up and expect an ATI mobility radeon (which will be a pain in the a** to get it working I start to believe...).
I had tried icl50 BlackEdition in the past but dropped it because i couldn't find out how to solve problem with the SSD not being able to wake from hibernation. Now I flashed it in again trying to get my memory working @800MHz(and while expecting to install new graphics), which I still haven't been able to do, whatever I may change in the bios' SPD and ram settings.
SPD settings in CPU-Z has 3 lists, 266 CL4, 333 CL5 and 400 CL6 (so 533, 667 and 800 MHz DDR2 respectively), module recognized as PC-6400 but cpu-z always reports DRAM timing 667 CL5.
Any ideas if there is any way to run my RAM @ 800? And maybe how to solve the hibernation thing of the SSD, I have tried like a million changes of ACPI settings etc...
**I should notice that 5720G "wears" Intel PM965, which means 200MHz FSB. Also, Crucial's little memory compatibility guide gives me 2 options for my laptops memory upgrade, 667 and 800 MHz, but I couldn't clear that part in datasheets or manuals.
Sorry for being a pain in the a** but maybe we could help some other poor guys like me out there.... -
**** Edit: Problem solved, now its working, read below my original post ****
Hello everyone!
@ .NetRolller 3D and/or @ u6b36ef:
I have got an Acer 8920G that i bought with an ati radeon mobility HD 3650 built into it. (Windows 7 x64 running on it)
A view days ago i downloaded the modded SBIOS for the 8920G from the first post. (Big thanks to .NetRolller 3D for all his effort!!)
I flashed it with winphlash64. Everything went fine, in BIOS I have now the "workaround .." option with many submenues (didn´t touch anything there).
The I installed a 9600M GT 512MB DDR3 A1 graphicscard which came from an Acer Aspire 6920G (that was the information I got from the seller, GPU-Z tells me it has an Acer bios on it). There was no problem installing the card, also before that I removed the ati driver from Windows (as good as I was able to).
Then I switched on the system and I got a black screen until windows had booted. So no post or BIOS screen.
I connected the 8920 then via VGA to my TV an booted it up once again. Now I got an post screen and also I could enter the BIOS. Still no output on the internal screen until Windows had booted up.
I read the whole thread an came across a post from u6b36ef in which he mentioned, that he still uses .NetRolller 3D´s first SBIOS on his 8920 an had no problems with displaying BIOS on the internal screen.
My question is now, if one of you could please upload the first version of .NetRolller 3D´s SBIOS for the 8920G?
Thanks in advance!
Greetings Supermalloy!
************** Edit *******************
Now it works!!! The SBIOS from post 1 in this thread works, it was the VBIOS that caused the "problem"...
After some little more reading in this thread i got an link from u6b36ef to this VBIOS techPowerUp! :: VGA Bios Collection: Acer 9600M GT 512 MB .
Well, on my 9600m gt there was the version Acer.9600MGT.512.080630 flashed for the 7730G.
After flashing the version of the link (Acer.9600MGT.512.080619) and a reboot I had BIOS on the internal screen!!! ^^
(just to mention it, both versions are for 512MB DDR 3 cards, not to use with 512 or 1024MB DDR 2 cards!!!)
So thanks again to .NetRolller 3D and u6b36ef for your hard work and very helpful posts! ^^ -
Hi!
Acer 4720G and 9600M GT works in 3D an economic mode, frequencies the maximum 250 MHz from 550, whether there is no solution of this problem?
I am sorry for bad English -
crucial probably recommend 800mhz ram because it can downclock itself to 667mhz.
your laptop will not run ram at that speed though. thats why -
@ .NetRolller 3D,
I got round to putting right in my posts that 9600M GT come in C1 GDDR3 variety. Anyway while I was re-reading from about page 50 onwards, I saw you mentioning power consumption at some point.
For looking at GPU power use:
I saw recently in Sisoft Sandra, under the hardware tab, "displays and video processors". There you can read "Maximum Power", for the GPU people have in your laptops.
Mine happen to be:
9600M GS = 25W
9600M GT =35W
Also a while ago I mentioned a then newly released app called 'Joulemeter' from Microsoft.
You know, just saying, for people to use.
Oh yeah, something else. You mentioned a higher failure rate for 9600M GT GDDR3 variety. I wondered whether I might have found out why.
I fairly recently opened my 8920 up, straight after gaming, and the MXM II brackets over the RAM modules were scorching. The ram plates are not connected to the cooling plate from the heatsink. I think they must be getting too hot. Anyway I put in some thermal pads to connect the cooling plate to the ram plates. The core doesn't cool as well but the RAM is running cooler. I feel much better about it.
Picture showing thermal padding between black heatsink plate, and grey RAM plates.
(Also a download link for the pic, since the inserted one doesn't show up much: " DSC04970 - Copy.JPG ")
As 8930's are native territory for 9600M GT's, and they use the same MXM II brackets. Then maybe that accounts for GDDR3 failures. Maybe the RAM gets too hot and dies. -
Hello could you help me I bought a graphics card Nvidia GeForce 9500M GS G84-625-A2 512 MB DDR2 MXM II LS-3581P for an acer 9920 but same black screen on external screen?

Hello,
I am looking for advice about graphics card for Acer Extensa 5620G. Actually i run on HD2400XT and want upgrade but i am not sure which graphics card is compatible with my laptop.
I found out at this topic that Extensa 5620 has the same hardware as Extensa 5210, 5220, 5610 or Travelmate 5320, 5720 and eventually 7720 (not sure). Some people at this topic tried 9600M on that hardware but with few issues. Would 9600M work on my laptop?
If not what graphics card i should try as alternative? Eventually Radeon HD 3650 will work without issue. Will work Radeon HD 4650 too (i think it is better than 9600M but i rather choose Geforce because of Linux compatibility)?
I have last question about cooling system. My Acer Extensa 5620G has very poor cooling system, accordint to me. Is there necessary any update?
Thanks for any advice and guiding.
PS: @.NetRolller 3D a link on the first page for Extensa 5620G has no updated link, its broken. -
@ AXE_CAMZ,
I don't quite understand what you have done. If you have put your 9600 in your 5920 without updating the laptop BIOS, you will get black screen. (No backlight, since no post.)
That's what Net Rolller said in the opening statement about the thread.
If you updated, with Net's BIOS, then you have other issues. You will have to read through; everything's covered on the 5920.
@ raspuotine67
I'm quite sure the LS3581-P is a HP release 8600M GT, (though maybe that code relates to all cards fitted to a particular laptop). I had one in my 5920 some time ago. Isn't it a blue card. Anyway the 9500 and 8600 are the same G84 core. My HP was a G84-600 though, and the Acer MSI were G84-625.
Anyway the Acer issue BIOS should show up externally right, as fully discussed. Therefor we'd expect yours to. I suggest you back up the copy of the BIOS on the VGA you have, and flash it to the 8600M GT VBIOS that runs the 9920. You will have to do these ops blindy, if you have no image. Don't worry about changing the vBIOS. The one I had, I changed the vBIOS on, and later changed it back a couple of times. -
Hi again NetRoller, i`m still hoping you can help me with my non-functioning AHCI problem at my 7520
-
Hello i have an ACER 8920g and it seems that my graphics card has died on me, it is a 9500m gs. What graphics card would you suggest to buy, so that i also have an upgrade in graphics too? Thank you in advance
-
Hello
This thread helped me a lot.
Nagyon de nagyon köszönöm Netroller. Az ilyen értékes és önzetlen emberek mozdítják elő a világot. Üdv Erdélyből. -
Book marking for a planned future upgrade of an old lappy.
Thanks guys & keep up the great work! -
I've seen few people complain about black screen after Windows loads on Aspire 7720g and GeForce 9600m. I have same problem and it seems that drivers version 259.47 from laptopvideo2go help. Hopefully I'll manage to find some newer drivers that work fine too.
-
@AndrejaKo: Do you get black screen instantly when Windows loads, or do you have proper display for a few seconds, and then black screen? If the latter, I likely have a fix for that.
(BTW, yes, I'm back.) -
@.net : i have a problem on my 9920g, impossible install my new memory crucial ct25664ac800 (2go) because black screen on start computer. i have your mod bios. With my corsair 1go 667mhz, not problem. thank you
-
NetRolller 3D: thank you very much for your great work.
I have already flashed two 9920g with your modded SBIOS and it works perfectly! I am writing from one of them working with a 9500M GS 512Mb recognized as a 8600M GT.
I managed to start the 2nd 9920 with a 9600M GT after flashing it with your VBIOS for 9600M GT. The display is OK but in Windows 7 64 bits, it stays in VGA mode because I haven't found the correct drivers yet.
Could you help me please?
I have another favor to ask you:
Now I'm trying to install a 9300M GS 512Mb, Model: VG.9MG06.003, Acer BIOS, but it is smaller than a 8600M, a 9500M or a 9600M. Is it normal?
The display with the original BIOS of my 9300M is very bad. That's why I'd like to download your VBIOS for 9300M GS but the download link above doesn't work. Could you please re-post this BIOS?
Thank you in advance -
@rufdolf: Here you go: download - filecloud.io
Yes, it's normal if the card is smaller - it's an MXM-I card, the others are MXM-II. -
Hi! I have an acer 5920G. It had a nvidia 8600M GT and I want to install a nvidia 9650M GT card. Can I do that? Will your bios fix it? The problem is that the card ok but it isn't recognized from the computer as a nvidia 9650M GT but as a standard graphic card.

Hi! I have an aspire 5720G, and my 8400m GS gone, so I decided to swap it to a 9600m GT (512mb DDR3). I have ordered one with Acer bios, and i've put it in, everything went fine, until I wanted to install the driver. First, I've downloaded the driver from Nvidia.com, it didn't even notice that there is an Nvidia card in the laptop so didnt install at all. After that i've discovered Laptopvideo2go.com, and downloaded some infmodded drivers, but when I installed them, the screen randomly gone black, (sometimes got BSOD too.) I have tried the .NetRoller's blackEdition Bios mod, but didn't help. Can you help me out what causes the problem? (I use W7 x32 and Ubuntu 11.04, both of them has the problem.) I found an old driver for w7 which works well, but I'd like to update it to a newer driver.
-
@ csabessz93,
I think others have mentioned this. You might do well to read back through maybe the last 25 pages. I think .NetRolller 3D made a full reason why. Yours is a good example laid out of the issue, I think.
I think also I made a slight mistake my self. I had the driver approx. 285 installed, running with a 9600M GS. Only yesterday, I updated to the latest nVidia version. There was one thing I have been left wondering, and another I found out.
1. If I change and put my 9600M GT in this laptop, will it run. It might be difficult to re-install driver ver. 285.xx. Windows will re-install on re-boot ver. 306.97, after I un-install ver.306.97. (I'm sure I'd get there in the end though.)
2. Driver ver. 285.xx gave a couple more 3D marks than ver. 306.97. Though nVidia say some games preform higher with the new driver though, on the driver page details. -
hi...
i successful upgrade my 6920g..
cpu, fm t8100 to t9500.
graphic card, gf 9500gs to gt 240m.
for the cpu, i need to reinstall previous driver for t8300 and install new one to make it work.
before that, my laptop always reboot on short time.
for the graphic card, i have problem to install the driver fm nvidia website, official driver.
it detect as a standard vga.
so, i try install manually via device manager, assigned it to nvidia gt 240m, successful.
think after that can install latest driver fm nvidia but it still same problem, cannot verified the device.
try to update online, it state that i need the driver fm device manufacturer.
so, do i need to flash the vbios fm acer, like gt 240m for acer 7738g..??
is it possible..??
the card i bought is asus fm this link, Aliexpress.com : Buy Geforce GT 240M N10P GS A2 1GB DDR3 MXM II VGA Card Video card for ASUS C90 C90s C90P Acer Aspire 5520G 5920G AS5920 AS5520 from Reliable C90 suppliers on Nicole Kyong's store
this is my laptop screenshot, View attachment 85710
so, any solution..
thank in advanced.. -
I tried reading through the whole thread but, I gave up after around 15 or 20 pages there is just so much information. I have a 5920G and would like to flash to a modded bios and figured one with a correct MXM structure would be a good idea since i'm gonna flash anyways.
I have a 4670 and in the early pages of the thread one user who had a 4670 had his 5920 bork (bad flash). I want to know if it is safe (safer?) to flash my 5920G. I plan on putting a GT240M in it and a T9300 or even an x9000 is i can trade my 4670 for x9000. I run a VM and VT-x would be cool (modded bios allows this). would be way cool if we could adjust the FSB in the bios if one has modded PLL but, i would think that isn't possible or risky to add to the bios. I'm straying off topic (sorry) but, does any one know what page/thread i need to read to unlock my FSB? Also maybe some info on how/what dualIDA works/is? -
I use a T9500 CPU at my 5920g, works fine. I can even overclock it using throttle stop (FID 14.00). Dual IDA works. - Originally, I've used this BIOS for my Acer 5920g (Aspire 5920G BIOS 3813 MOD R3.rar): http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/480992-acer-laptop-phoenix-bios-bios-mod-request-60.html
I've just flashed the MXM-corrected bios 5920G_MXM_V3.WPH at page 1 of this thread. It worked fine for me too. -
Here is the link for activating DUAL IDA: http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...c-acceleration-ida-both-cores-core-2-duo.html

Dear .NetRoller 3D
apologies if this question has already been asked but is it possible to use GDDR3 ram in place of GDDR2. I have an Acer 5920g laptop whose graphics card is most probably gone (as I can see various colourful lines all over the screen. Can I buy ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 DDR3 to work in it??
thanks
Prash -
Given that the video RAM is controlled by the GPU, not the motherboard, you should be able to use a video card with any kind of video memory. Just like in a desktop.

Hi everyone, i'm new around here.
I'm thinking about upgrading my Aspire 7720G. I have an option for a T9300 (currently it is powered by a T7500) and a NVIDIA Geforce 9600m GT 512 MB GDDR3. (currently a 8600m GT)
It should be possible to fit these components in my laptop. The biggest question for me, is how do i get it to work?
Do i first replace the components, or do i first flash to a different bios? ( at the moment i'm using an original bios: v1.2)And if i first need to flash the bios, do i flash it straight to the version mentioned at the beginning of this thread? (the one for an 5720?)
I know, i know, a lot of questions for a newbie. And yes i used search and what-not, but my brain started to melt because of the informationoverflow
Thanks in advance for the advice.
Regards,
Bjorn a.k.a. NouNou -
It's recommended that you flash the BIOS first. Especially the T9300 can cause problems with older BIOSes.
And yes, you can flash directly to the latest version, no need to flash any intermediate versions.
