I think it does iJoe. I got a DDR2 9600M GS which runs so cool. (I mean 70'C max.) I noticed the fan does spin so high so loud anymore. The CPU is doing the same work, as it plays the same games.
If I am wrong I am sorry and didn't mean to misinform anyone. Sure I must be right though.
(P.S. If anyone's interested, the DDR2 9600M GS, with T9300, scores 4448 in 3d Mark 06. Stock clocks - 1280x800)
-
Yes, it SHOULD spin up if GPU Temp rises, but it won't. I think that fan controller -normally- makes an average temperature of the CPU AND GPU and then it select the fan speed. With my old 8600 GT the fan was spinning higher and the temperature were lower (even though TDP was lower, 20 vs 35). The problem is in the SBIOS ACPI tables, but I don't have the experience to try make some changes.
-
Bump!
Anyone have a solution? -
It sounds to me that you may have faulty GPU, but you say it works fine with another notebook. Strange indeed. At least one of those 14 vBIOSes should have been MXM-II and working. What are the markings on the chip itself? If it's 216-0729042 - 4650, if it's 216-0729051 - 4670. So if it's the second you could try and edit the boot values of one of those vBIOSes to 680(default speed for 4670)/600 (core/memory) to see if this would change something.
Maybe it's motherboard incompatibility. Which revision do you have? It is located either under the keyboard (requires full disassembly), or under the black tape under the GPU.

With this card, Windows shows me that I have two sound cards installed: the Realtek one and AMD High Definition Audio Device. The last one is always reported as "not connected", even if i connect my PC to a TV with HDMI cable. And yes, I've tried like 5 different HDMI cables, none of them makes the audio work.
Anyway, my PCB is identical to this one: http://mxm.borec.cz/Pictures/Mobility-Radeon-HD-4670.jpg
If look closely, you will see that under the GPU core there is a Part Number: 109-B80631-00A. If you search it, you will find images of the HD4650 1GB DDR2, Acer brand! What has this to do with my card? Nothing, I think. VBIOS clearly reports another Part Number (113-EA6100SS-F02). Also, my PCB doesn't have any brand on it. The Acer's one have the AMD brand and is also colored in red, instead of blue.
Last year I got this card replaced for another one because I flashed one of those 4650 BIOSes and I was so dumb that I couldn't find a way to blind flash. These days, for me, it's almost an hobby

Can Speedfan be used as a temporary fix? Personally I could never figure out the fan control aspect of Speedfan, but you may have the patience for it. It might work and I think it had an option to start up when you boot, with settings in place. (Don't quote me on that though.) There are vids on youtube to see how to set up fan control. You maybe able to get it to run a fan at X speed when Y temp - but I don't know.
-
More likely Fan control utility, but it's quite pain in the a$$ to tune it (I've never found time and patience to do it
).
Sounds like incompatibility issue - all of it. Which driver are you using? The latest is 13.9, if you haven't already, try to remove your current one (run the installer > select Uninstall), then under Safe mode run Driver sweeper, reboot and install the new driver. If this doesn't fix it, I seriously don't know what could be. Well there is actually one last option - your Windows is seriously botched and needs fresh install. -
Hello,
I have an Acer Aspire 5720g with a Nvidia 8400GS which is giving artifacts. So I'm trying to replace it with an other card I had laying around. It's a romless Nvidia FX570m from an HP 8510w laptop.
First I tried to extract the vbios from the sbios of the HP laptop. I believe I was succesfull at that, (but the file is only 58.880 bytes. So I'm not sure if the file is complete.)
After that I tried to replace rom '8DFAE5D4-B50E-4C10-96E6-F2C266CACBB6_300' from the 'icl50_1.45_black_edition_40.fd' sbios with the extracted vbios. But phoenixtool256 kept crashing on saving the file. Then I tried to manually pad the file to the size of the original replaced rom.
With the padded file phoenixtool saves the new bios without errors.
After flashing this edited bios the screen stays black and the backlight stays off with the 570m. With the original GPU it still boots without problems as expected.
Who can help me to edit the bios for use with the 570m GPU?
Thanks
PS Link to the files I have. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1lulc2iwu67jxbm/bios.zip -
I am suprised the HP FX570M is ROM-less. The GeForce equivalent HP 8600M GT has BIOS and is plug and play in Acers. I used to have one on blue PCB. Same BIOS.
I may well be wrong, but are you sure. -
Heya folks.
There are a couple of questions I have (well, actually one primary question). I acquired an Acer Aspire 9920G with a faulty 8600m graphics card (already tried to cook in the oven with no succes, afraid previous owners already fried the card)
I bought a nVidia 9600M GT (Ill get it tomorrow), the card comes from an Acer Aspire 7730G-644G32mn.
My question now is; the card I will get has DDR2 memory but the bios download in this topic is for a DDR3 version of the 9600m. Is there something I need to change with a bios editor (and if so, what), or is there another bios file for this? -
@ iJo09,
Other folks having problems with 4650's.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/396320-acer-mxm-models-cards-250.html
This is odd coz I thought the 4650/4670 were plug and play in all Acer. I wonder if there are some folk selling a few bad ones. I recall Triturbo mentioning 3650 problems recently I am sure.
I am wary of buying a replacement 9600M for my 8920. They are becoming old cards now and I think increasing numbers of them on sale will be repaired ones. -
Couldn't get the 9600m GT working. But I did get a 8600m GT (VG.8PG06.003). Did a blind backup of the old 8600m bios, flashed it on the new card and everything seems to be working. So, yeah, Im happy
Could upload the original nVidia 8600m GT for the 9920G bios file if people are interested? -
I don't understand why people keep buying 9650m's and thinking they're the fastest Nvidia MXM 2's. People are better off with the GT 240m. Used new arrival 5920 5920G GT 240M GT240M DDR3 1GB MXM II laptop video card graphic card computer components laptop parts vga-in Graphics Cards from Electronics on Aliexpress.com It is in fact a GT 240m as it says "N10P-GS" on it which is the codename of GT 240m's and as you can see, it is a blatant MXM 2 card. I'm going to get one soon to put into my 5710g and will post the results. If it's plug and play like the 9650m GT, then it will make that completely obsolete due to it being much more powerful while retaining the same TDP.
It's only 3% less powerful than the 4650, and has a much, much lower TDP at 23w. Because of this, it can be overclocked to match the performance of the 4650 and in some cases, best it. -
@ White Dust,
Your back-up copy of the 9920G 8600M GT vBIOS might come in handy to someone.
The 9920G vBIOS used to be listed on the TechPowerUp website. I don't know if it is anymore, coz there are only three 8600M GT vBIOS's listed. There used to be about six. -
8600MGT-DDR2-9920.ROM. That's the backup file.
On a side note, if I would upload the original bios of the 9600m GT 1024MB DDR2, could someone mod it to work on the 9920g? Or is it too difficult? Thanks in advance -
Good evening everyone, I'm very tired from my situation. My 8600m gt burned out, owen trick and professional infra owen without response, still whitescreen and vertical lines.
I hae chence of gratis 9300m gs, but from Asus F8s. Is there any chance for it on 5920g? Thank you! -
-
I just experienced the oddest thing (well, perhaps not).
I ordered a 9600m GT 512MB DDR3 via AliExpress, though, it turned out they shipped a Quadro FX770m 256MB DDR3 (a quality sample on top of that).
Installed this card in my 9920g, and, well, it booted. With distorted colors, but it did boot (external monitor gave the right colors). The card didn't run for long, I assume it got way to hot, but it was interesting, non the less. -
Thanks in advance to whoever can help me.
I have an acer aspire 9920 (not 9920G) I bought a video card 9600M GT 512 mb I installed the VBIOS 9600mgt-ddr3-9920g.rom CV120_MXM_V2.WPH and I installed everything ok, but I no longer get into the bios, and when I start the pc in the lower left is no longer the written press F2 for boot menu.
Think we missed something, it is a problem that has found some other user?
Sorry if this problem has already been solved but the search did not find anything about it.
The only thing that I have not yet tried to do is put on the old bios v 1.20.
P..
To install the bios I booted from a USB key and freedos I launched the file phlash16.exe before but I renamed the file in CV120_MXM_V2.WPH bios.WPH.
The procedure is successful, the handset is operating normally not more so, however, to enter the bios
thanks -
Hi to everybody in this forum. This is my first time writing in here and I decided to write for help and to help other people in here. I have a laptop Acer Aspire 7720G pre installed with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit and now I have Windows 8.1 Pro with media installed and it's a very good laptop which I have been working with it since I have bought and released from the first time which it is excellent but the only problem was about Virtualization Technology that was hidden in the bios that was really annoying me as I was searching around looking for a modified bios for my Acer laptop and at last suddenly which I thank god that I found this website very useful cause I found what I wanted and I tried the modified icl50 1.45 mxm edition 30 for Acer Aspire 7720G that was excellent. Please is it possible whenever to be included in the bios1.45 in the (Security) or (Boot) option (Secure Boot Configuration) to be included? Because when I go from Windows 8.1 in the (Advanced options) missing tile (UEFI Firmware Settings) there are some images that I included to see. Or if there is a way what to do please tell me?

Finaly found a working 9600m GT DDR3 bios for my 9920g! After a painstaking search I ended up at a french forum, with a link to a french.... uhm.... 9920 fanpage: Téléchargement - ACER ASPIRE 9920
I have extracted the vbios from the download package (it seems that the bios.wph is the same as the CV120_MXM_V2.wph and the other bios files from that package are bugged)
9600MGT-DDR3-9920.rom
This one is based on the Acer bios version 62.94.38.00.04 -
Swapped the 8600 of a 5920G with a 9300GS from a 5930G.
Black screen and no post.
Flashed modded bios from first post (supposedly to support 9600GT) and the 9300GS worked perfectly.
THANK YOU!!!!!!! -

hi i have an acer aspire 5920g and got an nvidia geforce 9650m gt 1gb ddr2 ,, iam running official bios latest edition and managed to install only 259.47 drivers on my pc with win 7x64(on every other driver messege was no compatible software found) my problem is that my pc freezes a lot with no obvious reason and its just been formatted.. Will my problem be solved if i flash the modded bios for 5920g????
-
Firstly you could try modded drivers from laptopvideo2go. Secondly, download GPU-Z and tell us what kind of temps you see, anything above 90ºC is not good and if it goes above 100, then you know why it shuts down - thermal shut-down.
-
my temps are 56-65 in idle and around 70-76 in firefox. which modded driver shall i choose is there any known stable one??? its not shuting down just freeze everything..
sometimes i get a black screen but the pc works in backround.. will the modded bios help??? -
have a 8920g and bought Quadro FX 770 256MB 488605-001 HP mainly cause it was cheap

should i try a different vbios? -
hi! i am sorry! my english is bad! My notebook is 7520G
I need your help! my stock videocard geforse 8600M GS has died.
I have bought a new card 9500M GS.
But now I have a problem. Then the notebook start i have the message - mxm structure not found or invalid.
Can you help me? I need a mod bios for my 7520G.
Where can i take it? Thanks! -
I don't think there was a fixed BIOS for your machine. You could try the 5520G one at your own risk (link on the first page). Good luck!
-
Yes, it looks like 5520g and 7520g use that same motherboard and bios off course.
-
After reading many many things about bios changes when change mxm i couldnt find the solution.
i have Acer 7720g which had nvidia 9500m gs(mxm 2) and it became faulty so i decided to change to the cheaper nvidia 9300m gs (mxm 1).
Now, the card looks to work cuz when i open the pc the screen after a bit becomes black and everything looks works "normally" but i dont see anything even with external dvi or vga screen.
I found a blackscreen bios but i cannot install by Fn+Esc method. i rename the file icl50_1.45_black_edition_40.fd to ICL50HW.fd and leave the other bios files...(i can install normally the default bios with Fn+esc method). Is anything else i can do? -
Here is short version of my story with 5920G. (Long story is a lot more interesting but it is offtopic)
Start: Black screen with barely seen vertical line that is slightly brighter that black.
1. Got 9500m GS. Installed it and laptop does not boot. (Back screen.)
2. Installed damaged 8600m. Boots fine. But no image.
3. Tried to blind flash with WinCrysis - Fail.
4. Made an autoexec.bat and tried again - Fail.
5. Blind flash with Fn+Esc - Fail.
6. Heated 8600m with hair drier. (2100W. It can go to 160 C. I delided my gtx560ti with it) - Win. Got an image.
7. Flash from DOS. - Fail. (Himem error)
8. Flash from W7 x64. Using winphlash64 - Fail.
9. Flash from BartPE Win98. Using winphlash32 - SUCCESS.
Finish: Installed 9500m GS. Everything boots and works fine.
Great thanks to everyone in this thread. Special thanks to .NetRolller 3D for his work on fixing Acer's "issues".
Hints for people with the same Black screen problems:
1. flash using winphlash32. It is fast and you got visual output.
2. phlash16 /p will not show anything if there is any error(HIMEM). You will just stare at nothing. Spare your nerves.triturbo likes this. -
9600M GT 1024 MB vbios 62.94.4A.00.23 (p0601-0001) on 8920g
Same with fx770m 512Mb (01 trick doesnt work in this one allthough succefully flashed)
Blank screen at startup then posts when win7 drivers loaded
All bios mods same result
Can anyone help?Last edited: Dec 29, 2014 -
Hello everybody!
After my HD4670 died because of some PCB experiments, I bought a 'perfectly working' 9500M GS (Part Number VG.8PG06.005) pulled from Acer 8920G. Installed it on my 5920G, system power on and can boot, but it doesn't display anything. Only "one long two short" beep is heard at POST (it stands for Shadowing of Video BIOS failed). Even blind flashing the fixed BIOS in DOS didn't help. What can I do? -
Is posible disable 8600m GS card of a 5920 g to use internal x3100?
If it is posible, With waht BIOS? ZD13813?
Thanks! -
No, it's not possible.
-
Someone was after modding it, but he probably gave-up in the end.

Hello.
I'm going to buy: "ATI HD 3650 MXM VGA Card HD3650 256MB DDR3 VG.86M06.002". My model of P.C. is: ACER 5520G - 603G16Mi.
My old video card is': GeForce 8400M G.
My Bios is 1.33.
Is this ATI video card compatible with my computer model?
I'll have to update the bios or do anything else?
Sorry for bad English

Hello guys.
I have an Acer Aspire 5920G and recently I purchased a brand new Nvidia Geforce 9650M GT 1GB DDR2 to replace my dead 9500M GS 512MB. I've been dealing with an issue though. I've been searching the whole google for 2 days now to solve my problem (actually I haven't slept at all) which is "NVIDIA Installer cannot continue. This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware."
I have tried many drivers and all failed to process. I saw that it's a common issue with this card model. As happens to many, my notebook recognizes the display adapter as a "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". I found some websites explaining a way to modify .inf files, I did that, I managed to install some nvidia drivers but all made my screen flickering and going BSOD.
Finally, I found your forum. As you claim, it's a bios problem. I decided to update my bios v1.3811 to the one .NetRoller 3D modified in order to see if it finally works. Firstly, I tried to update it via Windows using WinPhlash.exe but it failed. It couldn't even start. It got something like that.
Then, I thought it's better to flash it via DOS. So, I did using 5920G_MXM_V3.WPH .NetRoller 3D offers at his links and phlash16 ver 1.7. Note that only this version works. If you try with another one you get a bios error saying to restart your machine but the only way to do that is to unplug the power cable.
Eventually, all went good and managed to flash my bios. But when I reinstalled Windows 7 Pro (x64bit) and tried to install any of the nvidia drivers I had already downloaded, same things happened. No process at all. Then I modified .inf files again and screen flickering came back again. After all, I googled again and found that the reason for this flickering was Powermizer. I turned it off and flickering/bsod STOPPED.
I don't know what to say. Did I waste my time googling for days and trying to resolve the issue? Was that simple? Or turning off the Powermizer isn't the best solution ever? I'm looking forward to your response and opinion.Last edited: Jan 30, 2015 -

Hello my friends!
I've watched this forum for quite some time and in many cases it helped me a lot, so I think it's time to repay for this at least in small amount.
Personally, I've got Acer Aspire 7720ZG with CPU: T8300, RAM: 4GB and wait... GPU: GT 230M DDR3! And it works like a dream!
I've seen that some people have a problem with vBIOS for GT 230M (Toshiba MXM II version) so I upload mine which works for sure. My close friend have 5720G and I tested my 230M there, so I inform you that it also works there.
So here it is: https://mega.co.nz/#F!dUFTGI6C!6EH8bkKYumfpOLXnH83sBg
It's vBIOS from sBIOS of Toshiba A500-17X
Drivers from LaptopVideo2Go works just fine.
I hope that it will help someone in future!

I have the exact problem with adamdjmax.
Which drivers & modified inf should i use? -
Hi again. I commented here about a problem with the hd3650 in a 5920G a time ago... Well, I just returned that card because I couldn't make it work...
So, Could anyone tell me wich is the best option right now to replace the "overbaked" 8600GT? I cannot see the screen so I think it'll make things more complicated... Is there any good option? or I should throw the notebook to the trash? XD
Thank you and regards! -
Hello guys. I own an Acer 5720ZG. Its original 8400M GS graphics card broke. So I bought a new 9300M GS to replace.
After replacing everything seemed to worked fine except annoying countdown for 30 seconds just after boot.
I updated the BIOS to latest version available v.1.45 running the .exe as administrator from windows 7.
This fixed the countdown. But now when the laptop tries to boot normally into windows I get BSOD and computer shuts down.
I have tried following the forum but I haven't understood exactly what I need to do to fix my problem. Do I need to download another moded version of BIOS and update it? and is that all? No update of vBIOS needed? and which version should I download? From the link below I do not see a version for my laptop.
